White Gold (2017–2019)
9/10
funny and very telling
27 March 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Apart from being super funny, White Gold paints a remarkably accurate of picture of the sales industry, including the people in it........their ambitions, their trails & tribulations, their highs & lows, etc

Sales people always want to sell the next best thing, and that which they can make the most money out of. And in it's time, double glazing was certainly that - and hence "white Gold". It was like the modern day gold rush! It literally revolutionised the industry!

Vincent swan and his team are reaping the rewards selling windows, driving fast cars etc. But then one day, they bump into some rivals in the area, who are doing very well selling adverting space. Vincent is jealous, for this is a different kind of commodity, one that is less tangible, where there is more room to be creative, and ultimately - make more money! Double glazing is no longer the next best thing, but it's what he knows, so he continues to sell, and the series chronicles his highs & lows. But by the end, he moves his family abroad, to start selling the ultimate intangible and high ticket asset - time shares!

Many Sales people will be able to relate to Vincent's story and tho they might start selling used cars & double glazing etc, i've heard that there is a sort of pilgrimage to their career. They all want to eventually sell the high ticket &/or more intangible items, because there is more money to be made! - so software is another favourite. And ultimately, the pinnacle of all big ticket items are submarines and even...... nuclear weapons. For can you imagine.......selling to a government or an army for example?...... think of all the checks & balances?! But once you've sold just one - your work is done. And stakes will be heightened to the stratosphere, because you're selling something so lethal, that it could quite literally wipe out a whole nation state.

Anyway I digress, but I do think the journey Vincent swan and his team go on, selling everything at all cost, is inextricably linked to the show's humour. It's all about their struggle and one-upmanship, which land them in the most funny circumstances.
