Kung Fu (2021)
Terrible
Being into Real fighting Kung-fu for over forty years, having watched the hundreds of Kung-fu movies on the seventies and eighties and the Kung-fu The Legend continues show on the mid nineties which I really liked, I wanted to like this show. Even though I'm personally Sick of the constant insulting remakes where every male character must now be replaced with Females, if she knows real martial arts and is competent, I'm open to the show being good. But sadly she is pretty bad and the action scenes are too few and the choreography and camera work are terrible to.
This is why Bruce Lee movies are STILL So well received because he was a real Martial artist and an EXTREMELY serious one at that. In the Matrix movies, the actors spent months learning authentic movie Kung-fu from the award winning Chinese martial arts team of Yuen woo-ping, the same team that was used to choreograph many of the greatest Kung-fu movies ever to come out of China. In fact the training that the Matrix actors went through was so hard that Carrie Ann who played Trinity said she was seriously considering quitting on more than one occasion.
The point is that those movies were so good because the fighting was as realistic as you could get it to be from non martial arts actors. If you're going to do a show called Kung-fu that's a remake of the original, at LEAST have the actor learn some real fighting. Even though David Carradine was not a real MA either, he was one of the few that were able to truly pull off those moves and he was also learning on set as well during filming.
I only watched a couple of episodes but I could not get hooked onto this show. Between the bad fight scenes, lack of action and poor writing, it's just a weak show and I'm surprised to see that it's somehow in it's third season and still on TV as of this post.
Salt (2010)
Interesting but just TOO Ridiculous
A good overall story and concept but I can't stand these movies that have to sell cater to the female superhuman trope that's been so overdone even since the '80s it's ridiculous. Every woman is somehow able to take on multiple trained men at once and knock them all out with one blow or one strike, she's able to crack all the best security and don't think a room full of the top and smartest men in any field because it's the same nonsensical psyop that's endlessly being pushed about women somehow being Superior to men.
She does stuff in this movie that even Captain America would be hard pressed to accomplish. So many of these fight scenes in movies are just completely ludicrous where the main person fights a character one at a time while the other highly trained operatives in both hand-to-hand combat and in weapons play somehow just stand around and wait for their turn to get their butt kicked when in reality they would all be on top of them in a split Second. As a martial artist and engineer these scenes are just so over the top ridiculous and unrealistic it's just absolute nonsense.
Even highly trained women like Ronda Rousey you thought she could beat up any man until she got her butt handed to her by a better woman in the UFC ring, who kicked her butt so badly she quit the UFC after it and went into fake professional wrestling instead. Not to mention some of the most ridiculous scenes like when she's handcuffed in the NYPD police car her hands are conveniently handcuffed in front of her so she can suddenly strike the two officers with one debilitating blow while the other one just stands there watching until it's their turn to get struck. This is exactly why suspects are all handcuff behind their backs and for someone who just killed the Russian president I'm sure she would be in shackles and be put in a Patty wagon not in just a regular car. Then she somehow controls the driver using a taser to manipulate his legs and make him step on the brake or gas when she wants them to, give me a BREAK.
It doesn't matter HOW much training you have. You can't overcome the built-in limitations of the human body and this is especially true for women who because of their smaller size, lighter weight and weaker muscles, even with training over years they simply cannot generate the kind of power or striking force that men can generate. Not to mention men have more dense musculature and due to their increased size and Mass are able to absorb more impact than a woman can even if the blows were the same power level. This is why it's ridiculous when they show either salt or even Black widow taking down train men with one strike. At least with black widow she is said to have been given a basic version of the super soldier serum making her 50% stronger than the average man and increasing her toughness as well. That at least lends to some plausibility for her ability to hold her own against Hawkeye and even defeat some men.
While it's true that you have to suspend your belief to some degree with movies, Hollywood just tries so hard to turn women all into superhuman killing machines of superior intellect and mental capabilities over men and it's just been so overdone hundreds and hundreds of times that it's beyond ridiculous and it's just the same old nonsense over and over again. When you have trained with women as I have, even women who are actually better in skill than some of the other guys, their size, weight differential and lack of strength we're always deciding factors and who actually won the fights. These girls practiced specific techniques that gave them significant punching power even by male standards but they still could not equally other trained male fighters.
Then of course at the end she takes a punch from the security chief who puts his entire body weight behind the blow and she shrugs it off like it was just a little love tap and there is no blood, no teeth knocked out and somehow she's not knocked out but of course she can knock out other men with one strike all throughout the movie line she's fighting a bunch of 3-year-olds.
She pulls more magical escapes than Houdini could and is more unstoppable and unbeatable than a Terminator. Overall the Level of suspension of belief needed to enjoy this movie is just Too much for me or anyone else above a certain level of intellect.
Cocoon (1985)
BEAUTIFUL Movie with Lovely Music
I watched this movie over and over and it's so beautiful, funny, charming. One of those you never really get tired of.
