Probably, the best horror movie in the 21st century
11 June 2023
Knowing th Evil Dead trilogy is a plus to enjoy the movie. The little things such as the chainsaws, the blood, the camera works, the vynils, the book (surprised it wasn't the Necromicon...)

Even so, the movie breeds by itself...

The right equilibrium with gore, tension and deaths. Not knowing till the end who would escape, if anyone.

Horror sequences and effects are awesome. Hard and straight. Not that lame jump scares that we're used to.

Just don't give a 10, because the initial sequence, although fine, doesn't seem to fit in the rest of the movie. Could be a better link in that.

The rest... finally a good old horror movie from Hollywood.

For an History film
1 May 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Would be interesting if were more concern about details. The writer of this film should attend some more history classes before try to do history movies

I'm Portuguese, and the "portuguese" spoken in the movie, is not from any portuguese country that I know. And there is good actors in Portugal, Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Guinea, Bissau, S. Tome and Principe, East Timor and even Macau. But all actors depicted in this movie, are not European Portuguese, not even Brazilian.. And I didn't understood any of the "Portuguese" they spoke. That's awful.

By the way, US was far from even dream to be an independent country. How can be refered "American" some 100 years before American Independence?

If we forget history rubbish, the movie is a good exercise for Viola Davis. Powerful. Great equilibrium as an General, Queen as well as a mother. My 5 stars is for her.

Season 1, Episode 8
10/10
I´ve seen literally thousands of movies
9 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
And series episode's since I've seen this one for the first time, when I was a kid about 10 or 11. Well, just to say that I don't remember about the 3 or 4 movies that I saw last weekend. But I remember this one episode for all my life.

One of the best horror episodes I've ever seen (and Yes, I'am an horror fan). The effects are from the 70s, even so, terryfing with that monster eating and regurgitating people. That half of the episode comented in the 3rd person by Dr. Helena is almost an anthology epic in 10 minutes.

Don't know enough from movie scripts to have sure, but I'd say David Lynch take many notes from this one, to make "Alien" storyline, some 5 years after.

When a picture marks someone for life, that's quality. A rare and deserved 10.

Warning: Spoilers
Yes! Gave it 9. Hard movie this one. Shymalan's movies are famous for their twists. However, this one, have none. Is all about a terryfing concept. Save humanity or the ones we love. Seeing the movie, I don't have any answer. That's what makes this movie so unconfortable. No bad guys. No good guys. All have their reasons! And makes us think what would be our choice in a apocalipthic scenario. Save the world? Save our beloved ones? Condemn everyone? I don't know. Do you?

As for the movie itself, credible play from Dave Bautista. Not easy to level such amount of muscle and sensibility. The tension build up is also fantastic. Decisions have to be made, and the viewer is compeled to take sides. Although uncertain which one to take.

Good visual effects here and there, but the movie lives for his absolute new concept of thinking. Tough one...

Surreal?
21 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This movie is an insult to millions and millions of people nowadays, and through history, that live in miserable and extreme conditions.

We have a fairly confortable house, lots of blankets, clothes, a fireplace, timber, flamable itens, even gas and water running, and go beserk about freezing?

All events and decisions defy simple logic.

Plus, for all we know about the storyline, the events run for a period of some days. Maybe a week, maximum? It's stupid!

Having someone in the group with some degree in healthcare, turns things even more non-sense.

Stanley Kubrik, in his "Shining" must be laughing in his grave about this. John Carpenter surely is having some seizure, to make a movie about true horror in the extreme conditions of the Antartic, and no one was bothered about the cold.

But this group of youngters, managed to go harakiri in a cosy house...

No words for such garbage.

The 3 rating was for the ambiance and soundtrack. Not bad. The rest... you're on your own to see it.

Not a good movie, but not so bad
5 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Don´t know what movies have some users seen to give a 1 rate to this one. Surely it wasn't "Titanic 666" with the same Jamie Bamber. If this was 1, that one must be minus 5 or 6.

It's not a masterpiece like Neil Marshall's "Dog Soldiers" or "The descent", but yet, it's entertaining, with a good pace of action, that keeps the viewer wanting to see the next scene.

