Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me (1992)
Fire Walk With Me
Depicting the final days of Laura Palmer's life, Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me is a terrifying, dramatically ironic prequel to the Twin Peaks original series.
Definitely David Lynch's darkest film, and only out and out horror film, the mixture of surrealism with the horrid life that Laura already lives; coping with prostitution, abuse from her father, and drug addiction, as well as multiple partners, and a grisly second life that nobody knows about; creates uncomfortable, provocative watch.
When the film was released in 1992, many audiences reacted against the film, which is unsurprising as, like any surrealist film, you must be prepared to 'go with it' in order to enjoy it. If you're not prepared to watch with an open mind, and accept that the images you're about to see are representative of a thought, feeling, event or emotion, then you're going to nit-pick it and say that it is a load of rubbish. However, if you do decide that you are along for the ride, you will not only realise that this is one of the cleverest films ever made, but one of the most sad, lonely and disturbing.
I think in this day and age, especially with constant overly-expositional nonsense coming out more and more, people forget that film is a AUDIO-VISUAL ART FORM that we should view to feel something. It shouldn't be, 'now lets explain everything you just saw', it should be 'work it out for yourself'. And the beauty of it is that it can mean a different thing to each person. It doesn't necessarily mean one thing and that is it.
The thing that Lynch does so well with his work is that he doesn't explain everything in the film, nor does he explain them in interviews. He leaves them to be interpretable for everyone, and with this it is no different.
This is how film should be. Provocative, evocative and representative of ideologies and emotions.
One of the most underrated films; a genuine masterpiece.
WandaVision: All-New Halloween Spooktacular! (2021)
This show is just so great
I really have to applaud Marvel for introducing phase 4 with such a weird and wonderful show.
The story is so entertaining and thrilling
The acting is amazing
However, this episode did feel a bit more childish and steps away from the tense, ominous mood created in the last couple of episodes, and i would've much preferred it to be just as enticing and suspenseful as the story progresses.
WandaVision: On a Very Special Episode... (2021)
WATCH THIS SHOW
The amazing character development from Wanda proceeds in this weird and wonderful episode. We are shown more supernatural elements of Wanda and are rooting for someone who, in my opinion, in portrayed as an antagonist in this show, Wanda.
This episode closely looks at the theme of 'playing God' or controlling life and further shows that nobody should be able to act like God, except God, and even Wanda, who is acting like a puppet-master in this show, understands this.
I love the advertisements that happen in every episode that links back to Wanda's past, in this episode is was about LAGOS which of course links back to the opening scene of 'Civil War'. The slogan acts as a conclusion of the events in the scene of the 3rd Captain America film as well which creates an enticing feeling for us as the audience, as we see this show link back to previous MCU films.
This episode wasn't as good as the previous episode but still a really good, weird and entertaining piece of television
KEEP IT UP.