For me especially, The Music to this movie, especially the score that plays towards the end which is also the main theme is just INCREDIBLY beautiful. I love it so much I play it on my keyboard and piano and never get tired of hearing it either. Composed by James Horner, one of my favorite composers of all time (Land Before Time, Star Trek II, Apollo 13, Aliens, Titanic etc) this piece is Sooo Deep, Sad, Moving and powerful. It really hits Deep to the heart and I can't hear it without a tear thinking of my mother who passed in 2013 who also loved this movie. The special effects still look quite good even in this photo realistic CGI age of effects and this is one of the most beautiful movies make IMO.
Friends (1994)
I NEVER understood the hype
I don't get why soooo many people are obsessed with this show. Seems to be made for simpletons, low IQ average people or..I don't know. I just never even laughed at this show. Seems like the same kind of people that love this show also love ones like Roseanne or other similar shows. I find most of the jokes and humor simple and predictable and just not funny.
I Am Number Four (2011)
Loved it. I thought this was A Great movie
I'm not really sure why there are so many low reviews for this movie. I was never bored watching it as the story moves along at a good pace. The casting for the movie is very good as all of the acting is pretty well done and the CGI special effects are quite excellent overall. This movie has some very good action sequences that are very well done and believable and especially the climactic fight scene at the end of the movie was packed with energy, good fighting and martial arts type skills and some new surprises from number six as far as her abilities go.
The cast are not only good actors but also all good looking people, Especially Dianne Argon as this was the first time I had seen her in anything and she is absolutely beautiful with a very delicate feminine acting style and comes off as such a sweet likeable girl. Even though I'm normally attracted to brunettes I would date her in a heartbeat if I were a much younger man. The actress playing number six is nearly as attractive and she did a great job in the action sequences and is also a very good actress as well.
The lead actor whose name escapes me at the moment also was very well cast and he did an excellent job in his action sequences and at playing the frustrated teenager who is trying to figure out how to use his powers.
I think most people are generally being very nitpicking which seems to be the standard these days as even many of the younger Star Wars fans constantly nitpick every Star Wars movie or TV show where they're picking apart even the color of somebody's shoes. I was waiting for the next movie in this sequence but unfortunately they will not be any more made to which I was very disappointed to learn years ago.
I like the way you could see as his powers were developing and he got stronger and more capable and eventually started to develop quite powerful telekinetic abilities, superhuman strength and Captain America level durability as well. It would have been great to see the next movies and see just how strong and powerful he actually became as his guardian told him his powers would just continue to grow. I guess I'll have to try to read the books instead.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 16: The Rescue (2020)
YES - THIS IS STAR WARS!! Tears of Joy
I was BACK to being NINE AGAIN as others have said seeing Star Wars for the First time, or even as a teen seeing Luke first Walk into Jabba's Palace and watching it hundreds of times since then!!
My Gf and I yelled OUT LOUD when we saw Lukes X-Wing fighter comes on the screen as we KNEW it was finally Luke and the fight scene with the Super Battle Droids was fantastic! Shows the TRUE POWER and Skill of Luke Skywalker and of course he wasn't even breaking a sweat!
The CGI of making Luke look just slightly older than in Return of the Jedi was a Masterpiece and his voice was a DEAD on match, which even though it was Mark Hamill, they also made it sound younger too. AWESOME work! We watched it several times and I had an ear to ear grin on my face the entire time and clapped and applauded at various scenes. They did this SOO well with the tearful goodbye of Grogu with the Mandalorian and even an old special friend showed up with Luke too, but I won't say for those that might not have seen it this yet.
Now IF ONLY they did ALL the Sequels like this set just a few years after Return of the Jedi instead of the IDIOTIC 30 years and if they GAVE the characters and fans THIS kind of Love, respect and story, the movies would have made ten billion dollars and been possibly more popular than the originals!!
I watched this three times so far and I'm in tears each time.
Thank you Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni!!!
Wonder Woman (2017)
I don't get all the hate, One of the best DCEU movies.
I don't know why so many dislike this movie as I end all my friends and family I thought it was quite excellent overall. Gal Gadot did the character of Wonder Woman great credit as I thought she played it perfectly because she was a smart and very sensitive caring woman so was respectful of everybody and was about preserving life as well as beautiful and sexy but who could also be an extremely Fierce Warrior and could take on the toughest opponents such as Ares and even doomsday as she did in Batman versus Superman.
The movie showed her Origins and training well but didn't spend too much time on Paradise Island and it showed how she met Steve and the strong Chemistry Between the two characters up until the end. I like very much that she was showing as being a woman of deep love which is all too rare with women in real life let alone on TV and movies as she was screaming in Rage and pain when she saw Steve killed in the explosion in the plane which is what fuelled her extra powers and brought out her real abilities enabling her to finally defeat Ares. This is something you rarely see from women in superhero movies and was a breath of refreshing air especially compared to the wooden and unfeeling performance of Brie Larson and the terrible Captain Marvel who was virtually the exact opposite of the deeply loving and passionate Diana play by Gal Gadot.
