My kids absolutely loved this movie
20 February 2020
I admit I haven't watched this movie in its entirety, My kids however who are 5 and 7 loved it and watched it multiple times. They kept talking about it and saying what their favorite emojis are. Before watching this movie they didn't know much about Emoji's so actually learned a bit. They even found the poo jokes funny! It just goes to show there is no accounting for taste I guess.

Alice in Wonderland (I) (2010)
5/10
A much more boring version of Alice in Wonderland than Lewis Carols'
28 April 2010
I saw this in 3D recently at the cinema, the 3D was great, all the ingredients were there but the story was lacking. I am not a Lewis Carol purist by any means, but I know the story like just about everyone else. It seems the film makers took random ingredients from the original and mixed them up with other fairy tales in a style that reminds me of the wonderful 10th Kingdom that I saw some years ago. Unfortunately it just doesn't work, everything is out of context, and the story failed to grasp me. The March Hare for example was mad, fine but the character had no purpose, he simply threw things about and gibbered unintelligible phrases. I know when you go to a film and have high expectations it can be disappointing but I had none but was still disappointed. The first 10 minutes of the movie seemed to show promise but once Alice gets to Underland it's all down hill. Definitely not on my recommended list.

Better than I expected
2 August 2009
This movie is quite watchable, certainly not an High budget Superhuman movie like spider-man, but if you can look past this, it contains a relatively interesting plot with acceptable character development. The movie very much reminds me of the 1984 movie Firestarter, replace 'the Shop' with 'divission' and you get the idea. Terms like Pushers, Bleeders, Movers, Sniffers are explained in the introductory narrative but don't worry, these will become obvious later. I particularly liked the cocky teenage Cassie character in the movie that shares the lead role. The entire movie is based in Hong Kong, which as an ex-pat living in Hong Kong added to the attraction a little. My (chinese) wife was unimpressed by references (in Chinese) on walls advertising copy products to make things look authentic. In all a watchable if not outstanding DVD if you enjoy the Firstarter/Heroes/X-Men Superhuman Genre.

Troubles and Strife (1985–1986)

Only memorable for how truly awful it was
10 July 2008
I was riveted to this TV series but for totally the wrong reason. It was so bad. I can't imagine how this ever got to air. Not one moment in the entire series was funny, not even a titter. This should be used as an example of how not to make a TV Sitcom, in the same way as "Jumping the shark" has become an example of its kind. Fortunately exact details of this series are now beginning to dim in the dark corners of my memory. The sheer fact of how hideously awful and unfunny it was remains so i am unable to quote any references. Only the last line of the series is left when the Vicar catches the wedding bouquet to which a character exclaimed "Not more trouble and strife". My thoughts were I really really hope not!

A Prince Among Men (1997–1998)

Awful, truly Awful
10 July 2008
I was just lying on my bed thinking of things to do today and I remembered this Sitcom. I watched several episodes not because it was in the least bit funny, I just could not believe how bad it was! Chris Barrie was truly brilliant in red Dwarf and Brittas, this really must have been the low point of his career, not one scene had the slightest glimmer of humor. This sitcom is best buried forever or used to torture criminals or something. The only TV series I can compare it with was a series called "Trouble and Strife". That is the only other one I can ever think of totally devoid of any humor. That was canned after one series also.

Characters that you don't really care about do very little
25 December 2006
After reading a review by someone comparing this movie to 'Lost in Translation' and at the time of watching the score for this movie was a healthy 6.8, I decided to rent the movie from the local DVD shop. 'Lost in Trnslation' this movie is not. From the over poetic way Steve Martin reads the brief narrative although he plays a conflicting character in the movie, to the lead role who it is rather difficult to empathise with due to her relationship choices. Nothing much actually happens in this movie. In 'Lost in Translation' nothing really happens in a stylish and interesting way. There is extremely little humour and the relationships that develop between the characters you pretty much feel are their own fault. If you are looking for a Romantic comedy to share a quiet Sunday afternoon with your partner then choose from a wealth of others. A score of 6.8 this movie does not deserve.
