Laughter and tears
7 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What a great send off. I binged the whole series and you get to know the characters, and love some, hate some. I get emotional at stuff, and have tears in my eyes. I'm a 58 year old guy. It was great to see some of the old characters that we lost after series 5. I was kind of hoping that Piper ended up with Zelda. I loved most of the series, although I found series 4 heavy going. It's weird, I didn't cry at the deaths of characters, but because the whole of the series came to end. Loved Suzzane, what an amazing characters. It was also good finding out what happened to characters who made it out..

Intriguing ScFi drama

Warning: Spoilers
I hadn't even heard of this before. I had just watched another film, and this was the 3rd on the list of new films. It sounded Interesting. So 3 amateur (or are they)astronomers find an anomaly is space that could be a UFO. That's the basic plot. If your hoping for an all guns blazing film, this isn't for you. There are only 3 characters in the movie until the end when we see 1 more person. The film goes at a pedestrian pace, the 3 characters are I guess what some would call geeks, and initially the film introduces u# to each of the 3 characters as they are playing around with telescopes, laptops and radios. While doing this, they discover an anomaly in the sky, uncertain what is, they do various stuff to try and find out what it is. Is it a UFO? Is it new life? It's turns out it's the size of a football pitch, and would go unnoticed by the big telescopes. The ending is a race against time as they discover their power is going and they may lose all the data they have. Do they save their data. Do they discover what it is. Give it a watch and see The fact that the film had hardly any budget and centres around 3 guys primarily in one place shows what can be achieved with love and perseverance. I could Imagine a Hollywood remake, ending up like Close Encounters, but you don't need that. If nothing else, it kept the wife off her IPad for a couple of hours, so it must have something going for it.

Do you believe
14 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not really religious although I was brought up as a Christian so watched this with an open mind. If there is a God or Allah or whoever you believe in, be afraid. Those waiting for the second coming need to hope it doesn't happen. I guess people know the premise of this show already. A man is made into a Messiah figure after he prevents major deaths and gathers a following he walks to Israel. Initially the followers are Muslim, and the men joke about why would a women be sat with him, but that is made clear doesn't believe in that. He saves a girl and a church which is the only thing that stands in the town after a whirlwind. We see the supposedly miracles, the walking on water, the bringing back to life of a child who has been shot. He preaches peace but creates cahos Is he or isn't he? You get the politics of Israel and the US, the Christian Evangelists and The CIA and Israelie secret services. We see how young Muslims are fed hate by preachers, making them into bombers. Everyone wants something different from him, some want him silenced, some wan him dead, some believe. The series is thought provoking

The ending give us an opening for a second series.

I guess the meaning of series is that world peace is unobtainable because different religions and nations can never agree what they want out of the world. For every good there's a bad, for every peace loving person there's a murderous extremist.

Pulp fiction less the genius
1 October 2018
Reminded me of a Tarantino film. It tells the story of small time criminals who get involved in a kidnap/murder/organ theft from the various sides, all leading up to bloody finallie. Wouldn't go out to see it at the cinema, but if you catch it on TV, it's worth a watch

Not the greatest Horror film in the world
18 July 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I went into this, knowing the rave reviews, and it was supposedly the new thing in horror, but had no,idea what it was about. It starts with death notice and I'm thinking Old lady haunts family? Nope. Then the young girl starts hearing voices so I'm thinking again haunting. Kid get head chopped off, so back to square one. The mother then meets a "random" lady outside a grief counciling meeting, then on another "random" meet in a car park she tells the mother that she's now a medium and can help her get in touch with her dead daughter. Turns out random lady knew her mother and both were witches. Then we get stuff moving on it's own, people getting set on fire, the mothers body ending up in the attic, people on the ceiling and the son being pronounced the devil, by head less bodies. At least that what I think happened. Still not sure

So top horror films are still Exorcist Evil Dead Carrie The Omen Halloween

This isn't one of them

WTF did I just watch
7 June 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I had seen a little trailer and thought it was a supernatural horror.! In a way it is, but not what I was thinking. Sat through 2 hours and after the film, both me and the wife looked at each other in disbelief. Came on here and saw that it's a modern take on God, creation, Adam and Eve. Would I have known what it was about otherwise? No. We were thinking Sixth Sense where one is a ghost.

No wow factor
4 April 2018
The previous 2 films I have seen was Black Panther and Red Sparrow. Both left me leaving the cinema thinking that was good or wow, I didn't see that coming. This film did nothing. I sat there expecting to really be entertained. I wasn't. I didn't laugh, cry or was bothered about what happened to any of the characters. Half of it is like watching a video game, a dull one at that.

Grown Ups (I) (2010)

Better than expected
27 August 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Me and the wife tend to go a late night show normally on Friday night. Because we go for the late show choice is usually limited to 2 or 3 films. This week we had Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, The Girl who played with fire, and Grown Ups. We chose grown ups not really know what to expect. Plot is basically basketball coach wins the league with some kids. 30 years later coach dies and his team of kids now grown and with families first come together first for the funeral and then for a couple of days get-together, and in the all bond. The comedy isn't subtle with fart jokes and 4 year old boys being breast fed, but its funny. There are some great one liners and a few laugh out loud bits. Its not going to win any Oscars but it kept us entertained for an hour and half

The Wild (2006)

Enjoyable Animated Romp
13 July 2006
I saw this film prior to seeing Madagascar and Over the Hedge, so my view may be a little tainted. The basis of the film is Lion cub runs away from the zoo, because he wants to go to the 'Wild' where he believes his father grew up, and the attempts of his father and friends to rescue him. Although not the main character, the star of the show is Eddie Izard, playing Nigel, The cute Koala bear who has some the best lines in the film. Some younger children may not get some of the adult themed innuendos in the film, but out 10 year old granddaughter seemed to get most things. Also watch out for then Penguins who act like a British Escape Party in a WW2 film. Its an enjoyable hour and a half of fun which is more than I can say for the other 2 mentioned here