What I also like about this movie was the fact that there was actually a lot of biblical truth in it no of course disguised as other characters and historical mythological figures which is common in many such movies. With Aries being Satan for example and pretty much everything he said as far as what he does and has done to mankind is correct even though what he says is a lie about how he doesn't make mankind use the weapons which is technically true buddy fans the Flames of human emotions and has given man to Technologies by putting these things into the minds of man. This is exactly what he did with the female weapons scientists as they show it at the end when you saw Aries in spirit form whispering new suggestions into her head that she thinks are her own and that she came up with about powerful form of deadly gas based on hydrogen instead of sulphur.
The movie showcased all the various powers and abilities of Wonder Woman from her incredible athletic prowess to her superhuman strength easily lifting 10 or 20 ton tanks overhead as if they only weigh a few pounds as well as showing how tough and durable she is which is nearly On a par with Superman except for his being completely invulnerable and bulletproof which she is not, but her body is just as hard and Unbreakable as his is as he was even able to successfully take on doomsday alone for periods of time in Batman vs Superman.
Once you understand where most of the superhero stories really come from that they're basically altered versions of biblical stories then I have found you enjoy the much more because a lot of truth is actually being broadcast in a way that the average person thinks is simply sci-fi or mythology but it really isn't because just as Aries claimed that mankind stole the world from him historically that is exactly what Satan thinks and his hated mankind because man is in the image of God and Satan hates the fact that God has more patience with mankind then he did with him or his angels or so that is what Satan thinks even though that is actually not true. Satan also thinks he is a god of Truth just as Ares stated, as it is all satan knows how to do which is counterfeit everything of God.
Overall it seems that most people who are under 35 or so are just ridiculously spoiled. To even say that this is bad CGI is just ludicrous as I don't know what you would consider good CGI then... Maybe only Marvel or Star Wars movies?
Just as people complain on YouTube if every video is not in 1080P it's like they're so triggered and upset they can't even watch it instead of looking at things for the content everyone is simply looking to have their senses stimulated constantly or something.. I'm not even sure what.
I thought that the story flow of the movie was good overall and even during its slow Parts it was not boring as the story moved along and had some nice picture of humour mixed in between to give it a balance between fighting an action and comedy and you had the I can the appeal of Wonder Woman herself with her very skimpy outfit and long sexy legs. Her fighting was excellent as Gal Gadot also knows martial arts in real life and her Sword Play and skills with the golden lasso we're all well done and I can say this as a real martial artist myself that I was happy with the fighting levels overall in the movie. But mostly I like how serious she was as a woman and How Deeply she loves Steve Trevor which as mentioned is all too rare in women today who are all too often portrayed as cold, self-centered, materialistic and greedy beings with no heart or depth to them at all but Wonder Woman was exactly the opposite of all of this and it was actually a credit to women overall.
I'm not sure what people who are giving this such low rating are expecting. I was a kid when the original Wonder Woman with Lynda Carter aired on TV in the 70s and while she was the quintessential Wonder Woman akin to Christopher Reeve being the perfect Superman. I found Gal Gadot performance in portrayal as a very Worthy successor to Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman.
I think so many of these negative reviews or something because this movie was made with more depth and feeling and these younger the oars and younger Generations are so used to shallow empty garbage that they do not know what a good movie really entails anymore. Just as I have seen dozens and dozens of 10 star reviews for Star Trek discovery precisely because it's a complete departure from all of the previous Star Trek movies and TV shows that is exactly why it is complete garbage as it is full of sjw nonsense with women constantly berating men, putting them in down and treat him like crap with idiotic nonsense of all characters and horrible stories. The same exact thing was done to Star Wars with the sequels which is why true core Star Wars fans such as myself found them to be absolutely abhorrent and this is also true even if many in their late twenties and thirties.
I heard that the same thing is about to happen to Marvel as well with women taking over everything and are going to be made out to be more powerful and successful than most of the male characters which again once you understand feminism and its true Origins and what these liberal agendas are really all about you then see why every movie these days has to have female characters that are stronger and smarter and tougher than men because it's really all about goddess and radical feminism which is what the true origins of feminism are which date back to the ancients goddess religions where women were worship as Superior to men, but I digress.
I don't know what these people who are ripping this movie to shreds actually consider to be a good superhero movie anymore these days. Perhaps only something that is exactly like the Marvel movies will satisfy them.
The Mandalorian: Chapter 13: The Jedi (2020)
OMG OMG WOW WOW WOW thank you Dave, Jon & Rosario!
As others as have said, WOOOOOOOW!!! ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!
BETTER THAN ANYTHING Star Wars related since the original clone Wars cartoon and Rebels to for the most part, But this is the FIRST SHOW or anything Star Wars related to compare with the ORIGINAL TRILOGY and was right up there with Revenge of the Sith & Empire etc. TAKE NOTE KATHLEEN KENNEDY. This is how the sequels SHOULD HAVE BEEN!
Also the fact that they seem to be going closer and closer to the EU books and hopefully Grand admiral Thrawn will actual appear in a later episode and they BETTER KEEP Ahsoka coming back on a regular basis to. It would be absolutely STUNNING if Ahsoka actually met and worked with Luke at some point to. OMG
Rosario did such A GREAT JOB as she NAILED AHSOKA DOWN PAT and her fighting and saber skills were pretty darn good to! I felt like I was watching A STAR WARS movie as they totally respected the characters, look, lore, history, rules, science, physics and FEEL of Star Wars. EXACTLY what core fans, like me and tens of millions of others that grew up with Star Wars have been BEGGING FOR for 15 years! We waited for decades for episodes 7,8 & 9 and I KNEW they were going to screw up the sequels and they did that royally. But I digress.
