Hotel Artemis (2018)
Everything But A Refined Story
Great acting. Great directing. Great premise. But the story fell flat. The protagonist is not so much the winner as the survivor. Or perhaps they meant for an ensemble, in which case they had too many lead characters and not enough time to develop them.
Castles in the Sky (2014)
An Great Piece of History
Eddie Izzard seemed like a curios choice, at first, but he does a terrific job in this movie. It proves to be a great lesson in the importance of achievements from the farthest corners of Britain during WWII.
The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind (2019)
Beautiful Film, Amazing Story
Amazing that something so fundamental can be taken for granted under even the most extraordinary of circumstances. Still, the story could have been botched by a lesser cast and crew. Not so, here.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Proper Silliness
Not your normal "the butler did it" mystery. What Sandler and Aniston lack in romantic chemistry, they make up in veteran comedic chops.
Project Power (2020)
The Actors Are Great
It was a little hard to get into the movie, even through everything about it should have worked.
Infinity Chamber (2016)
Nicely Done.
I think it was unnecessarily transparent at the end, but otherwise a great movie.
Bright (2017)
A proper romp.
The dialogue overcomes the transparent message and delivers a fun movie.
Cosmos (2019)
A Few Too Many Mistakes
This movie could have been 15-20 minutes shorter and exponentially better for it. It had some dumb mistakes that could have been easily left on the cutting room floor without changing the story. Aside from the poor pacing, it's a great idea and a great story.
IO (2019)
Much Better Than Its Aggregate Score
I think this movie is suffering from its departures from the almighty formula. It's beautifully filmed, directed, and acted. The script is not transparent, as most formula movies, so you don't get the luxury of letting it wash over you.
