Cyberpunk: Edgerunners (2022)
One Problem: too short
Having given up on the game despite its recent fixes, I came to this show to see if I would be motivated enough to give it shot. So here I am writing my review.
First I want to say, great show, lots going for it. Cinematography, music, voice actors (both English and Japanese) are masterfully executed. The show is also really willing to take risks by throwing some lives out the window you wouldn't expect.
The only real issue I have is that all those risks that the show takes are limited by the shortness of the series. It felt rushed a lot making you want to feel certain ways for characters but I didn't find myself doing that. I feel as though if they lengthened the show, my attachment to the characters and the characters' development would have shot this show from great to perfect.
Anyways, 8/10, I'll probably give the game a shot again.
Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey (2023)
Winnie saved my life (for real)
A week before this film I was given the news that I was suffering from extreme chronic constipation. I knew something was wrong with me before but the news hit me like a rock to the groin. I tried pulling, pushing, exfoliating. I even went to a chiropractor. As a final resort I messaged an old homeschool family of mine to see if they had any essential oils that could resolve the issue. To my dismay, none of these worked. I'm pretty sure the oils made it worse. Sad and alone, I gained 15 lbs. Before I had watched this film.
Friends of mine who knew but couldn't understand what I was going through asked if I would like to join them for Winne-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey. I watched the trailer, which was quite horrifying from what I saw, and was unsure if I should join my friends. I learned shortly after that it was a b-movie, and so I consented. I am so glad that I did go.
As I munched on my popcorn and drank my Coke Zero sugar, wondering how how I was going to get this out later, I felt the hairs on my neck stand up. I refocused on the movie to see the horrifying images on the screen. And for the first time in three weeks, I crapped. It wasn't like a small crap or even a normal crap, but like the crap-god that sits on the crap-throne kind of crap. When I had finally realized what had happened, I noticed that it wasn't the gore even the faces of the deformed animals, it was, in fact the faces of British women.
Knowing that the smell was going to be pungent, I went home early, for the sake of my friends who sat near me. So unfortunately, I wasn't able to finish the movie, but it deserves a rewatch from me, not out of enjoyment necessarily, although that is there, but out of respect. For Winnie the pooh saved my life.
The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008)
I need a season 3
With cute humor, interesting plots, and not too squishy romance, this Spider-Man adaptation is truly I ever wished for. Very simple and playful, but fun and exciting. The music is great, especially the intro. It's unfortunate that in order to get more money the show had to be cancelled as I was looking forward to at least some culmination for the character arcs. With the new spider verse movie coming, I decided to binge this show. I now realize I should have savored it while it lasted.
To anyone debating on starting this show, just do it. It's short and enticing, and hopefully will push you to support a further story if it is ever possible.
Kôdo Giasu: Hangyaku no Rurûshu (2006)
Everything that I ever wanted
When I was a child, I always marveled over the idea of a main character being a villain. As have watched a few movies and shows that perform this duty, but none so well as Code Geass, especially in season 2. While Lelouch was not totally villainous, his actions were quite evil at times
Secondly, I wanted a main character to die for the sake of others. This fulfilled that duty almost perfectly. I read Attack on Titan which had a similar ending. Though what Hajime Isayama did not execute or executed poorly, Code Geass did so almost without flaw.
In short, if you're looking for a show with a villain as the main character but a heroic ending that is edifying and worth its while, Code Geass is where it is at!
Shingeki no Kyojin (2013)
Beauty in the carnage
I never watched anime before this show. In fact, the only reason I did watch it was because many of my friends who are also not big anime fans were talking about it all the time. And let me tell you it is fantastic
Some would describe the show niche and unoriginal, and though the first season certainly polls towards that, the second, third, and fourth season all keep you on your toes. So if the unoriginality of it all is why you aren't watching it, just try to get through the first season.
The writers decided to not pull any punches in terms of who dies and how the story ends, which just all the more pushes storyline that war will always continue, so we must fight that urge for war and find the boring and beautiful things in our lives that are worth living for.
