Insert Coin (2020)
The gaming documentary I didn't know I needed!
If you are an 80's kid, you'll love this documentary! Mortal Kombat, Narc, and NBA Jam were staples of our childhood. This film captures the essence of that historic timeframe.
The psychology behind game design is front and center here. Every detail that you wanted to know about Midway, their competition, the games themselves, and so much more is also present in this documentary.
I personally didn't know that there was as much drama and friction inside of the Williams/Bally/Midway collaboration. I'm not sure that some of those guys like each other to this day.
Overall, getting to know the names behind the early movement in the video game industry was the documentary I didn't know I needed!

Experimental Gem
Experimental true storytelling! At first I was concerned about the pacing of this film but that changed about halfway through. There a sense of disturbance that you feel, but you also have an equally strong feeling of relaxation. It's kinda hard to discribe until you watch it.
This indie film draws you into the plight of the central figure who's trying to figure out what happened. There are small clues along the way if you're paying attention.
The sound imaging and sound design are the parts which stand out the most to me. They both become the dialougue for this film and make it stand out. A well thought out experimental gem.
