RuPaul's Drag Race: Rate-a-Queen (2024)
Not GRAND enough
After season 15 the expectations for the talent shows are high, so I guess a lot of us feel a little disappointed.
The entrances were fine, the banter as well.
The rate-a-queen twist along with the immunity will probably disappear after the two premieres and I kinda doubt that Sapphira will actually need it. So why even include all of this?
The talent show was pretty mediocre. Sapphira was great, funny and smart. But even though I really love Q, it just wasn't really funny to me and I would've prefered Mirage (Choices?), I wasn't living for Dawn or Morphine, I think Amanda was actually better than the two, even though the edit made us believe she bombed. And Xunami was literally just walking.
The rate-a-queen was over in a minute and we didn't even get to see everyone's votes, neither did the judges talk about them or whatever.
Lastly, the runway was a disappointment. Q, Dawn and Mirage served, Sapphira looked unpolished (shock), Morphine had a bathing suit as her big reveal, Xunami looked fine and Amanda... did that...
Overall I am still excited for the season but how can you give us that after the servington that was S15?
Drag Race Germany: Willkommen in Deutschland (2023)
I'm really surprised
I had a lot of thoughts and emotions about Drag Race coming to Germany. Mostly though, I had concerns. But all of that blew away instantly. Not only was the MTQ already a good taste of this season that is probably about to be pretty solid, but this premiere was so much fun.
It was nothing to gag over, but it was so genuine, full of great moments (especially everything involving Barbie Q), the looks were mostly great, the production value, the pacing, the kinda good-kinda messy lipsync...
I just loved it all so much, it was so raw and pure for some reason. Will it be a season to remember? No.
But that's fine, just buckle up for a good time.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Screen Queens (2023)
I'm conflicted
The season had a rough start, but the comedy challenges were both great so far.
For this one, I liked that the girls had full control over their trailers and I enjoyed the workroom stuff and the first 10 minutes were hilarious and shady.
One of the trailers was bad, one was decent and one was actually really funny, however once again the wrong queen won. She wasn't even from the strongest group. This was a Heidi/Lala win for sure. I don't know why they bombard Jimbo with those wins, it's not like she can't snatch the crown without some rigging.
And with such a "meh" cast where half of the girl were early outs I don't think it's a good idea to give the front-runner and fan-favorite so many more reasons to win.
Canada's Drag Race: Bitch Stole My Look (2022)
Hello?
I saw the good ratings and kept wondering what the hell happened in that episode?
Let me tell you.
Giselle's look.
THE DRAMA.
THAT LIPSYNC.
Hello?
RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under: Grand Opening (2022)
Hard to find a flaw
Such an interesting and lovely cast, very excited to see this season play out. We already felt some tensions and good laughs, this episode alone was better than any of s1.
Now, fashion is subjective and I'm just a young gay, so who am I to judge these talented queens. Still, I think the win was a toss up between Molly and Yuri. Yes, Yuri couldn't walk in it, but how many times have queens actually slipped or fallen and it ended up being edited out? I'm sure they saw more potential in Molly so they gave her the win. Although I was sad to see the safe queens range from Minnie's quick drag look to Beverly's stunning homage to Blu's uk plastic runway, it still seemed fair.
The bottom 3 and bottom 2 also made sense in my eyes. Could I've seen someone else there instead of Faux? Yes. But I think it's alright to put two "unpolished" queens into the bottom whose panties are unintentionally showing.
Canada's Drag Race: Ruets (2022)
This was hella fun
One thing I love about Canada's is their unique challenges an this one is no exception.
I thought I'd be a lipsync tournament but I was not disappointed whe I realized that it was a dancing-performance-in-pairs-challenge.
Funny moments, drama, fierceness, this episode felt fresh. I'm not toally sure if I agree with the placements but besides that I had a lot of fun.
The Canada episodes usually get a lot of hate they don't deserve, but I hope this episode will make everyone fall back in love with the franchise.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Lip Sync LaLaPaRuza Smackdown (2022)
Well
The episode was really boring, but I guess if they only planned for these 2 tournaments, it's expected to be an episode filled with Ru's self-promotion, flashbacks and the judge's unfunny moments. The tourments were fine, I think Yvie won against Viv, Jaida or Raja could've won their battle, but the last one Yvie won for sure and it'll be great if she at least got some money this season.
The real tournament however... Jinkx won against Shea who just copied a lot of Gaga's moves. Now Trinity definitely won against Monét in my opinion, but that all doesn't matter since Jinkx would've won regardless, even in a lipsync against Coco, Denali and Kameron.
