American Horror Story: Thank You For Your Service (2022)
Cruising meets 8mm
Having watched the 2nd episode both so far have been straight rip offs of the movies 8mm and the controversial 80s movie Cruising starring Al Pacino. I think Ryan Murphys ideas are running out. What started as something unique and creepy is now generic and reductive. In a positive note this isn't a camp as the majority of the previous seasons have been. The art direction is always spot on as usual. I just wish they would do more original story's that are actually creepy. Hopefully the season picks up in the latter episodes but right now it's more Netflix true crime story than American horror story.
AJ and the Queen (2020)
Got off to a shaky start, but funny, bittersweet and heartwarming
I'm a big fan of drag race and was excited to see this, I didn't even know Ru had made a series and from the trailer this looked like a lot of fun. After watching the first episode I was a little disappointed (don't let the muddled first ep put you off) but things look up and get a better from the 2nd episode on out. After binging the whole series this weekend, I laughed, I cringed and I cried. Yes it may not be Oscar worthy but it is a fun show, with loads of your favourite queens from drag race, and stand out performances from the little girl who plays AJ and Ruby's blind friend Louis. I look forward to series 2 if there is one. Go into this for lighthearted fun and bittersweet moments.
Sex and the City 2 (2010)
This sequel is what the first movie should have been!
I went into this movie with little hopes, after hearing the critical mauling it had received I thought to myself "oh please.. one of my favourite shows of all time.. don't be a big old mess". So I had lowered my expectations and took the movie for what it was.. an all new extra long episode, that I used to look forward to on a Friday night back in the day. I have to admit seeing the first movie I was extremely let down, but after repeated viewings I now appreciate the story it had to tell, our girls are all older now and have new chapters in their lives. And I must admit I was hooked, it had all the same sparkle the show had when It first aired, the cast all accounted for done an amazing job with what they had to work with. Samantha again stole the show with her nympho quips and one liners, Charlotte played up her "pookeepsied herself" joke with an all new set of embarrassments, Miranda had lightened up and of course Carrie, is still our Carrie, only she is married and pondering so. You'll laugh, you cheer, you'll cry... Sex and the City.. how i have missed you! Don't believe the negative reviews and critic bashing.. go with an open mind. BIG THUMBS UP!!
The Last House on the Left (2009)
Fantastic Thriller, Well Acted with Unbearable Suspense.
What I took into Last House 09 was what I knew about the original (by the way i have the original movie on DVD and it has been sitting there unwatched for a few years), and I must admit it's definitely a quality movie, great acting, wrought tension and great scares, i must say there were times I was hiding behind my hands because it was so suspenseful.
It is also beautifully shot and looks amazing, Dennis Iliadis direction is superb and he gets every bit of energy and emotion from all of his cast. The actors are also really well cast, Garett Dillahunt is truly frightening as the movie's main bad guy, Riki Lindholme portrays Sadie with true evil and is very very creepy, Monica Potter and Tony Goldwyn both pull off the typical family putting on a brave face (considering the back story which i'll not spoil for anyone who hasn't seen the movie yet), that are put in a position where they have to do what they can to protect their daughter's life and their own. Sara Paxton and Martha MacIsaac also show that they are capable of a more dramatic element than just a comedy and teen movie fare, that we are used to seeing them in.
The only thing I hated about the movie was the rape scene, the build up was just so intense that I found myself covering my ears so I couldn't hear what was going on, but apart from that go see this movie if you want to see how a remake should be done.
A thought provoking, pulse racing thriller, that will have you on the edge of your seat until the credits roll.
