Fanboys (2009)
Great Flick
I'm not a movie critic so I'm not going to act like one like many people do on here.
Plain and simple Fanboys was great. The movie had a strong story and was very funny. If your into star wars, comics, movies, pop culture, you will throughly enjoy this movie. Go see it.
Myself, and 4 of my friends took a road trip to Chicago to see it. I think the road trip really made the movie even better.
Its in limited release, but its worth the road trip. It was a lot of fun.
Love this flick.
Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (2008)
DVD Review
When I first saw Skull at the theater I left slightly disappointed. Its a good entertaining flick, but I think that so much hype/anticipation made it impossible to determine whether it was good or not.
I mean a lot of people saw it once and that was it. So I bought the DVD like a true Indy fan and watched it again. After watching the behind the scenes featurette, then the flick itself I've come to the conclusion that its a damn good film.
No its not Raiders or Crusade, but it is one thing, Indy. Skull is a really good entertaining film. Harrison is back in great form, I mean come on think of all the old man jokes prior to the film being released, one thing you can say is that everyone agrees that he was simply amazing as Indy again.
Indy and Marion were great together, it felt like raiders all over again, those two have great chemistry. I'm one of the people that really doesn't like shia, but after seeing this film again, hes really not that bad. A lot of people just don't like him, so right away they weren't going to like his character from the get go. But if you look at the character set in that time period, hes pretty good, nothing spectacular, just a normal solid character. Hes Indy's son, but he doesn't have that charm that Indy has.
Overall, this is a good adventure. Harrison made this film, as I watched this film I just smiled at how many great Indy moments there are. I'm really okay with the 'nuke the fridge seen' now, its outlandish, but Indy's had a lot of those moments, thats what makes him Indy.
I honestly think that the audience has changed. Skull is Indy. Its not any different from the originals. The story unfolds the same way as the others did, and its a damn good adventure. To me its just that people my age are just different viewers. Teenagers/Twenty year olds make up the majority of todays audience, and it seem to me that people my age just bitch and moan about every blockbuster movie now a days. They pick and prod every little detail, rather then just sitting back and enjoying the films.
If you're an Indy fan, this is a great flick. It's not better then Raiders or Crusade, but its damn good. 8/10 (I hope we get one more!)
War, Inc. (2008)
A Satire for the Ages
I feel ashamed that I saw this film online instead of a theater. Let me say that War Inc. is a great film. Even though I didn't, I would have paid my 10 dollars to view this film. Hypocritical yes, but true all the same.
With films like Kung Fu Panda, Sex and the City, and the never ending amount of sequels or remakes, it is nice to get a great original film like this one.
This is a satire. Labeled a comedy it is not, there are some parts that are laugh out loud funny, but the majority of this film is comedy in the way of a satire.
The film takes in light what the United States had become under this current administration. A corporation driven, sometimes unethical run country. Though that the film may seem political, and it is to a point, it is in no way an out right, they are wrong and we are right type of message. The film merely points out what is wrong with our government, it does not in any way try to suede the viewer to one side or another.
Now I could use big words, trying to make myself sound like some real film critic like many users do on this site. But I will not. Plain and simple, this film is a great film, an entertaining one, and one that you should all see.
The writing, directing and the acting are superb. John Cusack and his sister Joan give very solid performances. But the star(s) actors of this film are Marisa Tomei as a hard nosed reporter, and Hilary Duff. Yes, that is not a typo I said Hilary Duff. She truly shines in this film. I'm no fan in anyway, but getting her away from the pop/Disney/teen flick scene has truly changed my view of her. This is a performance that I will not forget anytime soon.
Overall, this film is quite good. Yes, if you are a conservative Bush loving person you probably won't enjoy this film, but any person with common sense and a strong view of the world will truly love this film.
If you like films like Thank you for smoking, and even Man of the Year, this is a film for you.
9/10 SEE THIS MOVIE.
AVPR: Aliens vs Predator - Requiem (2007)
Looked Badass...but not so much.
*Minor Spoiler/Possible useful info* I gave AVP-R a 5 out of 10. For two main reasons: 1. No plot 2. No bad ass final fight.
