Vinland Saga: The King and the Sword (2023)
Extremely underrated episode
Now i do have to say that i would realistically give this episode a 9 but ive decided to give it a 10 to balance out the 7s and everything below.
There is nothing bad about this episode, it simply sets up the next episode and the entire second half of the season. Sure nothing very interesting happens during this episode but i think its very slow pacing makes the impact in the next episode stand out. This episode does everything it needs to and it doesnt really waste time while doing so, sure it takes its time with the story that it needs to tell, but imagine what if this episode was way faster paced. The episode would end somewhere around the beginning of the fight and the fight/twist that the next episode has would not be nearly as impactful. This episode also has really good character work. We see Ketils, Olmars and Thorgils dynamic for basically the only time in the entire show and the episode also sets up leifs return to the spotlight. I really dont have anything bad to say about this episode and i think it serves it purpose as a build-up episode.
Vinland Saga: Emperor of Rebellion (2023)
Peak
This episode is perfection. The animation, the backgrounds, the voice acting, the music and most importantly the writing in this episode is magnificent. It feels like the whole season has been building up to this moment. The clash of ideals is one of vinland sagas most common ways of storytelling but i think this is the perfect example. Theres not much to say honestly if youve seen this episode you know exactly what im talking about, which is why i dont think its necessary to explain why i like this episode so much. Usually extremely high rated episodes have some insane action sequence or twist or both but this episode manages to have its highlight simply be people talking about the way they think and the way their ideals clash with each other. The episode sounds rather simple but it manages to be extremely interesting and entertaining, that is writing. I dont think ive ever been as invested in a fictional conversation in my life.
Vinland Saga: The First Measure (2023)
I find it extremly funny how
Theres a user named moritzheitz or smth like that who did a review on the S2 episode storm where they gushed about the idea of vinland as if it was the first time it had been mentioned in the entire show although it was talked about a lot during the first season.
However it was even funnier when i went to check the reviews on this episode and i found the same guy talking about arnheid getting beat up while rambling about the masters kodex but completely disregarding the fact that she was never given the choice to become free.
Anyways i think moritzheitz should focus more on watching the show than writing their silly reviews 10/10 review by mortvrkeveownw.
Vinland Saga: Dark Clouds (2023)
Episode 13 is a slowly paced tension building surprise
I was totally expecting that Canuuts invasion was going to be the main focus of this episode but it isn't even mentioned and instead the episode manages to throw even more layers of cheese in to the mix.
The escaped slave seemed like a bit of filler first but as the episode goes on its importance comes more and more clear, and goddamn I was not expecting the twist at the end. Arnheid is basically the first woman in the show who seems to have any importance after S1 EP4 so its nice to see her character get more story relevance. The episode is great but not perfect though. The grandpa becoming more and more senile is a sad, realistic and interesting story factor however I think they should have emphasized on it before all of the current stuff in the story started happening. Great episode 9/10.