I feel like I can finally breathe again ad we FINALLY GOT some REAL STAR WARS AGAIN! Can't wait for more!
Wild Wild West (1999)
Just a horrible mishmash of nonsense
We know that movies require a certain sense of suspended belief and reality to enjoy, but I've always hated movies like this that just go sooo far down the realm of ridiculousness that only a six year old child could buy into it.
I won't go into so the horrible plot points as other commentators have done that well enough. Suffice it to say that Star Wars and Star Trek are far more believable and acceptable than this nonsense.
Maybe it's the huge science and physics buff in me but when you have a movie set in a time that's about one hundred and fifty years ago but somehow has technology that's STILL more advanced than we have today, I simply CAN NOT take anything else the movie puts out seriously, nor can I enjoy it because to me it's like I'm living in an alternate reality or something and I simply don't like shows and movies of that nature. That's probably why I like science fiction and science in general so much. Even though science fiction is fiction mostly, because it takes place in the future there is a very logical progression and acceptance because who knows what actually have technology that's we'll have in one, two or even three hundred years. The when you have a movie like this that's going a hundred and fifty years in the past and showing technology that's 150 years in the future it's just absolutely ridiculous and a mishmash of realities that someone like myself and other people that enjoy rationale and logic over silly attempts to entertain, simply can't accept or go along with even for a couple of hours.
Others who don't have this problem and whose minds aren't as much reality or science based probably have a much easier time enjoying a movie like this and those are probably the people that loved this movie.
I've never seen the original show either. Since will Smith was a fan of the original show, that's probably why he thought that the matrix was "cheap sci-fi" as he put it. As opposed to what Will... Cheap and laughable attempts at the Borg meets the old west? Of course he's well aware that this was the biggest mistake of his career and one that still pisses him off even to this day, especially seeing how much money the matrix made and it's still enduring popularity and how unique the movies are in hollywood history.
So if bad sci-fi or bad silly movies and shows like Sharknado or cheap Syfy channel type movies are your thing, then you just might like this movie. I personally don't as I hate movies that are just so inaccurate and ridiculous that they're an insult to my intellect and require such a suspension of belief that only a child could accept.
Enterprise: Cogenitor (2003)
Trip can be such an idiot!
While other reviewers have pointed out the hypocrisy of Captain archer in berating trip over his Grievous error in this episode, I found it far more annoying and how stupid trip is especially for someone who's supposed to be so smart and a top engineer.
He has a very childlike like naivety to him that gets him in a lot of trouble over the course of the series and this episode is one of the worst so far. He is very presumptuous and arrogant especially in this episode where he fills the CoGenitors head with all kinds of nonsense about human rights end personal choice and individuality when she's obviously not human at all you idiot. Then he tries to blame it on Captain Archer saying that this is what Archer would have done. But the things that Archer has done in the past are not the same here as those were species that were either being enslaved or people who asked specifically for help. Even the situation in the Vulcan Sanctuary at the gym is not the same as the Vulcans were in violation in hiding the listening station and all he did was reveal its to the andorians because he has a lot of issues with how the Vulcans behave at times.
Then even up until the end he still doesn't even realize what he did was incorrect and like a child he tries to blame his actions on Archer claiming Archer would have done the same thing but as already mentioned the situations are not exactly identical Anne Archer even asked him if the cogenitor requested Asylum which she did not until trip filled her head with the nonsense of her being a Slave when she is not. She is part of the evolutionary development of the species and that is her role to fulfill and helping to propagate the entire species with trip was potentially threatening by his actions in trying to liberate miss being from a slavery that does not exist.
Trips inability to control his own emotions or see beyond himself is a major flaw. Even after his sister was unfortunately killed by the testing of the xindi superweapon in the beginning of season 3, he still unable to come to terms with at 8 months later and it's still sobbing like a baby and it's interfering with his work so much that he can barely do anything else. Then after the Enterprise locates the super weapons creator degra and Captain Archer is going through a lot of effort to make progress and explaining that they're both being deceived by these Trends dimensional beings, Tripp still cannot let go of his grief and starts to berate Daedra on several occasions throwing it in his face about the 7 million people that died including his sister during the weapons test on Earth. T'pol had to step in on a couple of occasions to remind him of what the captain is trying to accomplish in getting degra on our side and stopping the destruction of the rest of the planet, but once again trip simply could not put his emotions aside or grief aside and was almost ready to come to blows with degra and would have again sabotaged the entire thing which could have meant the destruction of the Earth if Archer and Degra stopped working together... IDIOT. Even when it was obvious that degra had great remorse about creating the weapon as he had children of his own end this weight extremely heavy upon him about how many billions of children in people overall would be killed by the weapon that these people were basically forcing him to create. But as usual trip didn't even notice or care about this and all he cared about was his own grief and desire for Pure retribution or Revenge. Yes we can all understand his need or want for this but again for someone who is supposed to be so smart he certainly acts like a complete idiot far more times than he should.
