Tell Them You Love Me (2023)
Typical Luis Theroux, documentary - shocking subject, lazy treated.
This documentary is mostly a series of baffling monologues.
We still do not know if the poor guy was assessed by someone else during his apparent college carrier. How did he attended college classes? Are any other professors or colleagues who saw him at that time?
Was Anna Stubblefield mentally stable?
Was she philologically tested during and after the trial?
How can a "respected academic" have sex with a disabled patient?
What did the support assistant do and thought about the state of the patient?
Was anyone else involved in

Unorthodox (2020)
magic, one of the best series I saw in years
A proof that great cinematography can still be done - magic, one of the best series I saw in years. A masterpiece and a real Art Movie.
Based on a true story, the memoir written by Deborah Feldman: The Scandalous Rejection of My Hasidic Roots can be admired both for the novelty - how many movies based on the life in a very strict religious Jewish sect have we seen? and the tale of a universal human life struggle - how can you live in a confined, dictatorial community if you feel you do not fit in?
I was really hooked by the powerful story of personal discovery told with the intensity of a well-paced thriller.
It was acted so well; I have goose bumps every time I think of it. The main actress, Shira Haas conveys a large array of emotions that no many other actresses are able to do. All the other Jewish characters seem to be impersonated by real members of the Satmar community.
The costumes, the direction, everything is so professionally done and linked together in a diamond of a movie. It is backed by Netflix but it is made on a budget which shows that a moving story can be told without the need of big stars and huge production costs.
I have a lot of question in my mind now, such as: why the sects are not subjected to the same rules of sexual equality as the society at large; how can a community separate so much from the society in this century (and middle of New York), but in the end what I will remember the most is the uplifting tale of Esty's breaking free and finding her own way in life.
