Hilarious
31 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It is so bad that it's actually good kind of movie.

Starting off with a interstellar civilization where settlers still live in medieval huts. A woman cultivates her land with a help of, no joke, a damn alien horse.

Characters with absolutely ridiculous accents live in a village with a 300 population top. But for some reason it gets the attention of a whole intergalactic empire!! Why in the world would an empire with gigantic space ships care for this stupid tiny town and its grain.

Editing is awful too. It's unbelievable how such an expensive movie can have editing worse than a student's short.

Actors are as convincing as their accents.

But I gotta give it to them, it was a good laugh.

Moscow doesn't give a damn
4 April 2023
This is a sad film. The characters screw and disrespect each other. It shows the worst traits of "city people" such as lies, greed, selfishness, abuse, harassment, and sexism. I think(or hope rather) that the idea of the authors was to depict a spectre of personalities with different qualities, beliefs and to what kind of future they lead. What concerns me the most it's the lack of tact when it comes balance between comedy and drama. The truly dismal moments are shown in a so nonchalant way with a joke following shortly. That just doesn't work for me.

Although the film contains a lot of funny scenes, portrayal of soviet life is not bad, I cannot like this movie.

Emotion manipulation
16 March 2023
This movie so blatantly wants to make you cry. It uses all the available drama tropes out there. So manipulative and it doesn't hide this, it's really on the surface.

But since I have some empathy in me, the movie has succeeded. The experience of watching it left me heartbroken. It's full of raw emotion, super expressive and I must say it is very much an "acting-first" kind of film. The camera makes a lot of close ups, really allowing every actor get to the most of their performance. Acting was sublime, surprisingly even on behalf of the 20 year old Sadie Sink. Her performance might have felt a bit awkward just in a few scenes. However, she had several great moments of expressing the most intimate feelings, which she did appropriately subtle. Well done. Special attention to final climax scene of the movie. The dialogue, acting and light altogether made a beautiful piece of cinematography. The music masterfully underlines the mood in all of the scenes, although some might find it a bit melodramatic. Also would like to add: the "make up" for Brendon Fraser is done very well.

Quite bad
28 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The movie goes like this "Two childhood friends always helped each other through everything, and the girl begins to believe that the boy likes her but he only likes her beauty. When they grow up, she falls for another guy leaving her friend confused and suicidal." That's the premise if you're interested. Better skip to the next part

I liked the dancing scene where everyone is just having fun. I imagine my parents' youth like this. But that's about it. Terrible editing, toxic characters and their relationships. The film tries to present it like it's "cute". Seen it two times, two times too many.

Problematic story and gameplay
15 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Elizabeth has lost her mind completely I didn't get why she kills the only version of Booker who didn't become Comstock in the original. I don't understand why she does the same here. My guess would be that throughout the game she slowly descends into madness. It is sad but fascinating at the same time to observe this young, promising woman become a maniac.

That makes Elizabeth an intersting character but not a relatable one. So when I had to play for her I lacked any motivation to get her through the hurdle. And boy, I needed it. Gameplay isn't fun anymore, lads. Its stealth now where you duck, cover and hope for an innattentive AI, cause if you're spotted you're dead. Even 3 headshots from a revolver won't kill a regular enemy. When you die you start all over again from the begining of a location with enemies respawned while you watch a cutscene. No saves no nothin.

Uncomfortable gameplay only works with a good reason to fight for. Which there ain't.

Exquisite addition to an already fantastic story
15 December 2022
Beautiful DLC Burial at Sea Part 1 represents the best content in Bioshock franchise.

The story unfolds in Rapture 1958, at the peak of its glory. You play as a Bioshock dimension Booker who recieves an business offer from a mysterious femme fatal. As we all know such stories never end well.

We're in for a ride through gorgious Rapture with its elegent inhabitants but also places buried much deeper in the abyss. Places much darker and sinister.

Top notch artdesign of the locations combined with an amazing soundtrack and special effects deliver an absolutely unique atmosphere and levels. Even greater then in the main games, with an abondance of secrets and details that give a new prospective to the old events of Bioshock 1. Personally, I enjoy playing Booker. To trust someone only to be cruelly betrayed at the end, life classic.

La game c'est tres fantastique, which I cannot say about part 2 though.

Wednesday (2022– )

Below average story, bad acting, terrible characters
9 December 2022
No it isn't great, not even B category. It's your usual angsty teen flick where the characters are caricatures. Everybody possesses one personality trait that is inflated to absurdity; Wednesday always hates everything - wears all black, her roomie always loves everything- wears all white, there's an always stupid guy and an always angry bad girl etc. I cannot overemphasise just how bad is Wednesday of a main lead. She's boring and annoying, but most of all she is not interested in doing anything other then obnoxious stuff! She is always being dragged by everyone surrounding her to do at least something of importance. She does not "make" the story, it's the story who is begging her to do something interesting. The plot itself is a pile of stolen cliches and plot devices. We have a rip off from Harry Potter, previous Burton's movies and numerous Netflix teen comedy shows.

Tim Burton, what happened to you buddy? I still can recognise his familiar style but just barely. A pale echo of what he once been. Sad.

Trollzilla in Oslwood
6 December 2022
Wow, they managed to collect ALL cliches of American action film industry. It's your typical "monstro" disaster with every familiar movie trope you can imagine... but Norwegian.

