Jagten (2012)
It's 2020 and this film still lives in my head rent free!
Jokes aside, this is a brilliant depiction of a man falsely accused of a horrific crime. Never have I felt so sorry for a character in any film I think I've ever watched. I initially watched this when it first hit cinemas' in 2012 and remember leaving feeling so sad and weary of the possibility of something like this genuinely happening. I decided to rewatch when I seen it on Amazon Prime and my memory did not lie to me. This is the first film I chose to review on IMBD for a reason.
Mads Mikkelsen steals the show here, and thank goodness he does because he is in about 98% of the screen time. If he didn't portray his role to perfection then this film would crumble. The score is beautiful and massive credit to Thomas Vinterberg who never disappoints as director.
This is a dark, realistic story that some people may find to harsh to view and maybe the fact it is a foreign film with subtitles puts some people off because I have never heard anyone talk about this film.
I give it a 9/10 and not a perfect score because I feel the last 10-15 are slightly rushed. The film jumps a year ahead with everything seemingly back to normal with his relationships and mental health after such a horrible demise. We can't help but smile at his son's birthday and everyone accepting Lucas back into their lives and then suddenly somebody tries to kill him on a hunting trip... I get the message here, something like this can never leave you and no matter how much you try there will always be people who don't believe you. I just wish that we got to see more of his social group accepting him back and their apologetic demeanour when they found out he was innocent all this time.
Anyway, I am rambling on but apart from the ending feeling a little rushed this is a perfect film that stays with you for a long time and really makes you think about how easy your life can fall apart by one simple lie.
Fear the Walking Dead: The Key (2020)
Fear is back!
It's great to see this show return to its glory days liking that of season three. Each episode so far in season six has been nothing short of phenomenal; a powerful comeback after the lacklustre seasons' four and five. My favourite one so far, this has it all... tension, horror, suspense, mystery and best of all great character dialogue! The cinematography and score in this episode as well has to be noted, making an emotionless robot like me almost shed a tear.
If you stopped watching this show (I don't blame you) then now is he time to jump back in. With the main show coming into its final season, and the World Beyond so far stumbling to the finish line, Fear TWD is stepping up to be the rightful heir to the throne.
