Gridiron Gang (2006)
7/10
Highly entertaining movie. The formula works
1 September 2006
This isn't one of your overly patriotic movies of how great Americans are. Its all about how a sport such as American football can change people to work together as a team.

This can effectively bring bonding amongst a wide array of demographics and individuals (in this case inner city youth with massive egos).

This movie had both action and drama and the rock really does look like someone these types of kids would listen to. One thing that I really respected was that racism wasn't really an issue here, which is apparent in usually all of these types of movies. It really had to do with the gang mentality and egos that gets into the minds of youths these days and they effectively showed this aspect.

At the end of the day it is a well rounded movie and something I highly recommend people see as a family because it does widen your perception of the issues that face youth most notably as I mentioned the gangs and bad influences that can unfortunately plague societies. It also had an interesting little documentary and epilogue at the rolling of the credits, so no need to leave early ;).

2pac and Growing up in the ghetto....
15 November 2003
This documentary shows everything about 2pac's life, you can really dive into his character and see how complex he is. His accomplishments during a period of 6 years (pretty much) is really inspirational. He isn't a hero, or he at least didnt have enough time to transform into one, but I think the message was quite clear: Give (black) people a chance and they can do great things. That's pretty much what this movie is about and it can be enjoyed on many levels by different races simply because of - struggle.

The Order (2001)
Most fans will agree...VAN DAMME IS BACK!!
4 January 2002
Warning: Spoilers
I have to say I am really getting impressed with Van Damme, and his new movies. The last movie I saw was 'The Replicant', and I was really impressed by the plot, and some of the action sequences.

Van Damme's acting has also dramatically improved. Therefore I was hoping that this movie would be even better, and will show Van Damme's exceptional martial arts "talent", which was missing in almost all his movies, i.e 'Universal Soldier, The Return' (cheap plot,acting,actors,etc..).

But boy!!...this movie really delivered. Van Damme is really back!!, and he has really out done himself. Kicks dont get any straighter than in this movie, and traditional flying kicks are also back (trademark for Van Damme).

He has also included a lot of the old martial arts cast, like the Mongol, and the Spanish 'kicker' in 'The Quest'. Acting was really good by him and the surrounding cast, and the plot is really interesting. I don't want to reveal any details, as it will be a real spoiler for a very good action movie.

All I can say is that it will leave you in suspense, for a good part of the movie. Has some good cultural values (authenticity), and quite an original plot. Actions buffs will really like this, and Van Damme fans (such as myself) will not at all be disappointed. Very sharp, quick, decent, and smart.

A movie that can only be considered as a "Master Piece" by ignorant people...
25 December 2001
In any movie created by the east and shown to the west, where the budget is good and the acting is decent, and they have some form of "martial arts" and "surreal choreography". It is immediately taken in as an amazing movie, and even more so if the movie contains romance, sex etc.

What people do not understand is that this movie is not different to many of the movies created decades ago in the east. It's the same thing with a better budget, better cast, and of course...better computer graphics. Movies like these and the Matrix (horrible acting, horrible movie/choreography) are not impressive, they are not real, and do not contain actors, who are actually dedicated professionals skilled in their martial arts.

What they do contain is, few weeks of training, and some ropes. Therefore anyone who is exceptionally fit, can perform these "martial arts". Hence The true form is lost.

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, had a sentimental story line, basically what all movies of this type of genre have failed in. In terms of Martial Arts...CRITICS PLEASE WAKE UP....movies like these have been made well in the 80's..they just werent showed in the WEST..

Therefore I DISCOURAGE, any and every MARTIAL ARTS fan from this movie. As this movie does not contain any true form of realism, but 2 weeks of training MAX, and good use of ROPES.

Honestly from a point of an avid martial arts fan, this movie is horrible, and should stay as a romantic film, not as a martial arts/action film. All I learned was how ignorant the western media is, and they better get a clue to these movies, before they start commenting.

In essence, movies like these are only imitations that just look pretty in front of the Western Media. Yes, it is probably entertaining, but certainly is not a masterpiece.

SKILL, and amazing choreography are found in movies such as: Fist Of Legend, and Kiss of The DRAGON. Both these movies contains international martial arts champions (i.e JET LI), amazing choreography, acting, and decent/creative plots.

When you watch movies like these, among many Bruce Lee movies, you will understand what real martial arts "FILMS" are about (not real life).

Thanks for reading!
