The Accomplices?
24 February 2024
I recently purchased a film online called The Accomplices, thinking it was going to be the 1959 film L'inferno Addosso (which translates as Hell Upon Us, at least according to Google translate. I should have paid more attention to my Italian lessons in school).

Instead I received a 1955 film called I Due Compari (The Two Friends although listed as The Accomplices in IMDB).

This did not help with my facebook project of watching all the films listed in Leonard Maltin's classic movie guide in alphabetical order.

I went ahead and watched the film anyway. It is a rather silly "comedy" about a bloke who pretends he is a businessman so his daughter, who he has sent to a classy boarding school, won't know he is actually a peddler of useless pens in the streets of Rome with his friend.

The story was mildly amusing at time but at others just annoying. This might be partially explained by the quality of the translation which was really. Really really, bad. Even someone like myself who has very rudimentary Italian reading skills could see how horrid it was.

Conspiracy (1930)
Available on Youtube

I just wanted to add to herzogvon's post...about 16 years later! He urges people to see the film but says it it hard to come by. Well, Idk if it was on there then, but it is on Youtube now.

It is available on. Robert M. Jenson Vintage Network on Youtube. Or you could simply open Youtube and type in Conspiracy (1930). Either way it should be easy to find.

Personally I found it definitely a curio. I am interested in seeing the original film. And I might recommend my friend who works in amateur theatre that they do a production. I doubt they will take up my suggestion but I can only offer!

The best part about some of these early films is they don't wear out their welcome.

Very good with a beer and a bong.

This is amongst my top ten films ever that didn't feature Ray Dennis Steckler or Arch Hall Jr.

The cast helps. Especially Larry Norman even though he doesn't do much.

Btw if you happen to see this green rabbit I haven't stopped thinking of you even though we haven't spoken for a couple of years. Miss your humour. Hope your cheeky bird is ok. Xi
