The Outsiders (2006 TV Movie)
3/10
Another Jason Bourne?- I think not
4 October 2006
Touted as being in the genre of " The Bourne Identity" (and Supremacy), this film had a lot to live up to, but failed miserably. Nigel Harman plays a former spy now running a lobster restaurant. He is seduced into bed, and wakes up chained to it. He is "kidnapped" into going on the very clichéd "one last job". The task is to steal a painting from a very secure place. The idea of this provokes thoughts of a good action thriller, but the film was almost 40 minutes in before any action took place. After 55 minutes I was getting bored, so went for a bath. My wife stuck it out till the end , and assured me that it didn't get any better. Prime time TV? Sorry but this one really did disappoint. What made it worse was the TV guide giving it an unmissable rating. If ITV do screen further episodes (as previous reviewer mentioned), then I may give it a second go, but if it was no better 15 minutes in, I would turn over without question.

The Comedians (1971–1993)
10/10
classic comedy television
3 October 2006
Born out of the working men's clubs, this quick fire stand up comedy show will always be remembered as a classic. If you didn't think a particular joke was funny, the likes of Bernard Manning, Colin Crompton, Ken Goodwin or George Roper would be next on, to deliver another.

Some people moan that the jokes were (what are now deemed to be) politically incorrect, but when the coloured comedian Charlie Williams parodies himself, that is what humour is all about, we can laugh at ourselves and at each other, as well as them laughing at us.

Now though the PC brigade seem to think everything is ageist, racist, sexist, weightist, classist, mycarisbetterthanyourcar-ist. Bring back the comedians

The Changes (1975)
9/10
People against technology? sounds intriguing, and this programme uses the theme as a storyline. One girl's quest to discover the cause.
6 June 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Almost 30 years ago, I watched the series but missed the last episode. I finally got around to watching the series again (from scratch) and wasn't disappointed. If you look through the basic "cheeseyness", and accept the fact that the programme was recorded all those years ago, you can be quickly drawn into the storyline. Basically as madness descends, people are rebelling against technology and destroy TV's cars toasters kettles etc. Schoolgirl Nicky Gore and her family leave home for safer shores but they are separated, and Nicky finds herself on a quest which will ultimately lead her to the source of the problems. If you are an eco-warrior you will find the message behind this series interesting, but you only get this message towards the end. Well worth the wait, I can recommend this, especially to anyone that is looking for something slightly different from the norm.