So while other commenters seem to blame more of this on archers bad example which may be part of the problem again he is not a five year old child who is simply emulating what his daddy is doing. He has more than enough brains and Common Sense especially being a senior officer but he should certainly know not to interfere in such a way with other cultures. If I were the captain I would have told him that if he can't put his feelings aside when it comes to meeting other cultures then he has no business being on a ship of exploration and has no business being in Starfleet.
I also agree that this can also apply to Archer as well has overall I seriously dislike either how this character was written or the way that Bakula played him. I'm not sure which. Archer always seemed to be one step away from getting violent and he seems to be suffering from a form of bipolar disorder as one minute he is come and then a second later he is yelling and stepping up right in someone's face with very aggressive and arrogant body language and words. He did this throughout the series and it really aggravated me a lot. Then I also noticed was someone who is supposed to be a trained diplomat he often came off as being very rude, impolite, disrespectful and just a plane jerk.
So while I certainly have my issues with Captain Archer, in this episode I would certainly put the majority of the blame on Tripp as he is an adult, an engineer, a senior officer and has been in Starfleet for at least 10 years if not more and should have certainly known better then to interfere so blatantly in a brand-new culture and probably one of the first first contacts they made that was so friendly and went so smoothly until he completely screwed it up and almost sabotaged the future of their species working together.
Man of Steel (2013)
This is not Superman, but a good movie overall
I disliked several things about this movie. The first being that this version of Superman seemed to be way under powered as he had to struggle just to lift up the oil rig structure which is usually nothing for supes.
The second MAJOR thing I really hated about this was some of the editing which in the beginning at least was all OVER the place. One minute he's shown working at the bar, then for no explicable reason he's on his way up north. Then Lois is at the daily planet, then SOMEHOW both her and clark are up at the north pole together... What?? There was no in between dialogue or any reasons why they both decided to go there. You're left to assume that Clark was sensing a reason to go there and Lois was sent there by the planet as she somehow had some connections to get there and then Clark reveals his powers to her in the first two minutes of meeting her... What?!
I also didn't like the alien nature of a lot of the technology which several of the things including the bizarre costume that Zod wore, especially the large apparatus around his neck was exactly taken from carvings of aliens found thousands of years ago that show the exact same thing around its neck. It just didn't have the clean advanced Kryptonian look that we've seen for decades even in the comics and especially in the Superman movies showing their Crystal based Technologies and the general appearance of their vessels. It was rather dirty and almost look like the ships in The Matrix.
Then there's others have said you have the bizarre way that his father died were you seem to not even care and was often disrespectful to his father, then his lack of concern for civilians and property damage and his unnecessary killing of Zod. Yes is odd said that he would never stop but that was no different than the same scenario in Superman 2 where is Superman found the way to remove his powers. You could argue that Superman killed Zod in that movie as well though it was generally indirectly simply because he threw him 50 ft into one of the walls of the Fortress where he probably slid down hundreds of feet to his death. But he didn't directly break his neck as was shown in this movie.
Overall as others have said this was not really Superman which is why it's interesting that the title doesn't have the word Superman in it but simply Man of Steel because this character seems to be quite different from Superman of the last 75 years or so.
Yes the special effects were certainly excellent and the music was pretty good though not as good as the John Williams score but I also don't like the darker direction in which Superman is being taken especially as he was shown in Superman versus Batman which is why many people were glad to see him as quite different in dawn of Justice which was more of a return to the traditional Superman of old.
Good Guys Wear Black (1978)
THIS IS THE FILM THAT FIRST EXPOSED ME TO THE MARTIAL ARTS
I was ten years old and this was the first movie I saw by myself along with my brother and a couple of friends. While the overall story is confusing and the martial arts scenes are light, I was amazed at what Chuck was doing on screen.
Having been bullied and intimidated daily by much older bigger brothers and even people at school, this was exactly what I needed as if I could only learn those skills I wouldn't have to be afraid anymore and I could fight back if needed. I started practicing what I could on my own and from the plethora of Kungfu movies that came on TV every Saturday at 3pm.
I knew about Bruce Lee but had not even seen any of his movies till years later as Chuck was it for me. Having spent over thirty years now in real fighting Gungfu and looking back and can see how sloppy a lot of what Chuck was doing at the time, but I still like this movie and thank and respect Chuck as he has been a great inspiration and help set me on the path of real old school Gungfu training which includes health, nutrition, herbs, Chi-gung, meditation and so much more. I've taught some of it to my daughter when she was young and it gave her a lot of confidence when she needed it throughout grade and high school... Sometimes to much lol. But if Chuck hadn't made those movies I might not have ever gotten so inspired to train, at least not at that time, though I still would have ran into my friend in 9th grade who became my Gungfu teacher and set me on this path. Of course we're it not for Bruce Lee, Chuck wouldn't have gotten into the movies so I owe Bruce many thanks for that too.
