You Write the Songs (1986)
Precursor of today's hits
I watched the original shows in the early morning, after getting home from work about 1 am. We had no cable TV. I had to turn the dial to a nearby city's station, which made the picture a bit fuzzy but the sound was good.
I remember Sam Harris singing the same song for several weeks, as it beat the others on the previous show. One song had vivid, memorable imagery; perhaps that's why I wasn't surprised when I heard, what I thought was the same song, in an animated movie, a couple of years later. I was sure the Disney corporation had cleverly purchased the winning song, "A Whole New World" for their movie, "Aladdin".
There were other songs, from that TV show, that I thought I recognized, as they showed up on the radio, TV, or films in later years. I was disappointed that the show didn't last longer. There were many talented writers submitting their music. The regular vocalists didn't hurt, either 😊.
