Chaos (2001)
Provides similarity to Philippine prostitution
En route to a party, Paul (Vincent Lindon) and Helene (Catherine Frot) encounter a speed bump when a woman throws herself in front of their car, begging for help. Having learnt not to pick up hitchhikers, they watch helplessly as she is beaten unconscious by several men.
Helene feels responsible for this stranger, whom she comes to know as Noemie, and spends much time with her at the hospital. But when she discovers that Noemie's life may be in danger, Helene sneaks her out of the hospital posing as a nurse.
Taking her to her mother-in-law's country home to recover, she learns of Noemie's tragic story. Brought to France from Algeria by her father, she chooses a life of prostitution after her dad sold her down the river to an Algerian man.
This movie tells me how prostitution works in France and its similarities in the prostitution that's been happening in our country.
This is a funny and fast-paced movie. I would have enjoyed it more if I can only understand the French language.
Chopin. Pragnienie milosci (2002)
Another movie about a Polish Pianist
The info provided by IMDb and the review of the other person is confusing. I've watched this movie and it is not in Polish. It's in English, and it isn't dubbed. Yes, it is the same movie. The title is the same, the casts are the same, the plot is the same.
This is the second movie I've watched this year about a Polish Pianist. The first one was Roman Polanski's The Pianist (stars Adrien Brody).
The world-renown cellist Yo-Yo Ma, pianists Emanuel Ax, Yokio Yokoyama, and Janusz Olejniczak, and violinists Pamela Frank and Vadim Brodsky use their talents brilliantly to bring Chopin's music to life.
I guess I do enjoy this type of movies. Most would find watching these type of movies boring but I tend to enjoy them. :)
The Pianist (2002)
The one war movie I like
I don't often watch war movies. My dad likes war movies but I don't. I fell asleep when I watched "Saving Private Ryan" at the movie house. But this movie is this different. I watched this on cable. This movie was so interesting that it made me stopped what I was doing and watched it until the very end.
Back at school, we were taught about the second world war but since this is the Philippines, most of it involves the Japanese and the Americans and little about the European nations. With this movie, I was able to know something about the war that had happened in Poland.
My dad didn't like it that much that much though. I think he likes "Schindler's List" better.
Vampire Clan (2002)
Poor Script, Poor Actors, Poor Movie
I'm not sure who to blame in this movie. Could it be the actors? No? Then maybe it's the script writers. Or it could be both. One thing I know is, even if the script are so poorly written, a good actor would be able to portray his role well. I saw so many plot holes and I think they could have thunk a better title for this movie. Vampire Clan? Please, they're not even vampires. They're wannabes. I think they choose this title as to attract fans of the horror genre. But even if you fancy thriller or horror movies, I don't think you'll even like this one. There's nothing horrifying about this movie. Heck, IMDb didn't even bother putting a genre for this movie (as of this writing).
