Dredd (2012)
Eh it's ok, don't believe the fan boy hype
Watching this for the first time in 2024, it's just ok. Certainly not as good as the slew of 10/10 ratings make it out to be. Seems that people might be overrating this movie based on how bad Judge Dredd (1995) was. I never saw that movie or read the comic this was based on. I knew very little going into this movie and had no expectations.
Now, I get that it came out 12 yrs ago but the visuals felt VERY dated. Some of the slow motion shots were kinda cool but were way overused by the end of the movie. The story was super basic, which is fine, it is an action movie after all. But it just felt like wave after wave after wave of death and destruction and then the movie just kinda ends. Felt pretty pointless. Every single character, except for maybe Anderson, was one dimensional. It was hard to care about anything that was happening. So much gore, like more than the original RoboCop, which is saying something.
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Save your time, skip this "classic"
I just finished watching The Last House on the Left for the first time and I have some thoughts. Now, I love films from all genres and all decades, even going back to the silent film era. I knew going in that this would be low budget and considered "groundbreaking" for its time. I tried very hard to find some enjoyment, or at the very least, some sort of appreciation for it, I really truly did. Spoiler, it's a serious contender for one of the worst films I've seen in my life. It makes The Room look like Gone With the Wind. I'm pretty sure I unlocked an achievement just by finishing it. I felt like Alex from A Clockwork Orange with my eyelids forced open and watching this as my torture. Calling this a B Movie would be too much of a compliment, it's clearly an F.
Go watch literally anything else instead. I'm rating this as a 2. Peace.
