Just As Charming As Ever
26 October 2023
I'll always have a soft spot for the DX version on GameBoy Color, but this is one Grezzo's better remakes of the decade - even better than Ocarina of Time 3D I would say.

Worth $60? I don't know. If you have financial problems, then no; you should wait until it's on sale. But if you're fairly well-off, then yes. Have yourself some fun!

Of course, if you're a fan of adventure/puzzle games that force you to put on your thinking cap.

You could just look up the solutions, too...

If you're a weiner.

But if you like solving puzzles on your own, this is a game for you. It also isn't that difficult (as long as you're actually paying attention). Most enemies are low-level and even the boss fights don't pose much of a threat.

This game's strength lies in its aesthetic and mood. In general, it's just a good time that leaves a smile on your face.

And Marin is easily 2nd best girl behind Midna. This isn't up for debate.

Not As Bad As People Say
17 July 2023
I had heard everyone call this a steaming pile of garbage, so I did avoid it. However, my copy of the original stopped working halfway through; and I wasn't about to pay a fortune for another one in better condition, so I buckled down.

And... it's literally the same game.

Yes, there's a new cast for no good reason, there's barely any fog, and the text font is comic sans.

But this really didn't ruin the game for me. Would I prefer the Enhanced Edition? Yes, I believe so; but for now, this isn't a bad way to go.

Besides, the old cast is included in certain copies, so there's that. And you could just not pay attention to the text font and the graphics so much.

Don't be so over dramatic, you guys.

Flubber (1997)

As Messy As The Professor's Work (Light Spoilers)
2 January 2023
As much as I love Robin Williams, this is not one of his roles I look back fondly on.

Flubber is a disappointment in terms of characterization and narrative writing. The movie wants you think Williams' character is clueless and dorky, but in a charming way that makes you root for him. This is not the case; he is a man married to his work. Which wouldn't be a problem if he wasn't also trying to juggle a love life. He doesn't deserve the mandatory love interest in this movie.

Strangely enough, it's the villain, portrayed by Christopher Mcdonald. Yes, he's the villain - or so the movie tells you - but you can tell he is truly interested in her. Robin isn't.

Robin's character says he loves her, but this simply isn't true. He is not giving her his full attention because his work clearly comes first. And even at the end of the movie, he has not changed. And yet, it's presented as a good ending.

That isn't all. There's also a subplot introduced that hardly has any effect on the main story or the characters. It's glossed over as if it doesn't matter (because it doesn't).

I wouldn't recommend this even for die-hard Williams fans. But if you do end up liking it (somehow?), then feel free, I guess. You can enjoy it for me.

Obi-Wan Has Failed Again
23 June 2022
The idea of following Obi-Wan for a little before the original film takes place sounds awesome. But this is Disney, so of course they ruined it.

So far, this show has just been boring, nonsensical, and awkward. First of all, Obi-Wan is barely in it. You know, the guy this series is named after? Instead, we see more of this new character, Reeva, being grumpy, a ten-year old Leia being silly, and nostalgia bait that does not work.

Other characters do things that inconsistent or stupid, the story tries to be clever but it just ends up feeling conveluted, and the acting is really off (except for Ewan McGregor. He is literally the only one trying).

Even if the last episode was golden, it wouldn't matter, because the five epidoes leading up to it have been nothing but pure garbage. 1/6 counts as a fail, so Disney has failed... AGAIN.

I actually had hopes for this series. That'll teach me to have hope next time. Never have hope again, people. Hope is frail.

Joseph: King of Dreams (2000 Video)
6/10
An Underwhelming Prequel
17 March 2022
Following in the footsteps of a magnificently animated opera, King of Dreams unfortunately falls rather short of it's older brother. I don't think this movie is bad per say, but considering Prince of Egypt came first, it doesn't exactly leave a good taste in your mouth.

While the animation is still good, especially for a direct to DVD movie, it isn't as astonishing or purposeful. I don't know if it's the framing or the art style, but the world itself just feels small.

Another thing that pales in comparison are the songs. The songs in Prince of Egypt were so epic and they felt very important. These songs just kind of tell you what's going on when you could've been shown instead or the characters could've talked about it normally. There is still competence on display; nobody really sings poorly and the music is a nice compliment, but they all just end up leaving your mind shortly after they're over.

As for accuracy - and for those who care about that - it does get the story down pretty well. It isn't completely one-to-one, but it's still quite accurate.

I didn't want this to be just a comparison to Prince of Egypt, but it was clearly difficult to avoid that. But comparisons are fun, too. Even without the comparison, King of Dreams isn't exactly as special as Joseph. It's more like the other sons of Jacob, actually: you don't hate it, but you don't really coddle it, either like you would a beloved child. Good thing it's just a movie then, huh?

My Girl (1991)

Real

Despite being a guy, I find this movie to be a very accurate depiction of an 11-year old girl and the way she would deal with everything surrounding her. Granted, Vada is played by a girl who's 11 anyway, but remember, her dialogue was written by an adult. And speaking of kids, they do a great job! Everyone in this movie is very natural in their performance. I guess you could say there's not really a story per say, it's more of a character study than that. And it doesn't take too long for the characters to receive more development. It's just a good drama all around.

Spider-Man (2018 Video Game)

The Definitive Spider-Man
16 November 2019
I wouldn't even call this a game, it feels like an interactive movie. And that's why it works so well. As it's always said, anyone can be Spider-Man and now that's even truer than ever. YOU are Peter Parker/Spider-Man since you control him, and it's pretty fun to do so. Obviously, swinging around and fighting criminals is definitely a win, there are times where you play as Peter and even MJ and Miles Morales. Of course, the missions involving MJ aren't as good as when you're playing as Peter or Miles, but I wouldn't say they're bad. The graphics are also pretty spectacular. There is one moment where you can look at a photograph, and it's obvious that one of the people in it has had their face worked on. And there's this moment where Peter is surprised that someone knows something even though there was a previous scene where that was obvious. But that's it; small things that stand out but don't actually compromise your enjoyment.

Dark Souls (2011 Video Game)

Hard as balls, but very intriguing
22 September 2019
Interestingly enough, people will actually tell you this game isn't hard. That is a lie. Sure, all you have to do is dodge at the right moment, but guess what? That's hard to do. But even with the high difficulty, I can't help but enjoy this game a lot. As said above, the game as a whole has a lot of intrigue. The story, characters, items, all the enemies you fight, and all of the areas you visit have mystery surrounding them. And of course, while hard, the boss fights can be very entertaining. Especially when you take in their appearances. From Software really did a great job. The graphics are also still very pleasing, even today. The game came out the same year as Skyrim, and yet, it looks better. Gameplay is pretty good. The controls are easy to understand. And it has plenty of hours of gameplay. But seriously, this game will drive you crazy. Stress balls are advised.

Second Best Anime
20 August 2019
I highly recommend this to everyone who's even remotely interested in anime. The story is interesting, the characters are well-rounded, the animation is great, and the music is awesome; it's quite violent and bloody, too, so if that's not your mug of coffee, don't watch it. The sub is excellent while in dub, it's still good - in my opinion - , but season four will take some getting used to, especially if you're used to sub.
