Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022)
Has everything. It's funny, it's depressing, it is an original mind bend
I did not have the highest expectations going in, but I left thinking it was the best movie I had seen in quite awhile. There were times when I couldn't stop laughing, truly. There were times when it made me think about the depressing aspects of life. It had bold moments including about a 2 minute bit in the middle that can only be described as incredibly risky, but I thought it worked. With all of the multiverse movies out now, it managed to be an original premise. I will be recommending this movie to everyone and I suggest you give it a watch too.
Doom Patrol: Ezekiel Patrol (2019)
Ratatushi
There is only 1 word to describe the finale, and that is Ratatushi. The series thrives on the weird, plots that don't entirely make sense, and then breaking the 4th wall to poke fun at the weird and plots that don't make sense. I think it could have been better, especially coming off a strong penultimate episode, but it is a show that embraces it, and it is on full display in the season one finale.
PS- I will forever be emotionally scared from Ratatushi 🐀
Lucifer: Super Bad Boyfriend (2019)
Deep, complex episode
I am writing this from 2020, in the post-George Floyd era, and it really strikes home with everything going on today. Besides the deep racial issues, a lot of build up to the end of the season, so even without that it is still pretty decent. Most of my favorite moments in the entire show were the Lucifer Montages, the "Don't want to fall asleep," the singing one,, and this one is great.
Lucifer: Boo Normal (2018)
Underrated Episode
Let's face it, it really sucks how out of place this episode is. One of those gaffes by the producers where one episode is not coherent with the time line, but after you get past that (albeit it takes some frustration) I love diving into Ella's life a bit. I put Aimee Garcia's performance in the entire series as maybe 3rd overall after Tom Ellis (Lucifer) and Lesley-Ann Brandt (Maze). Half the time, she is the comic relief in an already decently funny show, but she is completely different then any other character. All of their reveals that Ella has actually led quite a life despite her sunny disposition really makes her one of the better characters. Taking 1 episode to explore her more, and then connecting her to Lucifer through Azreal is great. I did not see the "Azreal" connection until it was explained, and then there is Azreal herself who, much like Ella, is kinda fun, totally awkward and the perfect Ella compliment, but she is the Grim Reaper. The angel of death is basically a high school slightly goth outcast... love it. I wish this was more in line with the series rather than a time line issue, but even still, I love this episode, top 5 in the series for me
