The Big Short (2015)
A movie everyone should be aware of
This is one of the few movies that I finished watching and I had to search up if everything that happened in the movies was real because this was honestly one of the most shocking things I've ever seen. While "Top 10 things that make you say wow!" makes me think "huh, interesting", this movie made me question reality. The fact that all the thing covered in this movie is not basic knowledge is terrible. This is one of the few movies that I think that everyone should watch not because I personally enjoyed it, but because everyone should be aware of what happened in 2008.
Nakitai watashi wa neko o kaburu (2020)
Decent
A Whisker Away was a decent film. I don't think there was anything exceptional about it, but it wasn't bad either. It didn't move me like any other anime films have. Often in the film, I felt that the movie tried to mix the drama and comedy genre, but it often came out quite awkwardly. Throughout the film, the characters often reminded me of the characters from "I Want to Eat your Pancreas", and I remembered how much I enjoyed that film.
Django Unchained (2012)
Tarantino at His Best
Personally, I think out of the 3 alternate history movies Tarantino has made, Django Unchained was the best one. The characters were deep, the dialogue was intriguing and the story was satisfying. In the end it makes you question who the real villain was the whole time. The violence is very Tarantino-like and there is a very good use of blood. Overall, one of the most satisfying and fun Tarantino movies.
Kimi no suizô o tabetai (2018)
Animated Fault in our Stars
As the title may suggest, this movie is very similar to The Fault in our Stars. Maybe it's because of the whole "dating while dying" dynamic, but it had a very similar story. Differently however, while in TFIOS, Hazel was very reluctant to get in a relationship as she was scared to hurt somebody, the main girl in this movie has the opposite mentality. I feel the characters in this movie were very believable and really made you realize how fragile we are. Either way, very solid film.
Palm Springs (2020)
A good time with the boys
I just watched this with my friends. It's a great movie to just let go of all of your struggles. It has a lot of funny moments that actually get you to laugh instead of make you "hmm that's funny" like some movies do. Goes into a bit of philosophy and nihilism which was nice. Overall a good time
Pulp Fiction (1994)
Easy to recommend
Praise for this movie is abundant in media, and rightfully so. Pulp Fiction is one of the most fun and satisfying movies I've ever watched. Being a Tarantino movie, its characters and dialogue are top notch. This is probably the #1 movie I would recommend to someone (if they haven't seen it) as it's very easy to get into and you can just let go of reality and be sucked into the film.
Gisaengchung (2019)
All Time Favorite
As the title suggests, Parasite is my all time favorite film. Bong's original screenplay is one of the freshest and most original ideas I've ever seen/heard of. The idea of a poor family leeching off of a rich family by pretending to be qualified is brilliant. There truly has not been any other film like parasite and I think it should be appreciated as such. The characters and dialogue throughout the film strike as very realistic which is why everything that happens during the flick strikes the viewers very hard. The ending left me in a very depressed state and changed my view of the world a bit. It helped me realize of privilege and how the world just isn't that great. Upon thinking about the film later, I also wondered what the movie would've been like in the Kims' perspective. I believe this movie is one of the greatest ever made, and is an instant classic
The Lighthouse (2019)
Mixed Bag
The Lighthouse had some of the greatest cinematography and acting I've ever seen. Dafoe and Pattinson give outstanding performances and Eggers goes in a direction that not many other directors have. However, the story was a little difficult for me. I understood it and I appreciated it, but I couldn't help but feel uncomfortable and unsatisfied throughout the film. I feel that I can appreciate this film, however if someone were to ask me if I recommend it, I'd have to say no.
The Godfather (1972)
Not a Fan
Just didn't like it that much. Maybe I'll like it more when I'm older
