Monday Morning (2005)
A return to simpler times
Mr. Spadaccini has had the good fortune of surrounding himself with a very talented group of friends. Up until now, I've only had the pleasure of viewing his serious, dramatic works. but the actors are all just as comfortable with comedy...in fact they excel at it! Expressing ideas in a silent movie is not as simple as one would think...you must rely on exaggerated gestures, body movement, and facial expressions. The entire cast of characters pull it off as if this were the only genre they had ever worked in. 'Monday Morning' is a fitting tribute to the great silent comedy classics of the past. You don't have to be a fan of 'silents' to enjoy this 'short'...it is a return to a time when we watched a comedy just to make us laugh and forget our troubles for a time...not to have a message forced down our throats. As always, I look forward, eagerly, to future releases by this very talented young man, and his equally talented crew!
Hatred (2006)
"...grant me the serenity..."
We live our lives full of 'what ifs'...if we should/could/would have...we can never know where the other path would have led us. In this 'sequel' to 'Unstable', Anthony is left alone to battle with his conscience over this very question. Was the final outcome really his fault? Could it have ended any differently? Was it 'Fate'? Can we change our own, or others 'Destiny'? We see a side of him that we only saw very subtle hints of in the previous film...in fact we only realize this by being made privy to his inner conflict over his own, presumed, short-comings. The viewer is left to decide for himself who is really to blame...if anyone. 'Hatred' may not be for everyone, but it is most certainly a must for anyone who has seen 'Unstable'. The story must be followed to its inevitable(?) conclusion.
Unstable (2005)
A story that needs to be told.
I am writing this, not as a professional reviewer or film buff, but as a regular person who saw a movie about regular people, so my remarks will not be as eloquent as many others. 'Unstable' is not a 'Hollywood Glitz' extravaganza, ripped from the headlines of our nations news for the purpose of sensationalism and profits...it is a story, normally buried somewhere among the classifieds, where we hide our dirty laundry. These events don't really affect many people, so why put them on the front page? But they do...they involve our friends, our neighbors, our families, our children. We think if we ignore it, it will go away...but it won't...it will get worse! 'Unstable' presents us with a realistic vision of a hate crime that happens more often than we realize, or want to, but isn't talked about. Everyone involved, from production to cast, was brilliant. The characters and situations were honest, natural, and believable. Normally I would watch escapist fare, but I was so impressed with this movie, that I can't wait to see more from Director/Writer/Actor Anthony Spadaccini...I'm sure we will be hearing and seeing a lot more from him.