Now I liked the first AVP. Yea, it was pg13 but whocares, it had a good plot, and some sweet action scenes. If AVP was R it would have been a really great movie, instead of just a good entertaining flick.
AVP-R looked badass. And there are some cool fight scenes, but the film is very anti-climactic. The ending just blew. The final fight between the Predator and the Hybrid started off good but went no where fast, plus the fight really didn't end. The plot, well was there even a plot. I mean grant you its AVP and all but still its a film and it should try and go somewhere, AVP 1 did that, but this one does not.
Then there is like 3 times when it seems like the movie is about to end, but it keeps going. I've seen lord of the rings, with its 12 endings, lets forget this non ending BS.
This will help like 90% of the people that see this film, the chick at the end works for the weyland company. Weyland is bishop from the alien franchise, and the old rich business guy from AVP. Thats why she knew about the gun. At first I thought she was the Chick from the original Predator who owned the corporation, but until I got home and hopped on here I didn't realize she was a Weyland person. Honestly, not many people will make the connection, the theater I was in most people kept asking about who that chick was and why it didn't make sense.
Overall, its not that good. This really could have been a badass film. But I think the whole, its going to be R so lets just gore it up really didn't work. I loved that idea but you still need a plot and kick ass final showdown, which does not happen. Very disappointing.
p.s. Predator was still a badass. nuff said.
5/10
Miami Vice (2006)
A beautiful film
I recently watched this film on demand. I was like many others who thought why make a Miami Vice film. It's a symbol of the 80's and what not.
I saw the trailer and thought I might see it but after reading some of the reviews of the film I figured it must be lousy and I didn't see it. Two days ago I was very bored and decided to watch this film and I am glad I did.
First of all if you're a fan of the original TV series mostly the first couple of seasons then you will love this film. The film has some spectacular and beautiful shots. It is one of the best films ever shot in terms of cinematography. The film itself is great it's well paced and the dialog is intriguing. The acting and the dynamic relationships are also very good. Colin Farrel does a very good job but I think him trying to hide his accent makes his presence some what strangled. Jamie Foxx was great he really pulled of Rico.
After watching this film you really get the feel that this is an episode of the original series. I think that's one of the pluses to the film. Miami Vice is a modern and edgy realistic version of the campy television series and is something that I do recommend everyone to see.
Blade: The Series (2006)
The Truth About Blade The Series
OK now the first time I was introduced to the Blade character was the Spiderman Cartoon in the 90's and I loved it. I am not one of the die hard Blade fans, I did not see any of the Blade films in the theaters until Blade Trinity came out and I must say I enjoyed the film franchise so when I heard that spike was going to produce Blade on TV I thought hey that's cool but its not going to last.
Well I'm happy to say I was wrong, I have watched every episode in order on spike and at first I thought the show was good and the stories were great this show reminds me of the Highlander TV show that was very successful. Now at first to be honest I thought Sticky's Blade sucked he was kinda flat and didn't seem to bring Blade out at all unlike wesley snipes portrayal which was great.
But I just finished watching the 'Hunters' episode which I believe is the best episode yet and may I say that Sticky has officially become Blade he's really got the character down referring to the scene where he says "cant smile asshole" and throws the vampire out the window so Blade and he's doing one hell of a job he is Blade! OK so your abit skeptical about watching this TV show, all you need to know is Blade the series has good solid acting, strong characters, and great stories I love the direction this show is going and I hope that Spike realizes they have a very good show that has a bright future. Blade the series has all the qualities to be a successful and long term show.
I've been reading on the message boards that the die hard film fans do not like the show and want it cancelled, all I want to say is this show is not a movie, these stories are different and its a new outlook for the franchise and all you die hard film fans must realize this and if you watch this show without your decision already made you will realize that Blade the Series is a strong and fun show to watch its very intriguing and fun to watch I easily give Blade The Series a 9 out of 10 and the way this show is going I wouldn't put it past them to receive a 10 out of 10 for next season. It's a must see and beats the crap out of Desperate Housewives
