The writing for the Mandarin dialogues in this show is pretty good
13 June 2023
Born in China, working in the US, fluent in Mandarin. And i gotta say coming into this show i was very skeptical about whether they could tell the myth of Chinese gods well, and whether they could nail the mandarin dialogues. They did a pretty decent job. They even wrote some of the dialogues among the gods in ancient Chinese grammar (even i cant write those after studying ancient Chinese as a mandatory for 12 years from elementary to high school).

They changed Sun Wukong's origin story a bit. In Chinese myths, Wukong made a huge mess at the peach party in heaven, stole a bunch of peaches, and was punished by the Buddha by being buried under the Five-Finger Mountain for 500 yrs. He went on a quest to India for the Sutra after he got out, Eventually he was acknoledged as a god after taking on 81 obstacles along the way to India and got the Sutra.

Anyway, I am glad the story still took a nod to the old tale, with all the gods' names and story settings.

And the actors portrait of a shy american born chinse and a fresh off the boat native taiwanese, so relatable. They really nailed the nuances, well translating the thoughts i went through, looking up to white ppl, desperately trying to fit in, thinking my niches are too nerdy to be shared, the different mind sets and culture and etiquette...

I love this so much
3 October 2022
Why is everyone hating on this sequel omg i love this one more than the original. I somehow got all the silly jokes unlike the other reviews saying they are bland. And i love that they brought in modern takes in this, the drag queens, the modern technologies, the sprinkles of young teenager high school drama arch, and the sisterhood among the witches. I loved it all!

"My memory isn't going anywhere"
3 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's a small film. But it's full of little moments that makes your heart warm and your eyes wet. How sensitive and kind a person he must be for Cooper to be able to write, direct and portrait such an amazing protagonist. And Dakota, I'd like to call her the rising queen of indie film.

Ahead of it's time

I think the main reason this show gets such a bad rating is because of its quintessential gen z narrative which a lot of people do not have the experience for. But it is so gen z that when i watch it i can literally see people that i know of within these characters. Teen drama has truly come a long way. So beautiful.

Rigga Morris of the century

The editing didn't even bother to tried to match the decision rupaul made. It's so obvious who they are pushing. I can't begin to describe how disappointed I am over the last two episodes. Why did they do this? Why did the production have to ruin this? Truly feel sorry for some of the queens here.

The kids in stranger things are smarter than these superpower adults
30 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
First season finished. Man, all these could have been easily avoided if everyone could just stop being assholes for just one god damn minute. Like seriously, after watching Stranger Things I realized how long we have been trained to get used to lazy writing. These adults aren't even half as smart as the kids. Every time something new is revealed, their first reaction is always denial. At first it is understandable, but if in the 10th episode you are still doing the same thing that just becomes insult to the audiences. And all the "family secrets"? Just don't make any sense. Did the father want his kids to save the world or not? If he truly did, Pogo would have told everyone he killed himself to bring everyone back in episode one instead of hiding it to the very end. This is just lazy writing veiled under "twisted love" or "family secrets" to drag the story into 10 episodes. A lot of these tactics were used to drag the suspense longer to the point where i had to fast forward. I usually don't write negative reviews, but this one UGHHH. *eye roll.

Insightful representation of the common struggle in the gay community, especially Asian
3 June 2022
25 years and finally, i have a chance to see how my stories and my struggles of being an Asian gay shown in a movie as the main storyline. I cried and laughed and pondered and reflected. So many of my self-doubts and even self-loathes beautifully spoken out through the lines. What a ride to fire island! Thank you, Bowen Yang and the entire cast.

Trying to save it from the Mormons
29 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The dynamic of the show sets in a situation where a mormon detective is trying to solve a mormon related crime. During the investigation he finds himself conflicted between his belief and the violent nature of the murder. The series takes a slow-burn pace to unravel the mystery of LDS and the appalling crime that is committed by the believers. Nowadays good crime thrillers don't just rely on the intricacy about solving a case but rather focus on the element of why and where this kind of tragedy takes place like Mare of Easttown or True Detective. It's refreshing and undeserving of such low rating.

Original and bold. And it goes better and better as more episodes are released
23 September 2021
Dude you should have put the second episode to the first. That way I'm sure the rate won't be this bad. But in general I enjoyed every minute of this show. I don't understand the bad ratings here to be honest.

Treadstone (2019)

Sorry but it's just a typical usa eye candy show with a good stunt...
30 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe I got my hopes up too high. I mean it's the spinoff of Jason Bourne but I just didnt feel that during watching the show. First, there is too many loopholes in the black journalist storyline. It's like the writers are trying to convince you what they write makes sense except it doesnt. For example when the CIA went through all the trouble locating the journalist, putting a listening device in her, sending her to a RESTROOM with no other spy equippemt set on the scene (omg you guys know how important this conversation is gonna be and you let it happen in a restroom with no other ensurance???) And the conversation went as far as the TREADSTONE was heard and then the general suddenly realized that it's not safe and asked the jornalist to dispose of her device, leaving the CIA with just enough information to know the project was compromised and they surprisingly couldnt think of any plan to save the situation, just letting the talk went on and the journalist walking out free. If this were to happen in HOMELAND, I am sure Carrie Mathison is gonna do a much better job. Not to mention later what happened in Paris. Just cliched, predictable ways of pushing the story going. And the dialouge, frankly, seemed pale, just giving out basic information, you can't feel the intense. Second, I just dont think this amount of infomation takes three episodes to tell aka the plot was protracted and not going smoothly, frankly. Sometimes I could feel that there is a surprise set by the writer, but when it happened it wasn't that much surprising because I had anticipated that and it wasn't that convincing either. It's not a good show if you can just easily guess where it is going. Other than that, the show is a typical usa show with good-looking cast so at least there is something I can enjoy. Btw, the Korean scene/storyline is a little bit unreal I am an asian so I think I have a say here.
