The Gift of Peace (2022)
The most meaningful Hallmark film to date
What a refreshing change for Hallmark! A faith and value based Christmas film that portrays faith in a respectful way and captures the real spirit of Christmas. Romantic comedies are fine and have their place, but this was so much more. My husband and I were impressed and somewhat surprised with this level of depth in a Hallmark film, as we have watched them on and off for the last 20 years. The actors are engaging, and the characters and plot are believable. Prayer is often difficult to depict respectfully in film, but Hallmark managed to pull it off. This is the first time we have both become emotional in a Hallmark movie. Nothing is perfect, and there are a few flaws, but we gave it a 9.5 and rounded it up to 10! Hallmark, thank you for this uplifting addition to our Christmas season. Please offer more like it!
Dopesick (2021)
Important docu-series, but flawed
I don't think most people are aware of the major influence that the pharma industry and their lobbyists have on our government and on our nation, but this series really brought it to the forefront. The acting was first-rate, but the constant movement in time became confusing. Presenting it chronologically would have been preferable.
One ironic scene was the very last in which Bridget visited the two US Attorneys. She brought sparkling cider because the attorneys didn't drink alcohol (another addicting substance), but she made sure she mocked them for it.
