Awful attempt to milk the first movie
18 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The plot line made no sense, several attempts to recreate situations from the first movie, the drama between characters was overly dramatic given what the actual situations were... the only good thing about this sequel was that it had Jaqueline from kimmy Schmit! By the end I couldn't care less about any of the characters. It's not that anything in particular was awful, it was just an unnecessary film - they could've done so much more with the switching places idea... this felt lazy and like a prolonged advert for a luxury skiing hotel! Disappointing considering I watched this straight after the first movie.

Devil in Ohio: Rely-Upon (2022)
Season 1, Episode 4

The storyline is engaging but too many flaws to ignore
11 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I'm really captivated by the concept and storyline, starting this morn and on episode 5 already.

My biggest gripe with this episode was that there's so many dumb things the adults are doing.

(Props to all the teen and child characters, they are really good.)

The main things I couldn't ignore:

1- why don't the mum, dad and detective actually share info with each other? Surely you'd tell your wife if someone mysteriously paid for your karaoke session, that's not a normal thing!

2- why do the mum and detective always go dodgy places alone?!

3- if the family installed a ring door bell half these issues would be solved.

It's a shame because the plot is intriguing and some of the performances are really emotional, and the flashbacks work well to build context. But my god those three adults are so difficult to watch.

Moonfall (2022)
3/10
The premise was the only good thing about this film
30 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Loved the premise of the film - the moon is not what we think - but the execution was terrible in every way - the music, the acting, the dialogue, where to begin?!

I am not a movie buff and my partner tells me there are some big name actors in this film - the main and supporting cast were all equally awful in their line delivery and general acting of the character. Felt like a school drama performance rather than actual acting. No passion or emotion or change in tone for any of the main characters besides John Bradley, who did his absolute best considering the people he was working with.

In fairness, its not totally down to the actors - the dialogue was ridiculous, it was stiff, rushed, pretty much telling you the plot without much reaction or discussion or fight for anything. Irrelevent focus on family members of the main characters, poor acting so didnt feel invested in them whatsover.

Constant ill placed music - too dramatic or random for the scene it is in.

I am not a big film person or film critic, and I am fairly generous with ratings, but this is honestly a 3 tops for me - the visuals of the moon centre was pretty cool and i enjoyed the premise.

I would not recommend this film, I would imagine reading a plot summary would be just as informative as watching this film.
