Stunning... Leaves You Breathless.
16 March 2006
This is a movie of a rare sort. Do yourself a favor and don't watch any previews (I saw one preview that made it out to be a comedy). It is a harsh look at the reality, the humanity, and the thoughtlessness of so many wars we carry out in our world today. It truly left me breathless in jaw-dropping awe. It makes you see conflict, any conflict, in a whole new light. It also teaches a lesson that there is always more than one side to any story, and we must listen to all sides before putting any lives in danger. An important piece for any person of any culture of any age. There is no question in my mind that this deserves a perfect "10."

Tim Burton+ Johnny Depp= always fantastic
16 July 2005
Simply put: beautiful work by two of our world's best cinematic talents. Don't expect the "first" movie (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory...not even the same title). It is entirely different and new, and if you approach it that way, you will see it for the beauty it is. Tim Burton has a fantastic imagination and Johnny Depp is so versatile. Every movie they have ever done together is a masterpiece, and this is no exception. Supporting cast is also amazing, especially the parents in this one! This one is also a great movie if you're looking for a great escape. Try it definitely, but opt for a time when there is likely to be less talky-talky kids around (i.e. the late show).

Powerful!
26 January 2005
This movie was the most powerful one I have seen in a very long time. The acting is brilliant, and the music really helps today's people to connect to yesterday's struggle (and it really was only yesterday). Anyone who has a couple of hours to spare should see this movie. Simply brilliant. Not much more can be said. I have a new heroine and her name is Alice Paul, America's Joan of Arc. This movie is especially provoking for anyone who cares about history, politics, women's rights, or any other similar area of study. Sometimes it's amazing how real life can be better than the fiction that movies usually are. This movie gets a perfect ten from me. I'm sorry that this critique isn't more substantial, but please, watch the movie!

Perfect
18 October 2004
I consider this movie quite perfect, thought I am open to disagreements. This is probably the best French film I have EVER seen, and the most unique film I have seen in quite some time. Take it with a grain of salt. In America, we expect to have the endings of things perfectly laid out for us and happy, but then we lack the ability to use our own imaginations. This movie really lets you step back, absorb it, and figure out its meaning to yourself on a personal level. Few movies nowadays allow for such a thing. However, as I have said, I find this movie quite perfect and recommend it to anyone expecting something new in cinema. Oh, and to all people who compare it to "Amelie"- there was French film BEFORE then and there is after Amelie. Get over it, it was one movie!!!!

Did they even read the book??
6 June 2004
Warning: Spoilers
(possible spoiler) FIRE the director, FIRE the wardrobe, and DEFINITELY FIRE the screenwriter. Did they even read the book?? I read the book several times and once again before going to the movie and don't even know where to begin with all that they did wrong. They didn't even tell Harry who Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs are/ were! They screwed up so many times on this that I'm just p***ed and am expecting an apology. They better at least read the book before doing the next few! I'm appalled. They added unnecessary scenes, took out necessary scenes, trashed the book, forgot very important aspects, and included many distracting scenes that had, well, nothing to do with anything! I honestly think that this movie is only good if you aren't a true fan of the books. If you've read this one at all, don't be surprised by how much they trashed it. It was such a good base for a movie, why change it?

Can this guy get more perfect???
12 October 2002
No way can Sam Mendes be as good as this.... He has done two movies, both mind blowing (American Beauty and now Road to Perdition). I am amazed! This movie deserves quite a few Oscars- Best Actor (Hanks), Best Supporting Actor (Newman), Best Screenplay, Best Direction.... so many! Even the boy who plays Michael Sullivan Jr (I forget his name) should get a nod for his fabulous performance. This movie is 100% mind blowing. I haven't been able to stop thinking about it since I saw it. Honestly, in my opinion it is better than the Godfather when it comes to gangster films, and certainly one of my top five movies ever!
