Vinland Saga: Two Paths (2023)
Season 2, Episode 23
5/10
I'm sorry, but...
12 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
You can't just turn everything super-wholesome in one episode. It doesn't make logical sense, it doesn't make tonal sense, it doesn't make thematic sense, it doesn't make character sense.

First of all Canute just... changing his mind after the discussion with Thorfinn. I simply don't buy it. Nothing Thorfinn said was that groundbreaking. And we barely see Canute struggle with the decision. He just starts laughing and he's all happy and chill and then decides to leave off-screen. Even if this discussion did make him completely change his mind about his entire plan (which I do not get at all)... does he feel 0 guilt about the 100+ people whose deaths he just caused for absolutely nothing? Nope! He just laughs and is apparently good now. Let's ignore the buildup to him as the opposite of Thorfinn. No, I guess they are together in this fight or something, Canute just changed all his beliefs and ideals and plans he's been working on for years because... Thorfinn decided to run away from war? Huh??

And then the exposition dump about him disbanding his armies etc... so naive. Achieving peace is not this easy. And more importantly: it's uninteresting to watch in a show. I want to see characters struggle to achieve what they want. And having peace in the world depicted in Vinland Saga? It's not as easy as just deciding to disband your armies with happy piano music playing in the background! Where do you think all those Vikings are gonna go? Half of them will just become pirates and start raiding anyway, it's not like you have an army to stop them. And you really want me to believe the English lords will just accept your rule now that you don't have the power to back it up? Nonsense.

This whole tonal shift REALLY does not work for me. The way this season concluded felt insanely naive at best and poorly written at worst. Which sucks because I was loving it so far and super interested to see how it turned out. Anyway, I know I'll get unhelpful-ed to oblivion by fans but I just had to get my thoughts out there. Gootbye.

Great as a season finale... unsatisfying as a series finale
30 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I know I'm in the minority here but I expected... more from this? This doesn't really feel like a conclusion in any way other than the superficial plot reasons. I'm somewhat unsatisfied after what was shaping up to be one of the greatest seasons of tv I've ever watched. And if this were just a season finale it'd be a 10/10. But this is... it... forever.

Maybe if they dwelled on it a little longer in the end. Make it feel more final at least instead of a somewhat fast paced montage of whatever they are doing with music playing over it. I don't know. I really don't know. Hopefully it will grow on me.

Westworld: Années Folles (2022)
Season 4, Episode 3
7/10
This certainly was an episode of Westworld season 4
11 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode exists. It was filmed and it stars actors. Things happen in it. It was written and it definetely includes music.

Jokes aside. Aaron Paul continues to give the most boring performance possible with the exception of one intense scene. Characters continue to talk in vague terms for no reason even when it makes little sense in the context. But Bernard finally appears and we get a solid continuation to his s3 storyline. The first scene especially was great and visually stunning. We get the same old Westworld stuff in the new park but it is interesting that they incorporated the host uprising in the game.

P. S. A fly just landed on my screen when writing this reviEw, should i be worried?

A bit too much at points, but they nailed the end
1 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
They just went a bit too far with this one. Almost 2 hours of non-stop action without that much variety creates some disconnect after a while. It should've been shorter or just split into 2 episodes. And yeah, it does feel like they're scared of killing main characters although I'm glad Max survived, it wouldn't fit her arc to kill her.

Also, if they wanted to have the bad guy win, why not just... have him win? Why would you have Eleven and the others defeat him and burn him alive, and then he escapes last second. You want stakes, you want you big bad to remain a massive threat? There are better ways to do it.

The ending was really great and emotional though, I just wonder how they are gonna do a time jump after this cliffhanger.

Bottom tier Gravity Falls
29 June 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's a funny episode especially with Stan's little plotline but it's also like... really weird. Why is ignoring people's free will and using a love potion on them treated as a good thing? Honestly don't know what they were thinking with that one.

They ruined Hopper!
31 May 2022
I'm all for the new more light-hearted vibe but why do some characters act completely unlike themselves? For the kids I can understand but Hopper has suddenly become unrecognizable. A great and serious character has now regressed to the point of acting like a sitcom stereotype and completely contradicting his behavior from S2. What the hell?

lmao
6 May 2022
From the recap at the beginning of the episode I knew this one would piss off fans (not eve I expected a 3.7 average score tho). And I kinda agree. After gaining a lot of steam in the past 2 episodes they decide to focus on the least interesting plotline completely, which is very dissapointing.

But honestly, on its own this story isnt that bad, but it is very basic and generic. Some cool action choreography tho. I am giving it a 6 but it's more of a 5, only gave it a 6 to help raise that cruel average score a bit.

Amazing finale!

I was on the edge of my seat the ENTIRE way though. WOW. I had high expectations from the 9.8 rating on iMDB and it met all of them, but in a very different way than I was expecting. Truly great, can't wait for season 2!

Best one so far
15 April 2022
I really enjoyed this episode so you can imagine my surprise when i saw the average rating.

I have to note that I am not familiar with the storylines of the games, so I understand that people might dislike this as an adaptation and feel like this isn't the show they wanted from a Halo show. But, imo at least, this is a genuinely good episode of tv. The story, characters and world are interesting, and this could evolve into a great show.

It's getting interesting
9 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly i liked episode 1 but i was a bit worried after a mediocre episode 2. But this episode is stronger and you start to see the direction they are going with the story. Unfortunately John doesn't wear his helmet for the entire episode, which is fine because the actor is doing a really good job but it worries me if they intend to continue this trend for the rest of the show. That would be a waste because they have done an excellent job with the Spartan costumes.

Overall, it still has issues and room for improvement but it has potential and if it continues on this quality it will be a solid, or even really good show.

29 March 2022
The visuals and the music in this episode are insane, especially in one scene toward the end. The story is decent and Hondo is pretty fun. I don't know why there are many negative reviews, its better than the average Rebels episode.

Underwhelming and sloppy
5 December 2021
After episodes 3 & 4 I had high hopes for the show, but this is disappointing. Not without it's good elements but there are so many weird choices that are not even executed competently, all the sense of urgency disappears.

REALLY funny but out of character for Annie
28 November 2021
I still enjoy this episode a lot but Annie's motivation for doing a certain thing is completely contrived with how she acted a few episodes ago and there is no reasonable explanation for it.

I doubt this show could have ended differently and been satisfying
22 October 2021
I can only imagine how hard it must be to bring a series like that to a conclusion that feels natural and satisfying. But they did it. I don't think it's perfect, but it is the best possible way to end it and it left me very emotional in the end (also it's INSANELY funny)

Instant classic

Watching this in theaters with my family was one of the best experiences of 2019. It makes me nostalgic to remember how it felt to enjoy good movies on the big screen but thankfully I own the gorgeous 4K Blu ray and I watch it all the time. Must-watch!
