An FK film always had good production values. Yalgaar is no exception. S M Anwar's cinematography is first rate. The colour are beautiful. Channi Singh:s music is a good extension of Aap jaisa koi from Qurbani. Manisha looks gorgeous. Feroz and Sanjay Dutt both have very good screen presence. However FK has a very good dialogue delivery and Dutt has a very bad one. Kamlesh Pande's dialogue are good but the screenplay drags the film.
An opportunity wasted.

Light hearted English romance

The bacground score, the treatment of the story give you an enjoyable feeling of watching an English romance. Only except you are not. The writing is very good. The shooting is enjoyable. The music lifts up the movie. A must watch.

Very well made movie
20 September 2020
This is a three hour long light hearted story of three brothers. The film has a good storyline and is not a collection of comic situations. This has made the movie last these 60 years. The director stcks to the screenplay, the actors adhere to their director. The music lifts the movie
A must watch.

Great movie making
20 September 2020
The basic instincts of directors come to the fore when they make a movie. Guru Dutt is an observer of life and never resorts to melodrama even in his tragedies. Gulzar is a mischievous person and this comes out in Anand, Chupke Chupke where he wrote dialogues or in the tragic Namkeen where he directed.
Vijay Anand has a trained upbringing in terms of directorship when he saw and observed Chetan Anand at work.
Here, he has not written the film but as a director his stamp is there in each frame of the film. He is a director by instincts, and a very good one. Apart from his writing and shooting and editing skills, where too he is unmatched.

Father son duel
20 September 2020
Strained father son relation ship depiction is a very difficult task and the work demands imaginative and sensitive writing. Sadly tthe writing in his film does not rise to the demand. Salim Javed could have done a lot better in the sketching of the father son characters.
Dilipkumar impresses more than Amitabh in terms of character depiction.
Ramesh Sippy is one hell of a director who in this film, and later too in his career, has been let down by his writers.

Beautiful
19 September 2020
A very stretched film, still makes compulsive watching. Beautiful songs, beautiful cinematography and very beautiful colours. And of course, the beautiful Vyjayantimala. With only three principal characters moving on screen, the director in Raj Kapoor still manages to avoid boredom with amazing skill.
Hats off to him.

FK's best directorial effort
19 September 2020
A truly glamourous film. Unbeatable cinematography by Veteran Kamal Bose. Written in the true masala film style. Feroz Khan has a very good screen presence and very good dialogue delivery. Dimple looks just great. The music fits the glamour. A widescreen bonanza.

A great period film
6 September 2020
The period painted by the director, art director and the cinematographer is utterly convincing. You simply surrender.
Sharad Joshi's dialogue is delightful. Music is just as convincing for the period.
Great movie making.

A film by Gulzar saab
6 September 2020
A dancer first loses her fiancee and then her eyesight because of the same person, both by pure Providence. Still she ultimately unites with him. Sounds unconvincing? But this is what happens, and we simply accept and swallow. Fantastic storytelling.
Gulzar saab's contribution in film making is far greater, stands tall in the fitting tradition of Bimal Roy.

Must watch

Great film writing. Very sensitive treatment by both, the writer Gulzar saab and the director Shekhar Kapur, of an inherently disruptive subject. The melodrama is simply cut with amazing skill. And superb performances by all actors.

Enjoyable timeless classic
26 April 2020
Ver well written.
Superbly shot and edited.
Terrific performance s, especially by Nutan and Om Prakash.
Immensely enjoyable song picturisation. Even the climax comes in a superbly picturised and edited song.
Timeless. Not much you can suggest to better it, even today.
