New Amsterdam: How Can I Help? (2023)
WOW, What a final send off to a really smart show!
Threw me at first, but when it is gathering steam, it really starts to come together and make total sense. This show also ends up going out as it came in, turning the hospital procedural on its head as it has been doing throughout the five year run! We also get the back story on four characters and there wasn't really a lot of surprises on what they put into each of them. We know this because we have seen them each and every time act and behave the same as they did in their origin story! But the real thing for us was how the show started and ended with one person's love and wonder for a calling and the journey to make it better than when they found it.
Avengers: Infinity War (2018)
Wow
All the groundwork of the MCU previous films make this a great centerpiece with all the key elements of storytelling brought into play.
Star Trek Beyond (2016)
Outstanding Movie
Great pick for both story and director. JJ entrusted the right person to keep the franchise moving along at warp speed and even the most fanatical Trekie will be hard put to find fault. Not only did they advance this story time line, but they stayed true to Gene's vision! The weave of old and new, scientific and pop culture, interpersonal relations and individual motivations are all of what made the original Star Trek grab the public's attention. Acting was spot on, everyone once again prove the profession by transporting the audience into that world. The tribute to both Leonard and Anton was appreciated and example of the class act from the franchise. Happy 50th Birthday Star Trek, Live Long and Prosper !!!
Medicine Man (1992)
Still a worthwhile use of time
We loved this movie when it came out, have seen it many times over the years, and re-watched it again yesterday over 22 years later. It still holds up as a really good film. Sean brings all his wit, charm, and pragmatism honed over his career, while Lorraine has her NY attitude and the right moxie for the role she is playing. While Sean can correctly portray any job, Lorraine's acting was really spot on to convey both the academic and cultural differences of her role. The actual scenes among the trees and canopies were some of the best photography work in a jungle, predating and helping build interest in the huge fad of zip lines that have since flourished. The story itself is about discovery and redemption, differences in cultures, and how they interact. The soundtrack was really unique for its time, easily identified for the South American influences, and is still one of the best to listen to independent of the movie.
Tomorrowland (2015)
Great visuals, love the premise, and the acting.
Really don't understand why some took this film apart, but obviously the grand visuals and exciting camera angles were wasted. The story was simple, one that shows how a young woman's hope, creativity, & imagination can be part of any solution. People get too stuck on the literal and forget it is a movie. It isn't supposed to cure cancer or create world peace, just entertain and maybe get people to think about the future. When one remembers that going into a movie, than sit back and appreciate the efforts of crew. Acting was very well done by all; artwork, graphics, scenes, and lighting were spot on; music kept things moving along; the story flowed from start to finish, had humor, serious, sadness, heart, love, shame, pride, intelligence, and clearly ended on a good note. It is a Disney film, they aren't in the market to make downer movies, but show humanity struggle and succeed.
Whitechapel: Episode #3.2 (2012)
! Wrong Title for this Episode
Who ever created this entry under this title is wrong in that this is not story two of season three for Whitechapel. It clearly states on the BBC website that they will have three (3) two-hour (2-hr) stories for this season. Story one (1) involves the data contained in this write-up and the original entry for itself. In other words, they are duplex episodes. Story two (2) has yet to be broadcast, and the details aren't readily available to date.
That said, this second-part of story one is great and further develops the characters and storyline of both the Whitechapel police force and the utilization of multiple criminology techniques to help solve the crimes.
The Da Vinci Code (2006)
Pretty good
Considering that they were working with a really wordy book, they all did a really good job of telling the story.
I didn't like the fact that Tom B was taken out of LOTR, but as in that case and this, some details need to be put aside.
If they went the whole hog in detail, than only a few would see the movie and another like it would not get made. Of course, anyone who wants to use a camcorder, can now go on a tour of the sites and create a web version on their own dime, but i think they did a fine job as it is.
Can't wait to see the DVD version and hope there was a lot of extra film to be put back in....
