Our Flag Means Death: A Damned Man (2022)
Finding your sealegs when run aground
Steve manages to fail at the most basic aspect of piracy in this episode, which should be, y'know, just keeping the boat afloat. In water. But once that pesky business is out of the way, he's learning more about himself and working with his crew (while narrowly avoiding death multiple times). The introduction of Blackbeard's crew to the scene really begins the escalation of Stede's crew towards their crash into Blackbeard's, and sets things properly in motion.
Some favorite moments of this episode included the run in with the native population of the island, who put Stede and Pete in their place quite quickly, and when Lucius discovers Jim's secret.
Our Flag Means Death: Pilot (2022)
A workplace comedy on the high seas
If you love fish out of water comedies, meet Stede Bonnet, played by Rhys Darby, your new favorite romantic lead.
This show is silly and delightful And covers a whole range of emotions and I highly recommend watching all of it, but this episode focuses on and perfects the dynamic of this wild little disjointed crew and sets sail.
My favorites moments from the episode include Lucius' entire vibes, the crew weighing the worth of mutinying to get a better captain against losing well read bedtime stories and the phenomenal mayhem of the tea party that leads to accidental murder. Can only highly recommend this show.
