Ancient Civilizations (2017)
Finally, we are waking up to REALITY with this series.
This is for those who no longer want to be confined by rigid religious belief and mainstream academia. There is so much unknown about our past and our beginnings, and with Ancient Civilizations, some of the pieces are being put together to give us a far deeper understanding of the human mystery. With the discovery of Gobekli Tepe alone, history is being re-written. And no doubt there are many more truths to uncover as time goes by. Thanks to the intrepid investigations of those who dare to ask, the bigger picture is slowly coming into focus.
The Number 23 (2007)
Total crap.
This is the quintessential Hollywood piece of crap movie. It was such a waste of time to watch. It tied to be so deep and so enigmatic, and in so doing, it turned out to be just so overdone, so ridiculous and so bad. Just so so so bad. I can not tell you how bad this movie was.
The writing was totally unbelievable. The acting was OK.
Jim Carrey should stick to comedy. He really doesn't suit drama.
The premise of the movie is absurd.
You can take any number and make it something so..like..wow..so mystical.
Don't waste your time with it.
Donnie Darko (2001)
The bottom line.
I watched this movie after having seen many comments about how great it was. Fortunately I never read any of the spoilers. In fact, I never even read a synopsis of the plot. But, unfortunately I had great expectations for this film. Saddly, the movie did not live up to them. Most of the reviewers who gave this 5 or less stars I generally agree with on their comments.
The bottom line is this.
*Spoiler coming*.
This is about a teen who has psychological problems. There's also a half-baked, pseudo-science fiction theme about time travel here. The night that the jet engine falls on the Darko house, we are led to believe that Donnie gets out of bed to follow a voice which turns out to be Frank the rabbit. From that point on the movie unfolds through the numerous events until Donnie is given a choice to pass through a wormhole back in time to before his girlfriend gets killed. He does so and ends up back in his bed the very night the engine falls on him. Well, it's quite simple to explain that everything that happens to Donnie before his death is all in his mind. The time travel is related to the fact that right before his death, his life flashes before his eyes, but it's not his past life, it's his future if he were to get up out of that bed before his fated death. He sees all these consequential events happen, lives them in his mind for a supposed 28 days. But in fact, it all happens within minutes. He decides in the end not to get out of his bed knowing the fate that awaits him, and he is free from himself. The movie is a whole illusion playing out inside Donnie's mind.
Invisible Waves (2006)
Comparison to Last Life in the Universe
I just want to add the interesting parallels to Pan-Ek's film "Last Life in the Universe." Most of these are probably quite obvious, and I suspect there are more subtle comparisons.
1) The lead character is or was involved with a Yakuza gang. 2) The similarity of the lead character's name Kyoji to Kenji (Last Life). 3) The name Noi and Nid used in both films 4) The reference to Lizard. 5) The atmosphere and music very similar. 6) The theme of death.
This is the type of film that would require a deeper analysis to uncover its finer details and meanings. I would agree that overall, it's not as strong a film as Last Life in the Universe. However, the mood created on the ship to Phuket was in itself, masterful, surreal, other-worldly. In fact, at one point I had thought that Kyoji had already entered hell, and had departed this world.
