I know the Books, and the stories about Hurin and Gondolin and I'm hooked by the first two episodes. I'm also disgusted and annoyed by these self-proclaimed Tolkien purists and supposed die hard fans, who wont stop telling us everything about the series is bad, just because the dwarf women got no beards, for example. What, by the way, is an invention by the movies. We don't even know if its true, because it only appears in a little joke. So the series gets hated by a bunch of contentious people, whose arguments got nothing to do with the Lore, they stand by, but with the movies, who have taken a lot of liberties for themselves. In not a single world has the series deserved to be treated like that!
The visuals are stunning, the characters likeable and characterised well. Although I was prepared for bad writing none can be found.
We're finally back in middle-earth and can visit places never before seen. It's awe inspiring to finally see those places which were only mentioned in the movies. And I want to see them all.
If you can't bare the thought of this interpretation then don't watch it. You'll always have the books. And series or no series, the books stay the same. The Series won't tarnish it's legacy. And as far as I can tell nothing is tarnished by the series.