I love Jinkx and I actually do think she won the lipsync against Monét (from what they decided to show us) but the feeling of "they decided Jinkx to win the season before it even started" never left my mind. So congrats Jinkx, I mean she fully deserves it regardless.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Drag Race Gives Back Variety Extravaganza (2022)
Listen...
10 Stars cuz Monét!
But not them making the challenge worth 3 stars to drag Shea (who flopped almost the entire season in my opinion) to the finale.
Not Michelle saying Shea was her favorite talent this episode while Monét brought us all to tears
And not them giving Shea the lip-sync win as well.
This show really knows how to make their fans angry and make us hate certain queens.
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Santa's School for Girls (2022)
That episode made me gay (as in happy)
It wasn't necessarily a good acting challenge, but I still had so much fun with these girls. This was Raja's episode, she killed. And Viv was amazing as well. The others were all almost on the same level for me, so the High placements also made sense for me. The runway was very cool and creative, but my god Raja!
RuPaul's Drag Race All Stars: Legendary Legend Looks (2022)
Second best episode so far
This episode brought me so much joy, I didn't want it to end.
Design challenges tend to be the more boring ones usually but this one was probably one of the best design challenges in herstory.
So many absolutely stunning looks and the queen that ended up winning the lipsync had the most beautiful look I have ever seen. And even queens who usually fail in these challenges succeeded (one of them was even in my personal Top2)
INCREDIBLE episode! On top of that, ass was being eaten live on stage.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World: Snatch Game: Family Edition (2022)
Why should I keep watching?
I'm not mad at Blu for making a decision. And I'm not bitter about Pangina getting sent home. BUT I'm asking myself why I should still watch this season where everyone except Blu is mediocre at best. The best competitors are gone and the rest of the queens isn't even trying properly. I thought this was going to be better than All Stars 2... boy was I wrong.
Thank you, next!
RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World: RuPaul Ball (2022)
Everything I needed
This episode was so interesting, funny and a mix of everything we haven't seen in a while.
Baga refusing to work, queens being feisty, pure entertainment.
However, the biggest downfall of this whole season it probably the mediocre performance(s) of Juju, Mo, Cheryl Baga and Janey.
Yes, even the winner of this challenge.
The stakes are not high, it feels like some queens don't take this serious which makes me kinda sad. What is going on with Juju? How did Mo end up Low in the ball? How was Baga not in the bottom? How was Blu not praised and how was Pangina&Jimbo not the Top2 (once again)?
Also, seeing Cheryl go was heartbreaking because Juju didn't even really fight to stay and she probably just excepted to be saved by someone because of her big stand in the franchise.
The ball was alright overall, but not the All stars level we expected.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK vs the World: Global Glamazons (2022)
Not sure if it's amazing or just fine
This whole episode went by so fast and it feels like I'm watching one of those Youtuber Fantasy seasons. The cast is out of this world, so it should be a 10/10 right?
For some reason it wasn't.
The queens enter the main stage instead of the workroom...? Sure...
The US girls are shady right from the get go to a point where it feels staged.
Instead of the queens talking about "Omg Pangina you are competing, how do you feel?" or "Jimbo, do you feel like RuPaul will understand your comedy?" or "Juju this is your 4th(5th?) time now, do you think you can bring anything new to the table?", they instead do a tea time and learn some british words... uh sure... Not sure why they did that instead of giving us storylines.
The talent show:
Lemon, rough. Janey, rough. Juju, boring. Baga, funny&wtf. Cheryl, good. Mo, great (unpop. Op?). Blu, original. Pangina, ate. Jimbo, no.
We went back to an old format which is actually nice, the critiques were accurate, the placements were a bit wonky, but overall no tragic choices were made.
The bottom 2 was right and whoever gets sent home is up to the lipsync winner, so I won't comment on if it was the right or wrong choice. Imo Janey deserves the platform and would benefit a lot more from this opportunity. On the other hand I was crushed and heartbroken seeing lemon go home.
TL;DR Stan Pan Pan.
Canada's Drag Race: The Roast of Brooke Lynn Hytes (2021)
You're kidding me!
Hilarious roast by Kendall and my personal favorite Icesis. The others had a few good jokes too, expect for Gia.
Pythia getting a bitter and not confident edit was a shock to me since I saw her as a sweetheart and clear front-runner. But Icesis took over. A lot of confessional time and she felt so good on that stage during the roast that she had no time to even get to the actual main part of the Roast. A crew member even had to tell her to get off the stage because she just couldn't wrap up. The runway was stunning as always in this season, the untucked was a shock because Kimora felt defeated said she wants to quit at the end she lipsynced like a fly around Gia, giving her no space to perform. The judges were confused and the queens at the back of the stage were losing their minds, at the end the judges tell her that it was a big wtf moment for everyone involved. TV GOLD if you ask me, way to go Canada!
