New Faces (1954)
One of the worst films ever made
I saw this film in a movie house as a kid and remember thinking that this had to be one of the worst films that I have ever seen. The only 'bits' that I found worthwhile were the 'bits' with Ms Kit. She was remarkable and certainly like nothing that I had seen before. Recently, I found a copy of the film on VHS and bought it for fun - I wanted to see if it was as bad as I remembered. I have been unable to get beyond the first thirty minutes into the film. I can NOT believe revues on stage were ever this bad. The color too is dreadful. This is very sad since the cast included some very talented people.
I have been told, repeatedly, that I can not submit my comment since it does not contain 'at least 10 lines'. Tragically, I have nothing of value to add and so am wasting words here. Let us see if I have now managed to add enough gibberish.
Scrooge (1951)
Scrooge
I have seen all versions of 'Scrooge' and the version with Aliaster Sim is without doubt the best. Alister Sim was a wonderful actor and made many films where he was always good. I recommend 'Laughter in Paradise', 'The Green Man' and 'Dieu et Mon Droit' with Peter O'Toole. He was a great comedian but could also play more serious roles (see his excellent performance in 'An Inspector Calls'). Whenever I read 'A Christmas Carol', I can not think of anyone else playing the role. It is a wonderful movie, and Christmas would not be Christmas for me, without watching it. Although the movie is filled with 'errors' and 'goofs', it does not matter as it always appears as a delight in its simplicity and universal message. I recommend that anyone and everyone should try to increase their joy and pleasure at Christmas by sitting back and watching it.
