Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn (2020)
Only for die hard harley Quinn fans
Nothing remarkable other than the action set pieces which is well choreographed and captured astonishingly. Showing Harley's emotional side made her less sinister leading to an underwhelming film.
Avengers: Endgame (2019)
Fan service at it's peek
This is the best finale to a saga. There are infinite cool references from the start to the end through dialogues, music, costume, sets, e.t.c. The time traveling sequence was clever and so was the intial first hour which dwells on the emotional complexity of the characters. The final hour battle was intentionally fast paced and rushed for targeting multiple viewings. There is no more scene in the history of cinema more classy and massy than portals.
Snowpiercer (2013)
Second Best portrayal of dystopian future after interstellar
This is a movie that sucks you into it's strange world from the very beginning. Chris Evans and Tilda Swinton are amazing. Sociopolitical commentary deserves praise. Fight scenes are well choreographed. Liked this more than parasite. Vfx could have been better. Few places it is illogical but it can be easily overlooked.
Dil Dhadakne Do (2015)
A feel good entertainer that turns every clich into something interesting
First of all, this movie does not deserve the hate it is given here. It seriously needs a higher rating. I was expecting it to be above 8 but BANG... it is just 6.4 NOT FAIR. Oh ok coming to the movie...
This movie depicts the problems in a dysfunctional family in a beautiful way. We have seen several South Indian movies where hero enters a house with large family and solves all the problem. Son of Sardar also dwelved into the same concept. But here the house is converted into cruise and the way ship moves to different places in the world acts as the metaphor for the character arc of the protagonist family. There are several hard hitting scenes. A bit of less exopsing and kissing scenes would have made it even more family friendly. Coming to the performances, Anil kapoor is brilliant and so is Ranveer Singh(although not on par with the performances in his later movies) as a goofy person(the scenes where he reacts to the other people the one where he gives a knife to a lady and confronts his parents are the highly enjoyable scenes of the movie).
The ladies(PC and her mother character) have also done a commendable job. Amir khan as the narrator dog is funny.
The women empowerment message is subtle and delivered crystal clear. However, there are two many supporting characters other than the main family and their predicament is explained in a rushed maneer which makes us unable to relate to them and the film suffers from a weak climax which despite neatly wrapping up is more filmy.
Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol (2011)
The best of the Mission Impossible franchise
This is my favourite of the Mission Impossible franchise for many reasons. First reason is the suspense, each and every scene is filled with suspense, be it the scene in Kremlin or where Tom cruise and Jeremy Renner board a train or burj Khalifa ascent and the scenes following it or the climax fight in automobile parking. Action is always the talking point of mission impossible but the action scenes have never been this better.
But the movie has it's own share of problems. Anil Kapoor's role was not well fleshed. The Mumbai portions were drag (it only takes a fifth gear in the climax fight) especially when it is coming after stupendous Dubai portion.
Bigil (2019)
A good movie but the weakest of Atlee-Vijay combo
The film starts with an introduction of Michael followed by Verithanam song which is picturised beautifully. The romance portions were boring. The football matches were interesting but suffered from poor vfx. Next, coming to the Rayappan character, it was bit forced but still was the only redeeming factor of the first half. Only the entry of Rayappan was interesting for me, but it was ruined in the trailer. The first half ends with an interesting Interval block and the real story begins only in the second half.
The fight scenes in the second half were also not much interesting but emotions covers the flaws to the large extent. The portions where he learns about the antagonist and the subsequent mass scene was fantastic. The police station scene was illogical but good. The episodes of married woman and acid attack victim were touching. The scene where Vijay scolds all the girls was funny and a special mention to the emotional climax.
Cinematography was bliss and A.R Rahman's songs were great but the Verithanam bgm was awful. Cgi could have been better and editing could have been better in the first half.
Villain character is again weak.
A masala movie from Atlee-Vijay combo which can be definitely watched more than one time.