Others have already mentioned the plot one which is pretty simple. Compared to most movies today and the amount of action it will seem slow as it does even to me at times. But I still really like this movie a lot and it will always hold a special place for me.
I was also very taken with the beautiful Anne Archer as she looked quite sexy and beautiful in that form fitting ski outfit to and was one of my first movie star crushes. Forty years later I still think she's beautiful having just watched her in patriot games on cable which made me look her up and brought me here lol.
The cool fight scene in the parking lot where Chuck is taking on several guys at once with spinning whip kicks and other strikes to the awesome kick through the windshield killing the bad guy who tries to run him over are still cool today.
So from a critical point of view the movie is only about average. If you're a Chuck Norris fan then I'm sure you'll like it overall.
Chuck does a lot of charity work with under privileged youth for decades and has always been a great advocate for health and fitness and the total gym of course lol. At 80 years old he's still going strong, can still do all the punching and kicking, still works out daily and is very much into diet and eating right. He could still pass for being in his late 50's at this point and you've never heard anything negative and the guy from anyone.
Whatever you think of this film or any of his others, he's a great role model whether you're into martial arts or not and a great person by all accounts.
Star Trek: Voyager: The Fight (1999)
One of the most boring episodes in any Star Trek show. Watching paint dry is more interesting.
While I understand those who are trying to look into the Deeper aspects of Star Trek, the average and even above average viewer does not do this. If you're a movie critic type of person then maybe you'll like this episode like the few who gave it ten stars, but to the average viewer who watches the show for the technology, general story and action, this is just horrible.
I haven't watched it in a while because when it comes back onto my DVR I just delete it instantly as I recall how utterly ridiculous it was the first few times 8 saw it. Chakotay having a love for boxing that was NEVER mentioned before and somehow Boothby, who is now not only the head grounds keeper but he's Mickey from Rocky and a boxing trainer to? Lol... Just so silly.
People aren't watching Star Trek to judge it like you would Shakespeare or some broadway play. They watch it for the general space concept, the technology, sometimes the girls and space battles to. They watch it for things they don't get in a regular Earth bound TV show, which this episode completely lacks all of these elements. Just terrible
Star Trek: Picard (2020)
How can ANYONE who understands what Star Trek is, like this series? It's NOT Star Trek at all!
The federation with it's core values, principals, morality and desire to help and stand by your comrades, friends and fellow Star fleet officers... Is ALL GONE!
I stopped watching after episode five and it's been a struggle to get this far. The only reason I'm continuing to watch is because seven of nine just appeared and I have to say Jeri Ryan only gets better looking with age. She looks absolutely fantastic and after 20 years has barely aged a day even though her character's look is rather gritty compared to her former appearance, but she's still beautiful and sexy.
She's about the best thing I can say so far about this series. I don't understand how such A HORRIBLE series could actually be made but as a serious Star wars fan and strong Star Trek fan, I'm noticing a bizarre pattern here. It's as though these studios and directors are purposely going Out of their way to destroy these beloved franchises!
you have JJ Abrams who comes in and remakes Star Trek back in 2009 that completely changes the size and of course the entire galaxy by using the age-old retarded time travel trick because all these directors really care about is making their own mark on something and they have no concern whether it's good or bad. They simply want to make something their own that they don't give a dam about what the fans want or care about nor what any other director has done before, nor about keeping any kind of continuity. It's all about leaving their own mark on something regardless of the backlash.
Then you have Disney buying Star wars from Lucas and again JJ Abrams takes the helm for the force awakens which is soon as I heard that he was directing I KNEW he was going to do the same thing here did to Star Trek and he's going to completely alter the feel, the science, the characters and the way the entire universe works.. And he did.
Then you have Ryan Johnson who comes in and COMPLETELY Nukes everything that was Star Wars by killing Luke, Ackbar, and all the other God AWFUL things he did in that movie, then Abrams along with the completely incompetent Kathleen Kennedy comes back and puts the nails in the coffin that was the most beloved and profitable movie franchise in history in just a few years.
Now we have Star Trek Discovery and Picard and ONCE AGAIN the pattern repeats itself and they have COMPLETELY altered and destroyed everything that was Star Trek. EVERYTHING is completely different from the entire universe Galaxy itself, the way the ships and technology looks and works, the special effects though impressive LOOKING are somehow devoid of any real feel or depth. It's as though the entire show is one big hologram. Even the Borg cube is completely different.. And that stupid scene where the guy and girl are sliding down the metal deck in their socks... What are they 4 years old? How stupid and ridiculous!
I'm shocked that Johnathan Frakes is directing this but just like Abrams destroying Star Trek and Star Wars with Kennedy, these writers and directories are now doing the EXACT same thing to Picard!
Something must be going on because there is DEFINITELY a pattern here. Hollywood just plain sucks and this is why Sean Connery when asked why he doesn't act anymore said that it's because there is no one in Hollywood who knows how to make movies anymore and the directors are just terrible.