The technical aspect is decent on the other hand, visuals don't look that bad. They got an ok budget, the actors do their job, but it's the screenplay that is weakest part of it. For a person who has seen at least a couple of mainstream disaster flicks watching this would be super boring, with every plot development being completely predictable. I guess you are able to enjoy the movie if you reeeally love Norway and its folklore then perhaps.

The Batman (2022)
Vengeance
26 April 2022
When I was leaving the theatre my thoughts were mostly comprised of "man, that movie was awesome and scary and cool and wow!" But after some time I collected my thoughts and here they are.

First of all the movie is awesome. It's something I can't remember seeing in superhero movies. Yes there are details that were brought from Fincher and Nolan and some others. But it feels like it has its own unique world, different from its predecessors.

The actors performance is superb.

Although the movie is supposed to be a neo noir detective, a lot of mysteries Batman uncovers not through analysing, investigating or putting up clues together but by getting exposition(talking) from characters he visits.

Overall the screenplay feels raw, and editing unfinished. Like the studio was rushing with it. There are a lot of meaningless shots that make the movie way too long.

So in conclusion despite the new vision of Batman and the DC Universe and gripping atmosphere alongside wonderful acting the movie suffers from flawed plot and editing.

Delightful but not special
4 April 2022
It was enjoyable to watch, although not as brilliant as "There will be blood" from the same director. I can't understand the meaning behind the story and don't think there is one. Feels very much like "Once upon a time in Hollywood". If you liked the aforementioned movie you will like "Licorice pizza" as well.

Low-life America
24 March 2022
A glimpse of it's like to see the world through a child's eyes. Everything is so bright and colourful, a shop might be a castle, an abandoned house can be an ancient ruin. What an amazing ability to be happy despite the circumstances.

But we as the outsiders are able to see the dire reality

Astonishing movie. What could have been a typical drama flick, turns out as a fresh, funny!, well-directed and so enjoyable to watch.

To be humane in a totalitarian state
8 March 2022
Living in the conditions of an oppressive and unjust system, people would behave differently. Some of them will use it to rise up at the expense of everyone. Some of them will break and follow rules. And some of them will oppose it.

Ultimately the movie gives you a perspective on life in socialistic Germany with an emphasis on a Stasi captain who becomes disappointed in the righteousness of the GDR and tries to save the people he was assigned to destroy.

A sad but kind story.

Black Box (2021)
Decent thriller
7 March 2022
A perfect example of what a thriller movie should be. Suspense and intrigue in almost every scene. Neat!

As a pilot myself(PPL), I can appreciate the plot very much. Despite a few plot wholes, the story gives you quite a realistic perspective of aviation industry's dark side. Well, the first two thirds of it at least. Yeah, for some reason they decided to add a second "twist" and thus they made the movie, that could have claimed "inspired by true events"(check out Netflix documentary about Boeing 737MAX), way less plausible and truthful.

In conclusion a pretty good thriller with realistic aviation details(mostly) and overly complicated ending.

Epic (2013)
Love the setting, hate the plot
5 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I got a feeling that screenwriters who were making the story had great ambitions and many ideas.

We have: 1. A teenager whose mother's just died and now she has to reunite with her father who neglected her previously 2. Protagonists' dad - a weirdo trying to prove his theory about an undiscovered society of little creatures of the woods; a whole godds 3. A whole goddam civilization of different living entities with an ongoing war 3. A defiant soldier who's part of this forest little men army and his commander who have their own drama and problems 4. A queen who.... You see where I'm going? There's enough content for a book. Obviously, 1 hour and half couldn't possibly handle so many narrative elements.

And there you have it, sloppy, incoherent with oh so many plot holes story that doesn't make much sense to me.

Good stuff: Humor is awesome, action is epic, several scenes executed surpisingly good.

"Epic" could have been a foundation for something much bigger and more... EPIC!

Boring, unimaginative and has nothing to offer
18 January 2022
Overly melodramatic movie about self concerned people. I couldn't care less about their problems and the story does not even try to capture my interest. Waste of time.

Rear Window (1954)
Oldie but goodie from Hitchcock
16 January 2022
A nice example of an old classic. Movie, made in 1954, compels with likeable and truthful characters of that time. Story takes place only in one city backyard. Despite it, Alfred Hitchcock manages to tell us stories of many people populating the house alongside with the main one. Eventually, main characters who observe others get to dwell deep into something they find suspiciously shady.

City of God (2002)

Not everyone's gonna watch it to the end
27 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"City of God" is a cruel, unfair, forsaken place, you'll find nothing holly there. It's a really far, obscure and tough world that is hard for me to comprehend. The characters are immoral and wicked.

What disturbs me the most is that the film has this light, whimsical tone. Sometimes almost "Tarantino-like". The music contributes huge part in this. It even attempts in jokes several times.

Do you really expect me to... laugh and care?! After all these atrocities they've done 30 seconds ago? What is wrong with you people?

Good stuff. It has some incredible, iconic scenes and moments like the kiss on the beach or the gun fight near the end. The movie also portrays the picture of Brazil that you won't likely see in a tourist guide, it's very authentic and inspired by real events. Though, it's probably a bit exaggerated.

All in all, you if you are a movie nerd and curious about other cultures like me, you definitely must watch it. Just prepare yourself.
