Wish (2023)
Goo but not great
I saw a lot of bad reviews before I saw it, so I didn't have high expectations to start. The animation is beautiful, the variety of characters is great and it really does stick to a Disney style. Most of the songs I didn't like, only two are good. The story itself was good, but I feel like they could have done a bit more with it. My kids like it, and they are definitely part of the target audience. There were definitely little Disney Easter eggs all throughout the film, honouring their 100th year, so that is fun to try and find them all. It's definitely not one of my favourite Disney movies, but it's still pretty good.
Leo (2023)
Great movie
I have been around since the start of Adam Sandlers career, SNL, the profane talking goat, all the way through Billy Madison to the water boy, Zohan, and now right up to Leo. This is by far one of my favourite movies, and my kids love it. It's funny, lighthearted and the musical aspect of it just adds to the comedy factor for me. Teaching kids to find a safe person to talk about their problems and fears is as good a message as ever for a kids movie. The songs are fun and catchy, the banter between Leo and Squirtle is giggle inducing and the facial expressions of Leo have made me fall in love with an animated lizard.
Willow (2022)
Really enjoyed!
I'm hooked, I definitely can't wait for another season. There are a lot of people who have mentioned that it is a bit lame, but for me, that is what I like the most! The movie was sort of hokey too, so I found it fitting the series has the same light hearted goofiness mixed in with the action and adventure. Being based entirely in fantasy, with amazing costumes, unique characters, a diverse cast, and the goofy banter between the characters, while sometimes corny, is what sets it apart from the more serious, dark and broody adventure types of stories. Great series based off of a great movie, I loved it.
Marmaduke (2022)
So bad
When I found out this was made in 2022 I was astonished. The animation is so bad. The acting is also so bad. Overall awful movie. I was excited at first as I read Marmaduke comics as a kid and it was very disappointing.
The Mitchells vs the Machines (2021)
Best movie I've watched in awhile
It exceeded my expectations. It was funny and done in a unique way that made it quirky but highly entertaining. Gave me some good laughs.
Outlander (2014)
Love it and hate it
It's a great story, but I find the acting is inconsistent at times. Sometimes it's super corny and at others it's really good and compelling. The character of Claire gets annoying very quickly, especially in certain episodes when she takes her healing skills too far, using them unnecessarily, wasting time and supplies, and risking other people's lives in order to show how great of a doctor she is. (Eg: season three, episode seven and season four episode two) And she always seems to butt her nose in where it doesn't belong. (Season two, episode one) The first season is my most favourite so far, as is the first book. I have read half way through book six, and there were things in the books that I had been looking forward to seeing adapted into the show, however, when they were, I was pretty disappointed. Over all it's still a pretty good watch if you can tune out some of the drivel.
Blippi (2014)
Great show!
I get that he may not be everyone's cup of tea, but his energy is great for a kids show. Reading some of the negative reviews that said this show is not educational, I would have to disagree. He teaches kids about all kinds of different things rather than just letters, numbers etc. He shows kids what's in the world around them, where food comes from, different vehicles and their uses as well as colours and numbers and everything in between. His silly energy matches that of the kids his show is aimed at, kids get excited about things and so does he, which is what can really make learning fun for them. And some of his adventures are really neat, like learning about fire rescue helicopters, most kids would never get that advantage in real life, so it introduces kids to a huge variety of interesting things that this world has to offer. After watching cartoon pigs with a whiny voice and mind numbing plot line, I would pick Blippi any day.