It seems that anything that once gave people hope and joy and the promise of a better tomorrow is being systematically destroyed on purpose. It can't be coincidental that all these series are being changed Soo much from they're original successful formats that worked for DECADES as it's almost inconceivable that nearly every writer, director, creative consultant etc could actually be this incompetent, out of touch with the plethora of source material they have, and so unable to follow the successful formats unless it's being done on purpose for some reason.
Picard is only a shell of his former self and ass with every other TV show and movie made today, the ONLY thing that seems to matter is pushing their endless SJW agendas, having ridiculously and unrealistic alpha Female characters galore and almost all beta males. You can CLEARLY SEE the feminist influence in this as it's all about forcing down the patriarchy of the white male represented by Picard's character and having the women be the leaders, thinkers, problem solvers and always out fighting, out thinking the males. Even in TNG almost every admiral was female or the head of every major division was a woman. It was already annoying then, now this and everything else makes Star Trek Picard just Trash and completely unwatchable to me
Summary: Another SciFi franchise destroyed, just disgusting.
Enterprise: Daedalus (2005)
Dull and boring useless episode.
Others have already mentioned the basic plot of this episode, and you've likely already seen it so I won't go into it again.
This is one of the most boring and ridiculous episodes of the entire show. I tape and the shows on my DVR regularly on H&I and everytime this episode comes up, I just delete it right away which I don't do with any of the other episodes.. Oh.. Other than the HORRIBLE series finale that is. What an absolutely horrible way to end the show. There was a lot of lazy writing in this series it seems and to a lesser degree, Voyager to.
What really aggravated me about Archer was that he was quite mentally unstable. I don't know WHOSE idea it was too play the character that way. Was that the way the character was written..? If so then it was terrible writing. But I'm much more inclined to believe that this is simply how Bakula chose to play the character, for he and God only knows what reasons. Regardless, the result is that I believe most Star trek fans are in agreement that Archer was the WORST Star Trek Captain of them all!
And I don't just mean so the leading captains of the series, but any Captain in Star Fleet period. He should have never even made it to ensign with his terrible attitude, being Soo QUICK to anger, quick to raise his voice, right away getting it your face all the time, being constantly belligerent, arrogant, argumentative, selfish and always more concerned with being in control and getting his way than anything else.
The only time it was good that he had those traits was against the Xindi where those traits helped them to perservere and get the job done. Otherwise, he can barely go back and forth in any conversation two or three times before he starts to raise his voice, get an attitude, run up in your face and act like he's so tough.
Such traits are very unbecoming of a Star fleet officer let alone a captain and ass someone else said, I don't know how he remained in Star fleet as long as he did.
It brings back something that Janeway once said when she first encountered the Borg I believe it was. She was talking about Kirk and how things were back in those days. She mentioned how their ships were twice and fast as they were in Kirk's time, said some other comment and then said that the whole lot of them would have been kicked out of Star Fleet if they acted that way today. I guess this is an indication that in the early days of Star Fleet and the federation, they had to be far more tolerant and let people get away with much more than they ever would later on, probably because people weren't exactly clamoring to join you at that time and even once the federation got going and started exploring the Galaxy, they needed everyone they could get.
Still, Kirk could be just as tough, strong and determined when needed but he was far more mature, in control and could hold a Civil conversation as the norm, something that Archer only seems to be able to do when he's watching his water polo lol.
Supergirl: Falling (2016)
One of the BEST SUPERHERO episodes ever!
If you like Supergirl, this is a must see episode. Wow did they nail this one dead on IMO! The story, action, acting and especially the music was Awesome and dead on Target in this one as it TOTALLY reinforced the serious and deadly danger that a dark Kryptonian possess. It was almost like a John Williams score it so perfectly captured the emotions, danger and seriousness of the situation at each point in the show.
This show was much better before it went to the CW and when Cat Grant (Calista Flockheart) was on the show to and this episode clearly shows why.
Today is 3/15/20 and this is STILL the best episode of Supergirl and all my friends and even some of their parents who aren't even into the show that much agreed after watching it. A couple of them were even moved to tears including his father and mother after seeing this one.
I was not really familiar with Melissa Benoists acting into this show but wow.. She should have won a golden globe or something for this performance. She TOTALLY made you feel for Cara both in her regret after getting the red kryptonite removed and before while she was expressing all of her hurt, anger, jealousy etc at Alex, then when she so I'll just how much four words were hurting Alex she even turned on a bullies mindset and begin to mock and make fun of Alex's pain. Melissa captured this so perfectly and it was never seen before until this episode that like Christopher Reeves unbeatable performance in the original Superman movies, you almost thought you were looking at two different actors play two different aspects of the same character instead of the same actor.
The gradual progression of the influence of the red kryptonite on Cara where she goes from being slightly defiant to getting more and more impetuous and impatient and then to open defiance against the DEO Alex and everyone else as well as her growing ego, vanity, megalomania and to an open god complex seeking worship, even stating that nothing in the world can stop her was absolutely fantastic to watch. She even confronted Cat Grant and threw her off her 40th story balcony after Cat saw video of her letting an alien criminal go, and flew down and caught her just a few feet before she slammed into the ground and hinted she would kill her next time she summoned her again.
