Atlantic Rim (2013)
It's not as bad you you might think
Here is the low down... being a low budget movie, costs had to be cut so in essence you only get 2 monsters in this movie and 3 robots, each piloted by a person.
Monster #1 looks like a giant seahorse with arms.
Monster #2 looks like... "I have no idea" with hog tusks A couple of interesting looking women... stereotypical characters... like the 2nd in Command being obsessed with Nukes.
A woman running from monster and of course the "patented" fall.
The Admiral (Mine Owner from Defiance TV Show) getting shot in the arm... then wound heals and no blood on uniform (you'll see at the end) Well, I did watch the entire movie and it was OK... the special effects aren't too bad.. like a couple of notches above a typical SyFy movie.. so if you have nothing else to do this would make a great movie to watch... especially with some friends.
Wyatt Earp's Revenge (2012)
A Missed Opportunity for Kilmer - Should have revised Doc Holiday Character Instead
When I first saw that Val Kilmer was in this... my first thought was maybe this was a sequel to the awesome Tombstone movie. This has nothing to do with the movie. I thought that was a big mistake because they could have created a connection to that movie... Instead of having Kilmer play an older Earl, he could have revised his role as Doc Holiday instead... In Tombstone, Doc is seen bedridden at the end... They could have had a reporter visit him at the hospital and have Doc talk about his younger days as a dentist and how he became a gunslinger. Now that would have been a great movie ... and it would have work great... even have Russel, Paxton and Elliot make cameo appearances... assuming they didn't ask for too much money to appear.
This movie... was OK. It starred the bad guy from the Resident Evil movie (the boss with the sunglasses).. Kilmer wasn't in any of the actual action part of the movie... there were just flashbacks to him narrating the story... but the other guy was the actual star, not Kilmer.
As a western movie, it was OK.. better than some other ones I've seen. Low budget, but it's not like you're going to expect hi-tech gadgets displayed by cowbows, right? If you're looking for something to pass the time with... then this would be great movie to watch.
The Rig (2010)
Low Budget... Yes Great Movie... Nah
I'm usually a huge fan of cheap low budget movies. And just as a previous reviewer said, I also thought the monster was a gigantic sea creature... but it turned out to be some tiny monster that looked not much larger than a little kid.
You can almost always tell the cheaper-made movies apart from how they show the monster. It's always... show an arm here... a leg there... a scene with some teeth and claws, etc. However, what makes this movie stand apart from all of that is this... You NEVER actually really clearly the monster(s) at all. I figured that maybe at the end you will be able to clearly see it... but no... it was inside a dark tunnel so you can't even really see it clearly.. unless of course you pause the movie... then you can sort of see it... kind of... hahahah Aside from being kind of predictable and the characters doing illogical things... it wasn't all that bad, I guess. I did manage to watch all of it.
