Pride (2007)
I wanted to address a few things...SPOILERS
Great Film, first of all! I coach swimming and Ellis is a role model in my world. But I wanted to address a few things another poster said.
One, at the final meet, you will notice that ALL the teams had very small teams. Look at the point accumulation, and that is obvious. Also, back then there were a very limited number of events, with each team only allowed to swim ONE swimmer per event. It is entirely possible for a small team to take the title as that is all that was brought to these meets...A small, select few.
Back in the 70's the sport was not broken up into boys and girls events, not to mention training was the same for both boys and girls back then. Now you will find more emphasis is put on cardio (for endurance) for the girls, and the boys will lift weights for power. Do not get me wrong, BOTH will do cardio and lift, but boys and girls often are taught to emphasis different things these days. Back then, not so. The idea of a girl beating the boys, is certainly not far fetched.
As to the flip turn debacle...after a flip turn you should NOT be disoriented, unless you don't know what you are doing. The lanes were narrower back then as well, it is easy to kick someone IF you are intending to do it.
IF you like swimming, this is a pretty accurate portrayal of what Ellis went through, how he coached his kids and WHY PDR is STILL a powerhouse to this day.
Seven Mummies (2006)
Kind of silly!!!
This wasn't a bad movie, but the end was ridiculous! The end scene with what I assume was the sheriff was unnecessary, and repetitive.
That said this wasn't a bad movie. I am a fan of B horror, and I have certainly seen worse, much worse. But there were a number of inconsistencies, that could have easily been cleared up without adding any extra time to the film; though at one hour and twenty minutes another 15 or 20 minutes to give us some backstory certainly wouldn't have made this film overly long.
MY biggest complaint is what were Billy Wirth and Matt Schulze doing in this film! Both are good actors that weren't even given the chance to rise above the mediocre script.
Hillside Cannibals (2006)
Not TOO bad
This film isn't that bad. Though is could have been better. The acting is weak for a horror movie, half the time people just looked annoyed rather than scared. On the other hand, if you LIKE your movies someone amusing and silly (and there are times when that is exactly what I am looking for) then this movie is for you.
What I did want to comment on was the above poster saying that Craven should sue. IF you would have actually looked at the movie jacket a bit closer you would see that the working title is actually "Hillside Cannibals: The Legend of SAWNEY BEAN. You would also then realize that is exactly who Craven said inspired his movie, "The Hills have Eyes." I don't know...not to be rude, but maybe you should do a bit of research before jumping the gun. The movie takes liberties with the legend of the Bean family, but since there is nothing in the way of hard evidence to corroborate whether or not the Bean family actually existed, it is pretty obvious that both the director of this movie and Craven himself have taken liberties with the retelling of the story.
Hotel Rwanda (2004)
Amazing Movie!!
I can't say enough about this movie.
I would like to say that Don Cheadle is not simply the best African American actor out there, but is one of the best actors out there period.
I would even venture to say he was robbed of the Oscar this year.
His performance was subtle, and yet had so many different layers, it is impossible to describe. What Paul Rusesabagina did was simply amazing, and speaks to what one person can do, how one person can make a true difference in the world. This man and Don Cheadle with his amazing performance, truly touched my heart.
Kudos also go out to Sophie Okonedo as Paul's unwaveringly supportive and loving wife, and the the children in this movie were also wonderful.
This is a movie that speaks to the human spirit and should NOT be missed.
