9-1-1: Capsized (2024)
The best story arc this show has done!
The season 7 opening cruise ship disaster trilogy is by far my favorite story arc this series has done. It features so many of my personal favorite tropes, and the plot takes so many drastic and exciting turns! Setting it on a cruise ship already makes me love it, but then the first twist is a murder mystery! Followed by a pirate attack, Titanic-style sinking, and then the ship goes full on Poseidon Adventure upside-down. I loved the way this story kept building, and that while the stakes got greater and greater, the scope became narrower, focusing on just a small cast of characters as opposed to the whole ship from earlier. Then when the 118, an LAFD crew, charters a helicopter out into the ocean along the Mexican border DURING A HURRICANE to look for this cruise ship, it's so laughingly unbelievable, but it's so camp and delightfully ridiculous that I had no problem suspending my disbelief! I also love that they brought back Lola and Norman, a couple from a 911 call back in season 2! And they went from being a one-off appearance to having major roles for a 3-episode arc! That must have been so exciting for the actors!! And what a script to come back for! Truly, I believe this is the best the show has ever been, and it leaves me optimistic for the rest of season 7!

Good intentions, but lack of plausibility
I loved that the show decided to have an episode for deaf representation. I can appreciate the significance of that, And I don't mind subtitles- on the contrary, I ALWAYS use subtitles. However, I couldn't stand this episode.
My issue with this episode was its complete lack of plausibility. I have no problem suspending disbelief when watching a series, but the amount of forced silence in this episode pulled me completely out of the story. I kept shouting at the tv "WHY AREN'T THEY TALKING! IF THEY ARE ALONE ON A DATE TOGETHER THEY HAVE NO REASON NOT TO BE TALKING!!!" I can't believe that after bumping into someone at a wake you wouldn't even utter a "sorry" or at least an "ope." For the sake of believability they should have had at least a few short lines of dialogue peppered throughout, even if only when they weren't around the deaf man. But having no dialogue at all the whole episode was just too unrealistic. We've known these characters for several episodes now. We know their behaviors. We know they won't be in complete silence when they're walking into an elevator or trying to hide. They'd say SOMETHING.
I'm glad they made an episode with this kind of representation; however, it could have been done much better.