Although the story is somewhat predictable, with the usual boring cliché of sacrifying a whole party to save a doomed character, the last scene has a fine tension construction, with the "heroes" having to fight monsters, afghan insurgents and army intelligence at the same time. Claustrophobic at least!

This one is not going to win an Academy Award, but for horror movie fans, is a time well spent.

Could be better
9 July 2022
But not so bad as some reviews points. Too many loose ends asking to be developed. Yet thinking if this is some critic to Italian police. Lots of murders but they´re always one step behind. An interesting movie about globalization.

The worst? It´s almost impossible an italian policeman speaks spannish. And so passive.

The best. The concept. Scary. Indeed. Make us think twice if we should visit Venice.

That's a big point in favour of this movie.

So awful
3 July 2022
That this was the first movie ever that I was hopping every second that the monster killed the main actress.

Annie Hardy is so annoying that is a torture to see her. Better a world full of zombies.

About the movie, could be good, or at least entretaining, but is so, but so stupid and non-sense, that the true horror is wasting an hour and 15 minutes of my life to see it.

Wonder what grade get the screenwriter in history lessons?
13 February 2022
Awful!

Just awful!

Can´t get through 30minutes of film, seeing so much history attrocities.

Crusades behaving like marines in Iraq?

Arrow protection jackets?

T-shirts?

Leather jackets like Neo ou Morpheus in Matrix?

Fantasy cities scenaries?

Sheriff of Nothinghan looks more an CEO than a medieval warrior?

So much rubbish in this film, that's a crime to see it.

Do screenwriter even manage to open a history book to know that english in middle age have the best weapon in the world, known as Longbow?

Crossbows were a common weapon in French army. Not english!

So many mistakes that's painful to see it. Perhaps if this movie was classified as horror movie, i'd give a better review.

Errol Flynn surely will be petrified in his grave if he had seen this nonsense.

Wonder how actors like Jamie Foxx. F Murray Abraham or even Taron Eggerton accepted enter this film.

Awful!

I wonder

Why Thomas Jane didn't won the Oscar with this movie? Brutal performance! Even with a Stephen's King story to garantee a certificate of quality to the movie.

Great social and even philosophical film
27 December 2020
This film is almost an analogy to Noe's Ark, but with much more humans. So, some social thoughts must be put in work to mantain equilibrium. Very interesting picture to see, and think about.

About some (bad) reviews I've seen here, I question if they've read this is an Sci-fi movie? Doesn´t matter if the action is in a train, a submarine, a farm or a spaceship. What matter's is the message. Someday someone is questioning about warp speed in Star Trek's movies, or the Force in Star Wars. Dumb!

And get spooked with footage from this movie. Some 40 years later I've finally get the chance to see the movie. With the fair discount of seeing hundreds of shark movies and sequels, this movie still manages to get some tension. Even if, the best special effect is not show any Piranha at all. Not even a brief glimpse. Just some "shadows" of kids drawings.

Given that, I must say it's an all time masterpice. Make an horror movie with no monster at all. Just tension and acting. Fantastic!

Not a masterpiece of Vietnam War
24 October 2020
Like Platoon or Apocalypse Now, but still a fine movie. I'm not australian, or american, so I'm not an history expert. Till this movie, I didn't even know that Australia participate in this conflict. So, despite some reviewers critics, this movie is a plus, and puts Australia in the map of Vietnam War conflict, till know, totally monopollyzed by the american point of view, in movie perspective.

Concerning the movie, to be honest, I liked very much the pace. Not original, because we've seen such construction on Platoon, or We Were Soldiers, but still make us grab to the screen.

Travis Fimmel didn't loose some Ragnar's cliches, but overall was sober as the commanding officer.

A good war movie to see.

Disturbing? True A slap in the face? True Totally unconfortable? True

To those who see erotism or exploitation in this movie, you've missed totally the point and perhaps should question yourself about some of your ghosts.

This movie is nothing about erotism or sex, but all about parenthood, cultural and religious beliefs, society and integration.

It's about the role that parents have in their children lives. About the pressure and expectations of society. About being a child alone in the world, in one of the most delicated moments of life, and make decisions. Good or bad.

A must see movie to all parents, with open and critic mind. If you can't see beyond the images, walk away from this movie.
