Band of Brothers: Bastogne (2001)
Unstoppable Roe
"Bastogne" is where we see the war start to pick up quickly. Watching through the POV of Eugene Roe gives the viewers a unique perspective on the hardships of a combat medic on the field.
We see Roe go through many stages of emotion throughout Easy Company's time in Bastogne. Sticking to his religious morals gives him the push to run into the face of danger. A beautiful side plot with a female nurse as well, acts as a touch of humanity. Roe watches intently for his cue of an injury, and he jumps right in; dodging every obstacle in his way.
We see Roe lose and regain his motivation throughout the episode. He has seen death at his own hands, and it angers him. The need more morphine grows stronger by the second. Such a great detail. He feels the pain of losing a friend, taking Renées blue scarf as a souvenir, but as reality hits him he rips it in half as a bandage. He couldn't waste a resource as a personal object. Very symbolic, and conveys the message of the realities of death and war. There are no happy endings.
The responsibility for life lays heavy on his shoulders and it translates through the screen. There's a feeling of uneasiness knowing the duties that Roe holds upon himself. A quote that lingers with me is "I'm done playing doctor" coming from one medic to another. Roe takes on the responsibility of "playing doctor" with pride, he's far from done. His heart is in it.
Up to this point in the show, Bastogne is the first 10/10 for me, but it just keeps getting better from here. We continue to see the importance of Roe throughout the series.
The Walking Dead: Rest in Peace (2022)
Honestly very Cheesy. 2 Stars are for Rick Grimes!
An underwhelming ending to an amazing show.
Twd had lost its direction quite some time ago, but I really expected the last episode to recapture the flame it once had. Unfortunately I was wrong.
First of all I want to say Angela Kang took over a show that is about death, but is too scared to kill anyone. Twd was so much better when NO ONE was safe. Every character had an equal chance of death (besides Rick of course). We have seen much better finales, even MID season finales that have blown this episode away. Seasons six's "No Way Out" was a masterpiece, and actually focused on the survivors taking back their home rather than just blowing up all the walkers with dynamite in a span of 30 seconds then never talking about it again. The shock factor of the Anderson family's death was immense because we had actually gotten to know their characters.
While Rosita is a great character, her being the main death was underwhelming, but sadly we knew which characters were untouchable due to the plethora of spin offs that no one asked for. Really though, only 3 deaths? And 2 of them were extremely minor characters. Were we supposed to be sad when Luke and Jules died? They could've potentially killed ANYONE. Gabriel, Aaron, Jerry, Lydia, Annie, Eugene? Nope, gotta kill the characters no one cares about, this is true Kang style. The Rosita falling scene was the cheesiest fake-out in TWD history. Glenn's dumpster plot was much more effective and tastefully done.
The scene where Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" plays as they all feast looked like it was pulled straight out of a hallmark movie, and the CGI used on the commonwealth walker mass execution was disappointing to say the least. Daryl's exit was also confusing. I'm a little salty that him and Connie didn't end up together but I digress. On that note there were so many unanswered questions and unresolved plot lines. What happened to the walker that picked up Lydia's knife? Did Annie have her baby? Where's Daryl going? How did Jerry and Elijah make it out like nothing happened? What about the variant walkers? Will the apocalypse ever end? Is Pamela just going to rot in jail? What happened to Oceanside? Where's Maggie and Negan going...and why? Overall, this ending is way too happy for The Walking Dead.
NOW. RICK GRIMES.
As the episode went on, I continued to lose hope for a Rick Grimes cameo, fortunately Kang delivered. Seeing our hero again was the cherry on top of this mediocre episode. Kang delivered a beautiful comeback for Rick and Michonne. I am so excited to see how this will transition to their miniseries. Andrew Lincoln really is the heart of The Walking Dead.
The New Worlds Gonna Need Rick Grimes!
Grown Ups 2 (2013)
The funniest Happy Madison film...
I'm gonna say it. Grown ups 2 is Sandlers best work on the comedy scale.
Never a dull moment with Chris Rock, David Spade, Adam Sandler, and Kevin James on your screen. Grown ups 2 is packed full of Cameos from some of SNL's greatest Alums. I've rewatched this film many times and it never fails to make me laugh. With that being said; this may be the most quotable movie of all time.
With everything from Tim Meadows saying "Whaaaaaatttt?" on multiple occasions, to Stone Cold Steve Austin tormenting Sandler.
Of course this isn't a top notch Oscar worthy flick, it's just a fun watch. Don't bash it til you watch it with an open mind.
Also the final fight is better than Endgame. I said what I said.
Jack and Jill (2011)
Overhated! Actually a very funny film.
Jack and Jill isn't the greatest Happy Madison film, but it's not lacking in comedic moments and hilarious cameos.
Everyone from Norm Macdonald to Bruce Jenner to Al Pacino makes a cameo in this film and it is truly a refreshing surprise.
Jack and Jill has gotten a bad rap for all the years it's been out. I decided to rewatch it recently and I enjoyed it! The dialogue was funny, and of course the jokes were over the top. I don't get why this movie has gotten so much flack.
However I was not expecting David Spade in drag...but I can't complain.