Then seeing cat Grant going on air and having no choice but to censure Supergirl and warn the city and the country about the danger she has become, was also extremely heart-wrenching and powerful to watch again with that fantastic musical score the background truly showing how difficult it was for cat Grant to do this to Supergirl.
One of the best things about this episode was also where Cara ended up going to a bar when she took the bar nuts, spread them out onto the bar top and started flickng them like bullets at the alcohol bottles on the shelves behind the bar breaking one after another. This was done as a special tribute and nod to Christopher Reeves exact same scene in Superman III where he was also infected by synthetic kryptonite and turned into a dark and evil character. This was really great to see then take that entire scene and copy it out of respect for what Christopher Reeves started because we're not for those successful Superman movies from the 70s and early 80s we would not have the string of superhero movies we've had for the last 20+ years now because those were the first comic book movies that were so super successful.
Cara's defiance finally culminated in her going on a city wide rampage and openly going against her sister and attacking her and the other DEO agents and even breaking Alex's arm in the process as Alex was going to shoot her with a kryptonite gun. Then just as Supergirl was charging up her heat vision to kill Alex , Hank Henshaw as Martian manhunter tackled Supergirl just in the nick of time or Alex would have been burned to a crisp.
They finally were able to use a weapon to extract the red kryptonite from Cara's body and took her to the DEO to recharge under the yellow sun lamps they have specifically for Supergirl.
But once Cara woke up and immediately realized what happened.. Her remorse was incredible deep and palpable. This is especially true when she saw Alex's broken arm in a cast and completely broke down openly crying and felt instant horror and regret beyond belief of what she had done and said and how close she came to actually killing Alex in the process and hurt so many other people to. This was one of the best scenes of acting I've ever seen on any TV show and this particular episode was even better than any of the episodes in Smallville where Clark turn to evil under the red kryptonite, and those episodes were also very very well done but this episode of Supergirl was even better and I'm a bigger fan of Smallville then I am of Supergirl.
Then the end scene where she went back to Cat Grant and try to make amends, apologizing to her and getting more words of wisdom from Cat was very powerful and deep and again, that awesome music underscoring the dead seriousness and tone of the episode with Cara fearing she's lost everyone's trust she worked so hard to build up. Her actions also changed her relationship with Jimmy Olsen forever as well with new Revelations and repercussions.. But I won't reveal everything here.
After Cara and Kat were done talking Cara asked if she can just stand there for a while on the balcony looking at the city to which Kat permits. A good 20 seconds or so passes with that incredible music playing as not another word is spoken an incredible weight of guilt and responsibility that car is feeling is clearly evident and she stares out over the city trying to fathom what it is that she has done to both the people she knows personally and the city and the world At Large by her actions.
This is just the perfect way to end a powerful episode as so often times the emotional power that even a good episode builds up is often cut short at the end and there is a quick drop off and let down which is emotionally and mentally annoying. I personally always hated what shows do that and was so glad to see that this one didn't follow suit. It reminded me of the original Star trek the next generation episode where they first encounter the Borg and were completely overwhelmed by both the power and seriousness that such an enemy represented. Even after the Enterprise was nearly destroyed the episode spent several minutes exploring the seriousness of it in a very somber scene between Captain Picard and guinan as they discuss the incredible ramifications both present and future that's such an enemy represented. The character dining played by Whoopi Goldberg then said softly "since they're aware of your existence..." Captain Picard shoulders suddenly slumped and he said in shock and surprise "They will be coming"
This episode and the others like it in the next generation that had to do with the Borg, are considered some of the best of all Star trek episodes of all series and some of the best in sci-fi history precisely because they followed a similar format with a powerful enemy, powerful music and overall dark and serious theme that are heroes may not be able to defeat.
This episode of Supergirl is right up there with those and possibly even better because again we take our righteous superhero who is unwillingly turn to the dark side and feels such incredible horror and regret and remorse that it comes right off the screen at you and hits you personally in so many ways.
Even if you're not a fan of the show overall this episode is still a must see for as mentioned, others were also moved but this episode even though they didn't want the show regularly. I've watched this episode over and over and always do wherever I need something awesome and deep and powerful to watch. I hope others enjoy it as much as I do.
Arrow (2012)
Great start, slower ending
The show started out great in the first couple of seasons then as others have said, it dropped off for 3 and 4 and was up and down after that.
Steven Amell did a great job as the arrow and very convincing in his fight and action scenes. He is very athletic and fast with good skills for a martial arts actor. He really pulls off the fight scenes very well and it's probably the most realistic and serious I've seen in a TV that I can recall.
I agree with other reviews that it was better when the team was smaller. Though I grew to like some of the additional characters it was still better when it was just Oliver, Diggle, Felicity and maybe Roy.
I don't like how the super hero billionaires seem to keep losing their money all the time though as the same thing happened to Batman in Chris Nolan's version to.. Makes no sense.
I hope Steven gets other work as an action hero or such as he's very realistic, fast, sharp and believable, good job! Overall I'll miss the show though but he died a hero, a changed man, fixed so many things and brought back all who died and ended up in another dimension with Felicity in the end. Sad but happy ending overall with hints that there may be more to come.
