The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: A Midsummer's Nightmare (2006)
Not Suite Life's Best
Even though I love The Suite Life, this was one of my least favorites so far. First we see Zack and Cody with brand new love interests (surprise) in the midst of auditions for A Midsummer's Night Dream at school. Right in the beginning we see Cody about to kiss his girlfriend, Gwen. It seems like the boys have been kissing a lot in the series just for the sake of kissing, and so i was not shocked by this. Of course, Zack also has a crush on a girl named Vanessa. Once the scene ended, Bob had two random and unnecessary lines. Even though I love Bob, I don't want to see his character reduced to a walking one-liner.
Back at the Tipton we see London returning from the Tokyo Tipton, with plans to rearrange the hotel lobby according to Fung-Shui. This idea seemed like a good premise for the episode, but didn't quite live up to expectations. The crazy setting upstaged the characters and everyone seemed awfully uncomfortable. This may have been intended, but it just was difficult too watch them be so unsure of themselves. Luckily there was some humor that made up for this.
Back at school, Zack and Cody are having love troubles. After an unbearably long kiss between Zack and Gwen, Gwen dumps Cody for Zack. Vanessa falls for Cody who still likes Gwen, and Zack is angry with this since he still likes Vanessa. An obvious play on A Midsummer's Night Dream (which is mentioned later by Cody) but since these are 13 year old kids in middle school, the whole idea seemed a little...too old for them. During the performance, Gwen, Vanessa, Zack, Cody, and even Agnes end up getting into a fight with each other over 'who-loves-who.' This whole scene was a little wishy-washy, the lines were pretty random, and the fight was just plain weird.
Luckily, there were three girls in this episode i was impressed with. Gage Golightly played Vanessa, someone who is not just a generic beauty like most girls on TV today. Selena's acting was very believable, and the scene between her and Agnes was hilarious. That brings me to Allie Grant. This was her best acting by far on the Suite Life, and she was one of the only characters who was able to make me laugh out loud. She definitely helped this episode! Overall, I give this episode a 6 out of ten. Despite its awkward plot and the discomfort i experienced while watching it, the acting was awesome as usual and that alone made me enjoy this.
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody: Not So Suite 16 (2006)
Best Episode!
Maddie and London are both holding Sweet 16 parties, on the same day! London refuses to change the date of her party, but Maddie is confident Zack and Cody will come to hers. Unlike Cody, Zack sticks by Maddie's side.
Troubles arise for Zack, Maddie, and London. Zack fails at finding Maddie the perfect birthday gift. Maddie is forced to have her party at a lame diner called The Goose Lodge, and all her friends' except for Zack, abandon her for London's party. London doesn't have time for fun at her party since she's too busy running back and forth between her divorced parents. When all hope seems to be lost, Maddie finally realizes just how much Zack supported her during her miserable night.
As for London, after being locked out of her own party she decides to go to Maddie's to apologize. The party really got started when the rest of their friends showed up at The Goose Lodge. They forgot about their terrible night once they were together again!
This episode provides plenty of laughs, not to mention outrageous costumes! It also shows a different side of Zack, one that is caring and compassionate. London learns the value of her friendship with Maddie, and Maddie sees what a great person Zack really is. All these reasons make it my favorite episode yet!
Phil of the Future (2004)
I'm really impressed!
sometimes it makes no sense and the graphics aren't great, but for some reason i love this show! I guess its because Phil and Keely have a totally believable "friend-or-more?" relationship. Pim is absolutely hilarious. It has a perfect balance of them using cool future tech and still having time to discover themselves as people. The characters have really developed from the first few episodes. Keely went from being a pop-star wannabe girlie-girl to someone with real goals and ambitions. Phil went from a 'nerd' to a charismatic best friend. On the other hand, i was disappointed they had some stereotypical characters, like the popular girls (who in real life, wouldn't be popular) jocks, geeks, and bullies. Otherwise, awesome acting and a lot of talent from every person. I'm really impressed!
