Vice (I) (2018)
9/10
Important, entertaining, and quite surprising
29 February 2020
McKay shines when he tackles real world issues and people. Vice shows the degradation of American politics through the lens of a single person, and it tells the complete story in a way one wouldn't think possible with such a myopic scope.

Every part of the last 50 years is covered here, from Nixon through Trump, and as you watch Cheney continue pushing and pulling at every loose thread of decency you get a sense of exactly why we are where we are today.

I really can't understand why a conservative wouldn't enjoy this movie, it is hilarious and the facts are not even remotely disputable. All of this happened before our eyes in real-time, it's only when a talented filmmaker tells the story that it appears too extreme to be real.

Not only was this real, it was likely much uglier than portrayed in this playful and endlessly hilarious biopic.

The Holiday (2006)
10/10
This goes next to 'The Princess Bride' on my shelf. This is a CLASSIC.

Feelgood movies that aren't painfully saccharine are extremely rare. This film gets it exactly right.

It is almost jarring in its innocence. One can't help but fall in love with every single person on the screen, including and especially the 80+ year old Hollywood veteran character.

Everything and everyone in this movie moves like music. I don't think this is accidental as a lot of the movie deals with film composing and scoring, and the score here is gorgeous. It is definitely overblown, but it's done intentionally to make you really swell up in those moments.

I could ramble about this movie for hours. It makes me cry multiple times each viewing and I grow fonder of it every time.

This is a film I will share with my kids someday.

Barely feels like Lupin III due to bland villains and annoying protagonists
10 February 2020
I love Lupin III and have seen almost all of the movies and series up until this newest iteration but this is by far my least favorite of any.

Taking a movie about Fujiko and turning into a sob story centered around an annoying child (who does not stop whining or crying throughout the entire show) is a crime against humanity all by itself, but the fact that they gave her a villain that belongs in Naruto is even worse.

The vibe and voice of Lupin III has been consistently great for so long, I guess it was about time they swung and missed.
