The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
2 Episodes of Gorgeous Scenery and Intriguing beginnings
Every scene is dripping with beautiful scenery, attention to detail, and a full fleshed out world. I was blown away by how beautiful this show is. I can't speak much to the story, because we only have two episodes, but I'm intrigued by the beginnings of all these stories and am looking forward to seeing them all weave together. Excellent beginning. I genuinely don't understand the hate. We haven't seen the story yet, how have many people decided it's bad? You haven't seen it yet. And the complaints it's not "true" to the source material? It is as true as it can be to clearly communicate the story so far. Tolkiens lore is scattered and often inconsistent, so please chill out. It absolutely does feel like an adaption of Tolkien.
Time Freak (2018)
Terrible Time Travel and a Mediocre Story
The Good
It starts to explore unintended consequences.
Everything Else
The time travel is inconsistent and breaks it's own rules, but that's not really a big deal. Because despite the title, time travel is not the focus of the movie.
The real reason I only gave this 3 stars is because our main character never has to deal with any of the consequences of his actions. He plays god for the entire movie, constantly putting his own whims ahead of everyone else's well being. He's selfish and wildly manipulative. And when his wife finds out, she moves on and gets over it in like 30 seconds of conversation. If someone was manipulating space-time to trap me with them forever, I would have far stronger feelings to deal with. But no, this movie ignores them. So we end up getting time travel movie about unintended consequences that has terrible time travel and ignores the unintended consequences. It was fun, but nothing more. I wouldn't watch it again.