Canada's Drag Race: Screech (2021)
I'm GAGGED
At how much better Canada's season is compared to UK3, who would've thought. I knew the trailer didn't promise too much, this season just keeps delivering non-stop!
But let's not compare seasons. This episode was a pure joy.
An amazing script for the acting challenge (finally), great performances on the queen's part. They could've actually put half of the cast as high in my opinion.
Still, the Top 3 was definitely the correct choice without a doubt. So was the bottom placement and the winner.
A lot of queens surprised me with their talent this episode, the runway was fantastic just like the previous two episodes, and the judges critiques were so detailed and actually helpful. It honestly feels like the production sat down, deliberated, listened and took notes on what (not) to do based on the reactions of the fandom towards the first season. They stepped it up big time!
The lipsync was emotional and so was the elimination.
Canada's on a rampage, I hope they can keep this momentum, I'd love to see this season become on of the greatest.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK: The Snatch Game (2021)
This season is...
I read the spoilers before watching the season and I knew this would be the absolute lowest point of the whole season with the elimination we got. After losing so many queens that under other circumstances could've easily been in the Top 3/4, this just was unneccessary in my opinion. It shows me that Ru and the production solely rely on shock factor and unexpected moments, rather than creating a show that showcases talented queens to support queer artists.
Canada's Drag Race: Under the Big Top (2021)
QUESTION!
Are people just giving bad ratings because they are still bitter about Jeffrey and Jimbo?
This episode was just fantastic!
The rusical was ONE of THE BEST I've ever seen. The queens that could sing gave us one of the best performances in Herstory, and those who failed were so bad it was good.
On top of that, we got THE best runway EVER.
Are you kidding me?
Edit: I wrote this before the judges critiques and not giving (a certain queen) the win or at least a high placement was a choice, but ultimately (the winner) was great on both the main stage and on the runway while (a certain queen) wore Violet's ugliest dress from S7.
The lipsync was fierce as well.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK: Draglexa (2021)
A rollercoaster.
As someone who lost all hope in UK3, with the last 3 episodes being very mediocre, I thought this episode gave me just the right amount of everything I needed to get back on track with this season.
The challenge was so messy, but in a good way. It wasn't a complete tragedy, it was just not innovative or creative in any kind of way. I still really enjoyed it, probably for that very reason. And the lack of laughs and the straight faces of the judges cracked me up.
The runway was fine, even though I don't think this category was necessary, it doesn't really differ from "Red carpet show stopper", anyway, the real gag was the no-winner announcement, I died.
The judges were so confused, they had to ask the queens who should go home cuz no one was a stand-out. Thus, building a bottom 3 from the queens responses (otherwise I wouldn't understand why Vanity was low, I think I would have given her the win actually...)
The queens go back to untucked, the shade continues and Scarlett is upset and runs off, then during the lipsync she slays the hell out of Charity, who just previously danced circles around her. Such a shady moment. But Scarlett gave my life with that amazing performance.
This episode was insane, I love Drag Race!
Canada's Drag Race: Lost and Fierce (2021)
SO promising
Honestly, this seaosn will probably get overshadowed by UK3 but I hope everyone will give it a shot sooner or later.
The cast is fantastic, they are all so different, not only speaking of diversity, but of their characteristics, their experience, their backgrounds, their abilities and their aesthetic.
Some parts, I have to criticize, were cut short. Like workroom interactions, untucked, even the runway at some points and something is going on with the camera. Though, I can't exactly figure out what.
All in all the season is so promising. The queens served this episode. It was (almost) the correct Top 3, I really like Kendall and Pythia too and would swap one of them with Suki maybe. But Suki deserved it too under closer inspection of her garment. The bottom 3 was right as well, though I would have let Eve lipsync against Gia. But I'm not mad at the judges picking Beth, because I feel like she isn't confident enough (yet) and I feel like she wouldn't stay longer than a few episodes either way, probably even go home next week.
Now, the lipsync however... mawma that was garbage. Beth barely moved halfway through and Gia Metric... is known for her lipsyncs... where? What? Did I miss something. Against any other queen she wouldn't have survived. Suuuuch a letdown, but overall I loved the episode and I can't wait to see more of this super talented set of queens!
RuPaul's Drag Race UK: Dragoton (2021)
I don't even know what score to give...
Ok what was that?
The challenge was a hot mess. Garbage even. It could've been great without the dancing, like an hommage to that US season 3 home workout episode that Alexis(?) won. Anyway, what a waste.