I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997)
The story is nearly impossible to follow.
Overall the movie is decent, average acting, but the characters are barely likable.
Barry is toxic, Julie is cringe, Helen is the average pretty girl trope, and Ray is just...there?
I read the book, watched the movie twice, and STILL didn't get the storyline. WHATS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BENJAMIN WILLIS AND DAVID EGAN?!
I finally figured it out after years of confusion. Not that it matters.
I'll give this movie a 5/10 on the 90s thriller scale. Not a must watch, but if you're bored and want a mediocre fix then go ahead.
The Walking Dead: World Beyond: Brave (2020)
Better than I thought...
I wasn't expecting much from this show, I only watched it to fill the void until The Walking Dead comes back for 11x17 but I was surprised by how intrigued I was. Will I watch the second episode? If I'm bored. Am I excited to see Jadis? Only if she mentions Rick. Am I sick of the grim spin-offs? You bet! Either way, this is a good watch for if you need your walking dead fill.
Hidden Figures (2016)
The Perfect "space" film
It may not be 100% factually accurate but it is VERY well written, and tastefully so.
The film focuses on Katherine Johnson Goble, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughn; 3 brilliant mathematicians who fought their way to success in the 1960's.
The plot develops at a great speed and makes you feel for the characters. The production is great, the performances are great, and Glen Powell is an adorable John Glenn.
You should absolutely watch this film with your family. It's available on Disney Plus as of right now.
Cheaper by the Dozen (2022)
Oh so "WoKe"
First of all this film could've easily been titled "yours mine and ours" there's not even 12 children.
The story is all over the place. The plot is literally about breakfast sauce.
Don't even get me started on the "racial issues" they try to force down your throat. They not so subtly pushed the "police are bad" narrative. Seriously, leave it out of children films!
The movie doesn't even compare to the Steve Martin "Cheaper by the Dozen" franchise, I've watched the first and second films many times and they never fail to make me laugh. Go watch those with your family instead.
Black Widow (2021)
Lost Potential for a long awaited Black Widow Solo Film
I will admit Black Widow is my favorite avenger, so I was pretty disappointed with this film.
It took me 2 months to get through it because I truthfully couldn't watch it in one sitting.
However, I really enjoyed Florence Pughs character "Yelena." and was happy to see her return in the Disney+ "Hawkeye" series.
Sadly, you won't miss much if you skip this movie.
The Middle (2009)
Just perfect
The Middle is everything you want to see in a sitcom. Truly hilarious, but doesn't lack emotional moments.
The Heck's represent the average American family. Perfectly imperfect. You will fall in love with the characters more and more each episode.
Brick is the quirky, intelligent, HILARIOUS younger brother who always has his face in a book.
Eden Sher gives us Sue, who is everything you would want in a daughter. Her optimism will inspire you through the screen, but she isn't always delt the best hand...
Axl is your average teenage boy who complains, walks around in his underwear, and steals your food, yet he still manages to win over the hearts of the audience from time to time.
Mike loves sports, beer, tv and not much else. He's the average dad trope. But he will pull through for his kids...When the colts aren't playing.
And Patricia Heaton gives us Frankie Heck who is hilarious and always STRESSED. She's a working mom who's trying her best (well maybe not her best) to do for family.
And more lovable side characters such as Rusty Heck, Sean Donahue, and many more.
The show is packed full of guest stars such a Brooke Shields, Dick Van Dyke, Chris Kattan, etc..
Binge worthy 10/10.
Jackie (2016)
Missed the mark
"Jackie" is less about Jacqueline Kennedy, and more about JFK's assassination.
This film had SO much potential. First Lady Jackie Kennedy has been described as outspoken, independent, and even mysterious, but we see very little of that. Instead we get to see Jackie grief and plan Kennedy's funeral for nearly 2 hours. The interview sequences are quite bland and while Natalie Portman is a phenomenal actress, her accent and demeanor throughout the film misses the mark.
The music score however is beautiful yet eerie. Keeping you on edge. The lovely costumes look as though they came from Jackie Kennedy herself. Kudos to the costume department, and Mica Levi's score, but overall I'd give this film a 4/10.
The Walking Dead: The Day Will Come When You Won't Be (2016)
Emotional, brutal, bittersweet, beautiful...
"The day will come when you won't be" is truly the turning point of the series.
In my opinion, this was the last episode before The Walking Dead completely changed its dynamic as a series, but what a way to go out.
I have never experienced an episode that quite literally had me in shock and awe. You will be hit with a wave of emotion, nostalgia, and regret watching Negan turn his attention to our beloved Glenn Rhee and Abraham Ford. I have rewatched this episode many times since it's release and I will never forget the feeling of uneasiness I felt the first time. What an experience.
A bitter(sweet) masterpiece. 10/10.
The Walking Dead: Knots Untie (2016)
What?
This episode is the start to the many future companions (and enemies) our group will face.
Jesus gives our group a tour of "The hilltop" colony which will only grow in relevance from here.
We see Maggie start to take on new leadership.
Rick delivers his iconic one liner. (what?)
Lots to love about this episode. 10/10.
