A Christmas Detour (2015)
This movie makes you smile even though I would change afew things.
Loved the movie. Candace Cameron Bure and Paul Greene were excellent leads and always turn in quality performances. The plot made for an enjoyable journey and the four main characters create the right amount of tension to lead the viewers to the predictable ending. What bothered me was Paul Greene's ex-girlfriend (and his brother' s soon to be wife). In 2015 she was 20 years old while Paul was actually 40. He definitely was too old for her. She was not believable as his former ex.
Christmas Coach (2019)
Is it the reviewers or the movie???
This is not Hallmark's best. I get what the complaints are and at first look, I totally agree. However, as the movie progressed, there is a change in both leads. The female lead pulls back a bit and shows a bit more maturity and decorum - just a bit. James, the male lead, softens and gives a credibile performance. During the short "imagination" scene with Lauren in jewels and picturing herself as a fitting match for James, I felt the director was acknowledging that Lauren was immature and "over the top", but she had the potential for growth (and acceptance).
After I began writing this, I got the impression that the naysayers toward the movie took the easy way out and wrote multiple negative reviews or just stated the obvious.
After forcing myself to watch this twice, it moved up on my list to at least painfully acceptable. I now feel that the actors and director purposely went too far in the "campy" direction but didn't realize it would hurt the appeal of the film.
Give Hallmark a bit of credit. They know what they are trying to achieve, but this effort fell a bit short of hitting the mark.
The Perfect Catch (2017)
No wonder Andrew Walker's character was unsigned!!!
This is a nice Hallmark production that features quite a few traditional plots: former couple "reuniting"; woman's business is bad so it might close; ex-boyfriend relates well to the woman's son; a possible broken promise; both father and son work together to overcome their emotional chasm; etc.
The chemistry between the two leads works fine and the reunion of the couple seems inevitable. The denouement comes together quite nicely.
Having seen all of Andrew Walker's Hallmark films, he has previously shown himself to be a good athlete - e.g. skating in a couple of movies. However, he cannot play baseball at all. He can't hit fungoes, swings like a rusty gate, and most definitely, cannot even resemble a major league pitcher, which is what he was supposed to be. I guess that is what you get when a northern Canadian athlete prolific at hockey tries to act as a baseball player.