First they all danced together, then they showed the first group... and honestly I think all of them were decent with Choriza struggling but hiding it with her character choice. The second group was definitely the best - Krystal outshined everyone with her ridiculous character that you wouldn't expect from her. Kitty, Veronica and River were fun to watch.
But the last group, if felt like I've missed it completely. I blinked once and it was over, how can you even judge that?
The worst part was the end. Like what and why?
Aside from the awful, awful, pointless maxi challenge, the runway was alright, the lipsync was fun (although the bottom 2 was so random but honestly idk who I would've picked. Maybe Victoria but that would be very wrong due to her injury - and Charity cuz she really messed up those steps big time), oh and the mini challenge was weird too... I mean yes Krystal made it even worse with her comments, but like - no matter what, she would've been shady and unlikeable, feels like they did it on purpose to make Krystal look worse, but why? She is a (now) double challenge winner, she should be portrayed as very likeable. Hope she gets an A'Whora like character development.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK: The Return of Royalty (2021)
UGHHH UK did it again!
Living up to a legendary season like UK2 is hard, impossible even.
But this premiere did not disappoint.
Fierce, talented and charismatic queens.
Great personalities, great first episode, starting the season off strong.
The decisions made by the judges were mostly right. (Maybe Scarlett could've been swapped out with one of the safe queens)
The Lipsyncs were so good. Krystal gave us a little sip of broadway and Elektra Fence... my god... slayed the stage down!
I'm so excited for this season!
RuPaul's Drag Race Down Under: G'day G'day G'day (2021)
Just like watching an old Drag Race season!
Not sure if this is caused by Season 13 being such a mess, but I really loved this premiere for many reasons.
1. It seems like a great mix of queens. Everyone is different, likeable, interesting. A whole lot of camp, humor and elegance.
2. There are already great storylines and it seems like they will be important (unlike f.e. Rosé vs. Olivia or Rosé vs. Tina). We have Elektra Shock being underrated, but winning the mini challenge AND lipsyncing the house DOWN!
Also, Anita vs. Kita could be a really interesting story to witness. With Elektra being their employee, I can't wait to see if one of her bosses actually goes home before her.
3. The episodes are short, so it's filled with fast-paced content, which I think is a great change of events. Everyone was sick of Season 13 for going on for 4 months, so here's the short season you all were waiting for.
4. The budget isn't there, yes... but is that bad? Watching Down Under, it felt like I was back in 2013, but in the best way possible. Just drag, drama and fierce queens, isn't that was the show is about? Trust me, it's nothing like Holland! (God bless)
5. The runway was great. For me, it was the wrong winner this episode, but I think the winner deserved it too. The lipsync was everything.
SUMMARY: It's good!
RuPaul's Drag Race: Henny, I Shrunk The Drag Queens! (2021)
This was... something...
I'm not too sure about my rating for this episode, but with the amount of hate this season gets, I think bumping up the score isn't wrong.
Let's make this quick:
Pros:
- The queens made the best out of the materials they got in the main challenge
- Great workroom interactions
- The right queen won
Cons:
- No puppet mini challenge
- Awful writing in the main challenge
- No surprises, since the top 3 is clear and the other two lipsynced
- Bad runway, in my opinion, I didn't like a single look
- I thought Olivia won the lipsync, but it really doesn't matter at this point
- Olivia's edit was unnecessary, she's a great queen
- Kandy was critiqued for playing herself in the challenge (again), but Symone wasn't critiqued for playing the same character once again.
RuPaul's Drag Race: Nice Girls Roast (2021)
Finally a good episode!
After having a handful of awful episodes this season, this one right here is finally getting close to the standard drag race niveau we know and love. It's clear as day that the writing in this season is at the show's lowest state, that's why the best episodes are the ones where the queens have to come up with verses, routines and/or have to be funny (Phenomenon, Snatch game, Roast).
Great episode, it made me laugh a lot. If you don't agree with the winner, you're delusional and just love to hate. Kandy was hilarious and so were the other 3 queens that weren't in the bottom.
The mini-challenge, the workroom stuff and the lipsync was great too. Honestly, this episode gave me hope for the next season and the finale.
RuPaul's Drag Race UK: Grand Finale (2021)
Could've been a 10/10 season
Perfect seasons don't exist anymore and this right here is the perfect example.
I loved every single episode, fantastic cast, great challenges, talent, looks, charisma, natural storylines. Everything.
But, after all that praise, I just can't give this finale any other score. It feels wrong, incomplete, devistating. It still feels unreal that the contestant with the best track record, the most wins, the best performancing skills, the most growth, the best story line, the biggest comeback and the most fan support didn't win, after proving that they deserve the crown and their own digital series with their snatch game, acting and stand-up comedy win.
Generally speaking, the biggest riggory since Shangela on AS3
