Making the Cut (2020– )

Not about fashion at all
15 January 2022
Wanted to rate this a bit higher but I couldn't even finish watching the first episode. Yes, I know comparisons can suck at times but...I read somewhere that PR was for fans of wild competition and MTC for fashion lovers, it's not. I understand that in the real world the designers don't actually make all their garments themselves but here, I couldn't see them doing anything.

The clothes suddenly appeared, the runway shots are odd, you can't see the clothes very well, and the judging process was just...boring. I had to stop right there.

Gave it a second chance watching the second episode but...

It actually took me a while to finish watching the first episode since I stopped it in the middle on my first attempt, The very first minutes had me already rolling my eyes over the social distancing jokes, which seemed too forced to me. The girls talk about not being who they used to be, mentioning the dog was a 'rescue', a comment about pronouns...again, too forced.

Miranda can't control her liquor now and only gets a bit pissed by her son having loud sex next to her, but Charlotte makes a scene because her daughter prefers to wear a different dress, I didn't get that.

A piano recital where Lily is excellent but the other kid can barely hit two notes...ridiculous.

I didn't even mind that Samantha's character wasn't there, but they couldn't just say she was working abroad, no, they had to invent a story where she was being a bad friend, sort of distasteful in my opinion. The dialogue made me think at times it was written for the actual actresses and not the characters.

I'm too curious to know how Carrie will deal with what happened but that doesn't change that I believe they should've left it as it was.

Disheartened

Hadn't seen Emma Watson in a movie before (not a Harry Potter fan), but for some reason, social media had me with the idea she was a good actress. At least here, she wasn´t. I read here on the Trivia section that while shooting Be Our Guest the crew had to make her smile and all: that's a bad actress right there, it's not like they were working with 6 year olds. (My daughter likes to watch the Cinderella live action almost every day, I highly doubt Lily James was actually witnessing a pumpkin turning into a charriot). She had the same face seeing spoons dancing, someone being shot, and when a handsome prince appeared before her.

The whole Belle being an inventor was so irrelevant to the story, and during the dance with the Beast, she was so stiff and it was so badly choreographed, it ruined one of the most beloved Disney scenes.

No chemistry between Beauty and Beast at all, the only moment that made me feel something was when the enchanted objects were becoming just objects. Too bad the main character was not great, the movie itself is enjoyable and the special effects are really good, wish horror movies had this kind of CGI.

Alena (2015)

Incomplete movie

Warning: Spoilers
I suppose the novel doesn't leave as many loose ends as this film. Or it felt that way to me, the characters' individual stories are not developed, you can't really understand why they are that way...so some details come across as unnecessary since they end up not adding anything to the story. Didn't want to mention spoilers but the first time Josefin appears, it's very obvious she's dead. And didn't get the last scene, where Alena flees the party: her girlfriend goes after her one second later but for some reason Alena manages to fight and kill two people before she's reached... Entertaining, maybe, but very forgettable, I'd say.
