An error has ocurred. Please try again" I keep getting asked for reccos... so gonna keep adding to a list of films I absolutely love. Different kinds of films I love for very different reasons. All must watch films imho. 4 films at a time. And yes... sticking to Non-Indian films for now because I've obviously seen far more Indian films and there's just way too many to recommend. I humbly recommend you watch these films even if they are not your cup of tea because these helped me broaden my understanding of art, culture, politics and people. The list's going to be a mix of all genres... but just make sure you check up the rating to see if a film is age appropriate, if you're not an adult. "
Reviews
Brochevarevarura (2019)
Best of Telugu cinema!
Due to its fast-paced storytelling, incredible comedic timing and well-performed characters, this movie has held up for me in my countless rewatches.
Kudos to Vivek Athreya and to editor Raviteja Girijala for making one of the most well-written and the most well-paced Telugu film I have seen. Cinematography by Sai Sriram is very pleasant.
Although some think that the coincidences in this film are unrealistic, I believe (and love) that the main point of this story is to pit these totally unrelated characters against each other in extreme situations and see the magic unfold. And I honestly don't understand why it's a bad thing for a writer to play God sometimes in order to create unique situations which will only result in some damn good stories. This is the thing that makes writing stories and watching films so exciting. As long as foolish impracticality is avoided and sensible writing is maintained, it is perfectly fine to take cinematic liberties.
Being a Vivek Sagar musical is the biggest plus point of this film. Not only do I think this album is the best of Vivek Sagar till now but I also have a personal connection to it as it helped me in some hard times.
2019 had been a good year for Tollywood with so many amazing films and Brochevarevarura stands among the best that the year and even the decade had to offer.
Dial M for Murder (1954)
A crime thriller from the criminal's POV.
It is sharp, witty, suspenseful and hence a must-watch just like the other Hitchcock movies
(Btw, if he wasn't already named 'the master of suspense', after watching this movie I would have given him the name myself).
Something that I specifically loved was how after every unexplained action, the reason behind it hits you like a bullet due to the sharp dialogue that follows.
While the dialogue throughout the movie is very engaging, the climax alone is on the next level of gripping.
Also he makes his cameo in an unexpected way at an unsuspecting point. You just end up loving him
Salinui chueok (2003)
A murder mystery of the familiar crime genre but with an unfamiliar ending.
It tells us the story behind the first ever serial murders in the history of Korea. It does so in a very engaging way with induced portions of social satire and comedy.
Even though it is Bong Joon-ho's second film only as a director, the brilliance of his screenplay and direction can be seen very clearly in the utmost realistic approach that the movie takes.
The best thing to talk about would be the performances. The realism in the movie and the desperation of the main characters was portrayed successfully by the brilliant cast, especially Song kang-ho and his incredible performance.
Cinematography is actually quite decent. The musical score elevated few already suspenseful scenes up another notch and reminded me of the scores in Alfred Hitchcock movies.
Positives : Bong Joon-ho, Song Kang-ho, Music, Cinematography.
Negatives : The ending may not feel satisfactory for certain audience and will leave you longing for more.
