Avalon (2001)
A brilliant masterpiece
3 February 2002
I recently saw the UK Premiere of this movie at the London Sci-Fi Festival and I was blown away. It was fantastic. A lonely woman is driven to seeking more danger and greater challenges but looses herself so much in the game that everyone plays, named 'Avalon' that she seems to loose track of herself. A Secret area, 'Special A' is where she goes to seek a man she knows, whose mind was lost in Avalon, leaving his body in the 'real' world, a vegetable. The ending leaves nothing clear, but bring audiences to consider what truly is reality.

The Score (2001)
Not the worst film DeNiro has done
11 December 2001
I was certainly expecting a bit more from this movie. While the acting from all parts was spectacular, the movie itself was predictable and unoriginal. Norton's performance as a handycapped janitor was commendable and Robert Di Niro is as excellent as you would expect from an actor with such a well-known career. The safe-scene was done spectacularly well and the dialog between the characters really worked. You could see that they were itching to take each other on, but prevented by the job they were working on. Di Niro was a convincing thief, and you really felt for him when he wanted to retire. But overall, it didn't require much thought and wouldn't be suitable for a demanding audience.

Shameless rip off
23 October 2001
This movie was a complete rip-off of Hayao Miyazaki's masterpiece, Laputa. I probably would have enjoyed this movie a lot if I didn't keep seeing parts of the Animie throughout the film. Disney doesn't seem to be coming up with original ideas anymore (eg: Tarzan - a cross between jungle book and Lion King). But to give it credit, the animation was good and the characters likeable. There were the odd good jokes in it and some famous voices. If you read this before you go to see it - see if you can spot Leonard Nimroy!

A brilliant story of how friendship can get you through anything
17 July 2001
This is a great film about friendship and sticking together through tough times. It shows how two young girls and their families cope with their differences, how they are brought together and torn apart and how they are changed by the injury of a racing pigeon. But when the girls take it upon themselves to heal the pigeon, its recovery can bring them all hope.

Best film of 2001
15 May 2001
Spectacular! Absolutly brilliant! I haven't seen a movie like this in years and probably won't for a long while. It's incredibly artistic, full of adventure, romance and action. If you're a fan of any kind of movie you should see this. If you haven't seen this...WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR???

I LOVE THIS FILM!!!
15 May 2001
I first saw this film when I was five and I have loved it ever since. It has to be my all time favourite in the world - and I've seen a lot more films than most people so I'm a tough critic! I love the fact that Hayao Miyazaki did not once use computer graphics, but stuck to good old hand drawn animations. You could watch the film with no sound and be astounded by the beauty of it, or listen in awe to the wonderful music. Hayao Miyazaki is the creator of three of my top ten movies.

Very funny
14 May 2001
I saw this recently and thought it was more funny than the poster let off. It follows the stories of a group of people who all live in an apartment building called Hollywood Palms, and the way their lives all inter-mingle. I thought the method of tracking the skunk 'Stinker's' POV through endless ducts was a new idea. It reminded me slightly of the programme 'Friends'. The whole film was nice and light. It wasn't demanding, but it made you laugh.
